Jeremiah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests living at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.	1 Atti di Geremia, figlio di Chelkia, dei sacerdoti che erano in Anatòt, nel territorio di Beniamino.
2 The word of Yahweh came to him in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenthyear of his reign;	2 La parola del Signore gli fu rivolta ai giorni di Giosia, figlio di Amon, re di Giuda, nell'anno decimoterzo del suo regno,
3 then in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiahson of Josiah, king of Judah, until the deportation of Jerusalem, in the fifth month.	3 e ai giorni di Ioiakìm, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, fino al termine dell'undicesimo anno di Sedecia, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, cioè fino alla deportazione di Gerusalemme che avvenne nel mese quinto.
4 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:	4 La parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini:
5 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you; I appointedyou as prophet to the nations.'	5 "Prima che io ti formassi nel grembo, ti ho conosciuto, e prima che tu uscissi dal seno, ti ho santificato; profeta per le genti ti ho costituito".
6 I then said, 'Ah, ah, ah, Lord Yahweh; you see, I do not know how to speak: I am only a child!'	6 Ma io risposi: "Ah, Signore Dio! Ecco: non so parlare perché sono un ragazzo!".
7 But Yahweh replied, 'Do not say, "I am only a child," for you must go to all to whom I send you and saywhatever I command you.	7 Il Signore mi rispose: "Non dire: "Sono un ragazzo", perché ovunque ti invierò dovrai andare e tutto ciò che ti ordinerò dovrai riferire.
8 Do not be afraid of confronting them, for I am with you to rescue you, Yahweh declares.'	8 Non temere di fronte a loro, perché con te ci sono io a salvarti". Oracolo del Signore!
9 Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me: 'There! I have putmy words into your mouth.	9 Poi il Signore stese la sua mano e toccò la mia bocca; quindi il Signore mi disse: "Ecco: io ho messo le mie parole nella tua bocca.
10 Look, today I have set you over the nations and kingdoms, to uproot and to knock down, to destroy andto overthrow, to build and to plant.'	10 Attento! Oggi stesso ti stabilisco sopra le nazioni e sopra i regni per sradicare e per demolire, per abbattere e per distruggere, per edificare e per piantare".
11 The word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'Jeremiah, what do you see?' I answered, 'I see a branch ofthe Watchful Tree.'	11 La parola del Signore mi fu rivolta in questi termini: "Cosa stai tu vedendo, Geremia?". Risposi: "Un ramo di mandorlo io sto vedendo".
12 Then Yahweh said, 'Wel seen, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'	12 Il Signore mi rispose: "Hai visto bene: infatti io sto vigilando sulla mia parola per eseguirla".
13 A second time the word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'What do you see?' I answered, 'I see acooking pot on the boil, with its mouth tilting from the north.'	13 La parola del Signore mi fu rivolta per la seconda volta in questi termini: "Cosa stai tu vedendo?". Risposi: "Una pentola in effervescenza con la sua faccia dalla parte del settentrione".
14 Then Yahweh said: 'From the north disaster wil come boiling over on all who live in the country,	14 Il Signore mi rispose: "Da nord eromperà la sventura contro tutti gli abitanti del paese.
15 for I am now summoning al the families of the kingdoms of the north, Yahweh declares. They wilcome, and each wil set his throne in front of the gates of Jerusalem, al round, against its wal s and against althe towns of Judah.	15 Infatti, eccomi: sto chiamando tutte le famiglie reali del nord. Oracolo del Signore. Verranno e stabiliranno ognuno il proprio trono all'ingresso delle porte di Gerusalemme e contro le sue mura all'intorno e contro tutte le città di Giuda.
16 I shal pronounce my judgements on them because of al their wickedness, since they have abandonedme, offering incense to other gods and worshipping what their own hands have made.	16 Pronuncerò, allora, i miei giudizi contro di loro, contro tutta la loro malvagità per la quale mi hanno abbandonato e hanno incensato divinità straniere e si sono prostrati all'opera delle proprie mani.
17 'As for you, prepare yourself for action. Stand up and tel them al I command you. Have no fear ofthem and in their presence I wil make you fearless.	17 Quanto a te, cingi i tuoi fianchi: lèvati e riferisci loro tutto ciò che ti ordinerò. Non spaventarti dinanzi a loro, altrimenti ti farò tremare io dinanzi a loro.
18 For look, today I have made you into a fortified city, a pil ar of iron, a wal of bronze to stand against thewhole country: the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests and the people of the country.	18 Io, dunque, ecco: ti rendo oggi come città fortificata, come colonna di ferro e come muraglia di bronzo contro tutto il paese, contro i re di Giuda e i prìncipi suoi, contro i suoi sacerdoti e contro il popolo del paese.
19 They will fight against you but wil not overcome you, for I am with you, Yahweh declares, to rescueyou.'	19 Essi combatteranno contro di te, ma non ti sopraffaranno, perché con te sono io, per salvarti. Oracolo del Signore".
