Jeremiah 1

1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests living at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.	1 - Parole di Geremia, figlio di Elcia, dei sacerdoti che furono in Anatot nella terra di Beniamino.
2 The word of Yahweh came to him in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenthyear of his reign;	2 Parola di Dio che gli fu comunicata ai giorni di Josia, figlio di Amon, re di Giuda, l'anno decimoterzo del suo regno;
3 then in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiahson of Josiah, king of Judah, until the deportation of Jerusalem, in the fifth month.	3 e fu, ai giorni di Joachim, figlio di Josia, re di Giuda, fino al termine dell'undecimo anno di Sedecia, figlio di Josia, re di Giuda, fino alla trasmigrazione di Gerusalemme, nel mese quinto.
4 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:	4 E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendo:
5 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you; I appointedyou as prophet to the nations.'	5 «Prima che io ti formassi nel ventre io ti conobbi e avanti che tu uscissi alla luce ti santificai, e ti diedi profeta alle genti».
6 I then said, 'Ah, ah, ah, Lord Yahweh; you see, I do not know how to speak: I am only a child!'	6 Ed io dissi: «Ah, ah, ah, Signore Dio, ecco ch'io non so parlare, perchè sono un giovincello».
7 But Yahweh replied, 'Do not say, "I am only a child," for you must go to all to whom I send you and saywhatever I command you.	7 E il Signore mi disse: «Non dire: - Sono un giovincello - perchè andrai a fare tutto quello per cui ti manderò, e tutto quello che ti ordinerò tu dirai.
8 Do not be afraid of confronting them, for I am with you to rescue you, Yahweh declares.'	8 Non temere dinanzi ad essi, perchè io sono con te, per scamparti», dice il Signore.
9 Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me: 'There! I have putmy words into your mouth.	9 E il Signore stese la sua mano e mi toccò la bocca, e il Signore mi disse: «Ecco che ho messo le mie parole nella tua bocca.
10 Look, today I have set you over the nations and kingdoms, to uproot and to knock down, to destroy andto overthrow, to build and to plant.'	10 Ecco, ti ho stabilito sopra le genti e sopra i regni, per svellere e distruggere e disperdere e dissipare, e per edificare e piantare».
11 The word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'Jeremiah, what do you see?' I answered, 'I see a branch ofthe Watchful Tree.'	11 E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola dicendomi: «Geremia che cosa vedi?». Ed io dissi: «Una verga vigilante io vedo».
12 Then Yahweh said, 'Wel seen, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'	12 E il Signore mi disse: «Hai visto bene, perchè io vigilerò sulla mia parola per metterla in esecuzione».
13 A second time the word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'What do you see?' I answered, 'I see acooking pot on the boil, with its mouth tilting from the north.'	13 E il Signore mi comunicò la sua parola, per la seconda volta, dicendomi: «Che cosa vedi?». E dissi: «Vedo una caldaia bollente, che si affaccia dalla parte di settentrione».
14 Then Yahweh said: 'From the north disaster wil come boiling over on all who live in the country,	14 E il Signore mi disse: «Dal settentrione si riverserà il male sopra tutti gli abitatori della terra!
15 for I am now summoning al the families of the kingdoms of the north, Yahweh declares. They wilcome, and each wil set his throne in front of the gates of Jerusalem, al round, against its wal s and against althe towns of Judah.	15 Perchè ecco che io convocherò tutte le stirpi dei regni del settentrione, dice il Signore, e verranno e ognuna di esse collocherà la sua sede all'ingresso delle porte di Gerusalemme e rimpetto alle sue mura in giro, e di fronte a tutte le città di Giuda.
16 I shal pronounce my judgements on them because of al their wickedness, since they have abandonedme, offering incense to other gods and worshipping what their own hands have made.	16 E pronunzierò il mio giudizio di condanna contro tutta la malvagità di quelli che hanno abbandonato me per fare libazioni agli dèi stranieri e che hanno adorato l'opera delle loro mani.
17 'As for you, prepare yourself for action. Stand up and tel them al I command you. Have no fear ofthem and in their presence I wil make you fearless.	17 Tu dunque accingiti, sorgi e parla a costoro tutto quello che io ti comando. Non temere dinanzi a essi, perchè io non permetterò che dinanzi ad essi tu abbia paura.
18 For look, today I have made you into a fortified city, a pil ar of iron, a wal of bronze to stand against thewhole country: the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests and the people of the country.	18 Giacchè io oggi ti renderò come una città forte e una colonna di ferro e una muraglia di bronzo a tutta la terra e ai re di Giuda e ai suoi principi e ai sacerdoti e al popolo della terra.
19 They will fight against you but wil not overcome you, for I am with you, Yahweh declares, to rescueyou.'	19 Ed essi combatteranno contro di te, ma non la vinceranno, perchè io sono con te, dice il Signore, per liberarti».
