Jeremiah 1

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests living at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.	1 Verba Ieremiae filii Helciae de sacerdotibus, qui fuerunt in Anathoth interra Beniamin.
2 The word of Yahweh came to him in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenthyear of his reign;	2 Quod factum est verbum Domini ad eum in diebus Iosiae filiiAmon regis Iudae, in tertio decimo anno regni eius.
3 then in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiahson of Josiah, king of Judah, until the deportation of Jerusalem, in the fifth month.	3 Et factum est in diebusIoachim filii Iosiae regis Iudae, usque ad consummationem undecimi anni Sedeciaefilii Iosiae regis Iudae, usque ad transmigrationem Ierusalem in mense quinto.
4 The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:	4 Et factum est verbum Domini ad me dicens:
5 'Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you; I appointedyou as prophet to the nations.'	5 “ Priusquam te formarem in utero, novi te et, antequam exires de vulva, sanctificavi te et prophetam gentibus dedi te ”.
6 I then said, 'Ah, ah, ah, Lord Yahweh; you see, I do not know how to speak: I am only a child!'	6 Et dixi: “ Heu, Domine Deus! Ecce nescio loqui, quia puer ego sum ”.
7 But Yahweh replied, 'Do not say, "I am only a child," for you must go to all to whom I send you and saywhatever I command you.	7 Et dixit Dominus ad me: “ Noli dicere: “Puer sum”, quoniam, ad quoscumque mittam te, ibis et universa, quaecumque mandavero tibi, loqueris.
8 Do not be afraid of confronting them, for I am with you to rescue you, Yahweh declares.'	8 Ne timeas a facie eorum, quia tecum ego sum, ut eruam te ”, dicit Dominus.
9 Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me: 'There! I have putmy words into your mouth.	9 Et misit Dominus manum suam et tetigit os meum; et dixit Dominus ad me: “ Ecce dedi verba mea in ore tuo;
10 Look, today I have set you over the nations and kingdoms, to uproot and to knock down, to destroy andto overthrow, to build and to plant.'	10 ecce constitui te hodie super gentes et super regna, ut evellas et destruas et disperdas et dissipes et aedifices et plantes ”.
11 The word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'Jeremiah, what do you see?' I answered, 'I see a branch ofthe Watchful Tree.'	11 Et factum est verbum Domini ad me dicens: “ Quid tu vides, Ieremia? ”. Etdixi: “ Virgam amygdali vigilantis ego video ”.
12 Then Yahweh said, 'Wel seen, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'	12 Et dixit Dominus ad me:“Bene vidisti, quia vigilo ego super verbo meo, ut faciam illud ”.
13 A second time the word of Yahweh came to me, asking, 'What do you see?' I answered, 'I see acooking pot on the boil, with its mouth tilting from the north.'	13 Et factum est verbum Domini secundo ad me dicens: “ Quid tu vides? ”. Etdixi: “ Ollam succensam ego video; et facies eius a facie aquilonis ”.
14 Then Yahweh said: 'From the north disaster wil come boiling over on all who live in the country,	14 Etdixit Dominus ad me: “ Ab aquilone pandetur malum super omnes habitatores terrae;
15 for I am now summoning al the families of the kingdoms of the north, Yahweh declares. They wilcome, and each wil set his throne in front of the gates of Jerusalem, al round, against its wal s and against althe towns of Judah.	15 quia ecce ego convocabo omnia regna aquilonis, ait Dominus, et venient et ponent unusquisque solium suum in introitu portarum Ierusalem et contra omnes muros eius in circuitu et contra universas urbes Iudae;
16 I shal pronounce my judgements on them because of al their wickedness, since they have abandonedme, offering incense to other gods and worshipping what their own hands have made.	16 et loquar iudicia mea cum eis super omnem malitiam eorum, qui dereliquerunt me et incensum obtulerunt diis alienis et adoraverunt opus manuum suarum.
17 'As for you, prepare yourself for action. Stand up and tel them al I command you. Have no fear ofthem and in their presence I wil make you fearless.	17 Tu ergo accinge lumbos tuos et surge et loquere ad eos omnia, quae ego praecipio tibi; ne timeas a facie eorum, alioquin timere te faciam vultum eorum.
18 For look, today I have made you into a fortified city, a pil ar of iron, a wal of bronze to stand against thewhole country: the kings of Judah, its princes, its priests and the people of the country.	18 Ego quippe dedi te hodie in civitatem munitam et in columnam ferream et in murum aereum contra omnem terram regibus Iudae, principibus eius et sacerdotibus et populo terrae;
19 They will fight against you but wil not overcome you, for I am with you, Yahweh declares, to rescueyou.'	19 et bellabunt adversum te et non praevalebunt, quia tecum ego sum, ait Dominus, ut eripiam te ”.
