1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests living at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.	1 Paroles de Jérémie, fils de Hilkiyas. C’était l’un des prêtres habitant à Anatot, dans le territoire de Benjamin.
2 The word of Yahweh came to him in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenthyear of his reign;	2 La parole de Yahvé lui fut adressée dès la treizième année du règne de Josias, fils d’Amon, roi de Juda.
3 then in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiahson of Josiah, king of Judah, until the deportation of Jerusalem, in the fifth month.	3 Cela continua au temps de Joïaqim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, et jusqu’à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, c’est-à-dire jusqu’à la déportation de Jérusalem, au cinquième mois.
4 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:	4 Une parole de Yahvé me fut adressée:
5 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you; I appointedyou as prophet to the nations.'	5 “Avant même de te former dans le ventre de ta mère, je t’ai connu; avant que tu sois sorti de son sein, je t’avais consacré, faisant de toi le prophète des nations.”
6 I then said, 'Ah, ah, ah, Lord Yahweh; you see, I do not know how to speak: I am only a child!'	6 Je dis alors: “Ah, Seigneur Yahvé! Tu vois que je ne sais pas parler, je ne suis qu’un enfant.”
7 But Yahweh replied, 'Do not say, "I am only a child," for you must go to all to whom I send you and saywhatever I command you.	7 Yahvé répondit: “Ne dis pas: Je ne suis qu’un enfant. Tu iras vers tous ceux à qui je t’enverrai, et tu leur diras tout ce que je t’ordonnerai.
8 Do not be afraid of confronting them, for I am with you to rescue you, Yahweh declares.'	8 Ne les crains pas, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer - parole de Yahvé.”
9 Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me: 'There! I have putmy words into your mouth.	9 Alors Yahvé étendit la main et me toucha la bouche, et il dit: “Vois, je place mes paroles dans ta bouche.
10 Look, today I have set you over the nations and kingdoms, to uproot and to knock down, to destroy andto overthrow, to build and to plant.'	10 Aujourd’hui même je te donne autorité sur les nations et les royaumes, pour déraciner et renverser, pour exterminer et détruire, pour bâtir et pour planter.”
11 The word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'Jeremiah, what do you see?' I answered, 'I see a branch ofthe Watchful Tree.'	11 La parole de Dieu me fut adressée en ces termes: “Jérémie, que vois-tu?” Je répondis: “Je vois une branche d’arbre: c’est l’arbre-veilleur.”
12 Then Yahweh said, 'Wel seen, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'	12 Alors Yahvé me dit: “Tu as bien vu, car je reste en éveil et je fais que mes paroles se réalisent.”
13 A second time the word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'What do you see?' I answered, 'I see acooking pot on the boil, with its mouth tilting from the north.'	13 Une seconde fois la parole de Yahvé vint à moi: “Que vois-tu?” Je répondis: “Je vois une marmite qui bouillonne et se déverse: cela vient du nord.”
14 Then Yahweh said: 'From the north disaster wil come boiling over on all who live in the country,	14 Alors Yahvé me dit: “C’est bien du nord que le malheur va se déverser sur tous les habitants du pays.
15 for I am now summoning al the families of the kingdoms of the north, Yahweh declares. They wilcome, and each wil set his throne in front of the gates of Jerusalem, al round, against its wal s and against althe towns of Judah.	15 Oui, j’appelle tous les royaumes du nord - parole de Yahvé. Tous viendront et établiront leurs quartiers à l’entrée des portes de Jérusalem, devant la ceinture de ses remparts, comme devant toutes les villes de Juda.
16 I shal pronounce my judgements on them because of al their wickedness, since they have abandonedme, offering incense to other gods and worshipping what their own hands have made.	16 “Je prononcerai mes jugements contre ce peuple qui m’a abandonné pour faire le mal: ils ont fait fumer l’encens devant d’autres dieux et se sont mis au service de dieux qu’ils ont fabriqués.
17 'As for you, prepare yourself for action. Stand up and tel them al I command you. Have no fear ofthem and in their presence I wil make you fearless.	17 “Aussi vas-tu te mettre à l’œuvre. Tu leur diras tout ce que je te commanderai; ne tremble pas devant eux, sinon je pourrais te faire trembler devant eux.
18 For look, today I have made you into a fortified city, a pil ar of iron, a wal of bronze to stand against thewhole country: the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests and the people of the country.	18 Sache qu’en ce jour je fais de toi une ville fortifiée, une colonne de fer et un rempart de bronze face au pays tout entier: face au roi de Juda, face à ses chefs et ses prêtres, face à tous les propriétaires.
19 They will fight against you but wil not overcome you, for I am with you, Yahweh declares, to rescueyou.'	19 “Ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne pourront rien contre toi, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer - parole de Yahvé.”
