Jeremiah 11

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh,	1 Verbum, quod factum est ad Ieremiam a Domino dicens:
2 'Hear the terms of this covenant; tel them to the people of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	2 “ Audite verbapacti huius et loquimini ad viros Iudae et habitatores Ierusalem.
3 Tel them, "Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: Cursed be anyone who will not listen to the terms of thiscovenant	3 Et dices adeos: Haec dicit Dominus, Deus Israel: Maledictus vir, qui non audierit verbapacti huius,
4 which I ordained for your ancestors when I brought them out of Egypt, out of that iron-foundry. Listen tomy voice, I told them, carry out al my orders, then you wil be my people and I shal be your God,	4 quod praecepi patribus vestris in die, qua eduxi eos de terraAegypti, de fornace ferrea, dicens: Audite vocem meam et facite omnia, quaepraecipio vobis, et eritis mihi in populum, et ego ero vobis in Deum;
5 so that I may fulfil the oath I swore to your ancestors, that I may give them a country flowing with milkand honey, as is the case today." ' I replied, 'So be it, Yahweh!'	5 utsuscitem iuramentum, quod iuravi patribus vestris, daturum me eis terramfluentem lacte et melle, sicut est dies haec ”. Et respondi et dixi: “ Amen,Domine ”.
6 Then Yahweh said to me, 'Proclaim al these terms in the towns of Judah and in the streets ofJerusalem, saying, "Listen to the terms of this covenant and obey them.	6 Et dixit Dominus ad me: “ Vociferare omnia verba haec in civitatibus Iudaeet in foris Ierusalem dicens: Audite verba pacti huius et facite illa.
7 For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt, I solemnly warned them, and have persistently warnedthem until today, saying: Listen to my voice.	7 Quiacontestans contestatus sum patres vestros in die, qua eduxi eos de terraAegypti, usque ad diem hanc; mane consurgens contestatus sum et dixi: Auditevocem meam.
8 But they did not listen, did not pay attention; instead, each followed his own stubborn and wickedinclinations. And against them, in consequence, I put into action the words of this covenant which I had orderedthem to obey and which they had not obeyed." '	8 Et non audierunt nec inclinaverunt aurem suam, sed abieruntunusquisque in pravitate cordis sui mali; et induxi super eos omnia verba pactihuius, quod praecepi, ut facerent, et non fecerunt ”.
9 Yahweh said to me, 'Plainly there is conspiracy among the people of Judah and the citizens ofJerusalem.	9 Et dixit Dominus ad me: “ Inventa est coniuratio in viris Iudae et inhabitatoribus Ierusalem.
10 They have reverted to the sins of their ancestors who refused to listen to my words: they too arefol owing other gods and serving them. The House of Israel and the House of Judah have broken my covenantwhich I made with their ancestors.	10 Reversi sunt ad iniquitates patrum suorum priorum,qui noluerunt audire verba mea; et hi ergo abierunt post deos alienos, utservirent eis: irritum fecerunt domus Israel et domus Iudae pactum meum, quodpepigi cum patribus eorum.
11 And so, Yahweh says this, "I shal now bring a disaster on them which they cannot escape; they willcal to me for help, but I shal not listen to them.	11 Quam ob rem haec dicit Dominus: Ecce ego inducamsuper eos mala, de quibus exire non poterunt; et clamabunt ad me, et nonexaudiam eos.
12 The towns of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem wil then go and cal for help to the gods to whomthey burn incense, but these will be no help at al to them in their time of distress!	12 Et ibunt civitates Iudae et habitatores Ierusalem et clamabuntad deos, quibus sacrificant, et non salvabunt eos in tempore afflictionis eorum.
13 "For you have as many gods as you have towns, Judah! You have built as many altars to Shame, asmany incense altars to Baal, as Jerusalem has streets!	13 Secundum numerum enim civitatum tuarum erant dii tui, Iuda, et secundumnumerum viarum Ierusalem posuistis aras confusioni, aras ad sacrificandum Baal.
14 "You, for your part, must not intercede for this people, nor raise either plea or prayer on their behalf, for I wil not listen when their distress forces them to cal to me for help."	14 Tu ergo noli orare pro populo hoc et ne assumas pro eis deprecationem etorationem, quia non exaudiam in tempore clamoris eorum ad me, in temporeafflictionis eorum.
15 'What is my beloved doing in my house? She has achieved her wicked plans. Can vows andconsecrated meat turn disaster from you for you to be so happy?	15 Quid est dilectae meae, ut in domo mea perficiat consilia mala? Numquid vota et carnes sanctae auferent a te malitias tuas, in quibus glorieris? ”.
16 "Green olive-tree covered in fine fruit", was Yahweh's name for you. With a shattering noise he hasset fire to it, its branches are broken.'	16 Olivam uberem, pulchram, fructibus speciosam, vocabit Dominus nomen tuum; ad vocem strepitus grandis succendit ignem in ea, et combusti sunt rami eius.
17 And Yahweh Sabaoth, who planted you, has decreed disaster for you because of the evil the Houseof Israel and the House of Judah have done, provoking me by burning incense to Baal.	17 Et Dominus exercituum, qui plantavit te, locutus est super te malum, promalis domus Israel et domus Iudae, quae fecerunt sibi ad irritandum me,sacrificantes Baal.
18 Yahweh informed me and I knew it; you then revealed their scheming to me.	18 Tu autem, Domine, demonstrasti mihi, et cognovi; tunc ostendisti mihi opera eorum.
19 I for my part was like a trustful lamb being led to the slaughterhouse, not knowing the schemes theywere plotting against me, 'Let us destroy the tree in its strength, let us cut him off from the land of the living, sothat his name may no longer be remembered!'	19 Et ego quasi agnus mansuetus, qui portatur ad victimam; et non cognovi quiasuper me cogitaverunt consilia: “ Caedamus lignum in vigore eius et eradamuseum de terra viventium, et nomen eius non memoretur amplius ”.
20 Yahweh Sabaoth, whose judgement is upright, tester of motives and thoughts, I shal see yourvengeance on them, for I have revealed my cause to you.	20 Tu autem, Domine exercituum, qui iudicas iuste et probas renes et corda: videam ultionem tuam ex eis; tibi enim revelavi causam meam.
21 Against the people of Anathoth who are determined to kil me and say to me, 'Do not prophesy in thename of Yahweh or you will die at our hands!'	21 Propterea haec dicit Dominus super viros Anathoth, qui quaerunt animam tuamet dicunt: “ Non prophetabis in nomine Domini et non morieris in manibusnostris ”.
22 Yahweh says this, 'I am about to punish them. Their young people will die by the sword, their sonsand daughters by famine.	22 Propterea haec dicit Dominus exercituum: “ Ecce ego visitabosuper eos: iuvenes morientur in gladio, filii eorum et filiae eorum morientur infame,
23 Not one wil be left when I bring disaster on the people of Anathoth, when the year for punishing themcomes.'	23 et reliquiae non erunt eis; inducam enim malum super viros Anathoth,annum visitationis eorum ”.
