Jeremiah 1

1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests living at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.	1 Parole di Geremia figliuolo di Helcia, uno de' sacerdoti, che abitavano in Anathoth nella terra di Benjamin.
2 The word of Yahweh came to him in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenthyear of his reign;	2 Parole dette a lui dal Signore ne' giorni di Josia figliuolo di Amon, re di Giuda, il decimoterzo anno del regno di lui,
3 then in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiahson of Josiah, king of Judah, until the deportation of Jerusalem, in the fifth month.	3 E dette a lui ne' giorni di Joachim figliuolo di Josia, re di Giuda, sino a tutto l'undecimo anno di Sedecia figliuolo di Josia, re di Giuda, sino alla trasmigrazione di Gerusalemme nel quinto mese.
4 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:	4 E il Signore parlommi, dicendo:
5 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you; I appointedyou as prophet to the nations.'	5 Anzi che ti formassi nel sen della madre, io ti conobbi, ed anzi che tu uscissi dall'utero, io ti santificai, e ti diedi Profeta alle genti.
6 I then said, 'Ah, ah, ah, Lord Yahweh; you see, I do not know how to speak: I am only a child!'	6 Ed io dissi: Ah, ah, ah, Signore Dio, tu vedi, ch'io non so parlare, perchè io sono un fanciullo.
7 But Yahweh replied, 'Do not say, "I am only a child," for you must go to all to whom I send you and saywhatever I command you.	7 E il Signore disse a me: Non dire: Io sono un fanciullo; perocché tu anderai a fare tutte quelle cose, per le quali ti spedirò, e tutto quello, che io t'ingiungerò, tu lo dirai.
8 Do not be afraid of confronting them, for I am with you to rescue you, Yahweh declares.'	8 Non temere la faccia di coloro: conciossiachè son io con te, per trarti d'impaccio, dice il Signore.
9 Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me: 'There! I have putmy words into your mouth.	9 E stese il Signore la mano, e toccò la mia bocca; e dissemi il Signore: Ecco che io pongo nella tua bocca le mie parole:
10 Look, today I have set you over the nations and kingdoms, to uproot and to knock down, to destroy andto overthrow, to build and to plant.'	10 Ecco che io ti do oggi autorità sopra le genti, e sopra i reami, affinchè tu di radichi, e distrugga, e disperga, e dissipi, e edifichi, e pianti.
11 The word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'Jeremiah, what do you see?' I answered, 'I see a branch ofthe Watchful Tree.'	11 E il Signore mi parlò, e disse: Che è quello, che tu vedi, o Geremia? E io dissi: Io vedo una verga vegliante.
12 Then Yahweh said, 'Wel seen, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'	12 E il Signore mi disse: Cosi è come tu hai veduto; perocché io sarò vigilante sopra la mia Parola per adempirla.
13 A second time the word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'What do you see?' I answered, 'I see acooking pot on the boil, with its mouth tilting from the north.'	13 E il Signore parlommi di nuovo, e disse: Che vedi tu? E io dissi: Veggo una caldaia bollente, ed ella viene dalla parte di settentrione.
14 Then Yahweh said: 'From the north disaster wil come boiling over on all who live in the country,	14 E il Signore mi disse: Dal settentrione si spanderanno tutti i mali sopra gli abitatori di questo paese;
15 for I am now summoning al the families of the kingdoms of the north, Yahweh declares. They wilcome, and each wil set his throne in front of the gates of Jerusalem, al round, against its wal s and against althe towns of Judah.	15 Imperocché ecco che io convocherò tutte le famiglie dei regni del settentrione, dice il Signore: e verranno, e porrà ognuno di essi il suo padiglione all'entrar delle porte di Gerusalemme, e sopra le sue mura all'intorno, e in tutte le città di Giuda.
16 I shal pronounce my judgements on them because of al their wickedness, since they have abandonedme, offering incense to other gods and worshipping what their own hands have made.	16 Ed io esporrò a costoro i miei giudizi sopra tutta la malizia di quegli, che hanno abbandonato me, ed han fatte libagioni a' dei stranieri, e hanno adorato l'opera delle lor mani.
17 'As for you, prepare yourself for action. Stand up and tel them al I command you. Have no fear ofthem and in their presence I wil make you fearless.	17 Tu adunque cingi i tuoi fianchi, e sorgi, e di a costoro tutto quello, ch'io ti comando. Non aver paura della loro faccia: imperocché io farò, che tu non abbi paura de' loro sguardi;
18 For look, today I have made you into a fortified city, a pil ar of iron, a wal of bronze to stand against thewhole country: the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests and the people of the country.	18 Imperocché io ti ho fatto oggi come una città forte, e come una colonna di ferro, e un muro di bronzo contro tutto il paese, contro i re di Giuda, e i suoi magnati, e i sacerdoti, e il popolo del paese.
19 They will fight against you but wil not overcome you, for I am with you, Yahweh declares, to rescueyou.'	19 Ed eglino faranno a te guerra, ma non la vinceranno: perocché son io con te, dice il Signore, per tua sicurezza.
