Isaiah 49

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Coasts and islands, listen to me, pay attention, distant peoples. Yahweh cal ed me when I was in thewomb, before my birth he had pronounced my name.	1 Isole, ascoltatemi, prestate attenzione, o popoli lontani! Dal seno materno il Signore mi ha chiamato, dalle viscere della madre mia ha fatto menzione del mio nome.
2 He made my mouth like a sharp sword, he hid me in the shadow of his hand. He made me into asharpened arrow and concealed me in his quiver.	2 Rese la mia bocca come una spada tagliente, mi nascose sotto l'ombra della sua mano, mi rese una freccia appuntita, mi ripose nella sua faretra.
3 He said to me, 'Israel, you are my servant, through whom I shal manifest my glory.'	3 E mi disse: "Tu sei il mio servo, Israele, per mezzo del quale mostrerò la mia gloria".
4 But I said, 'My toil has been futile, I have exhausted myself for nothing, to no purpose.' Yet al the whilemy cause was with Yahweh and my reward with my God.	4 Io dissi: "Invano mi sono affaticato; per nulla e inutilmente ho esaurito la mia forza. Eppure il mio diritto è presso il Signore, la mia ricompensa è presso il mio Dio".
5 And now Yahweh has spoken, who formed me in the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back tohim and to re-unite Israel to him;-I shal be honoured in Yahweh's eyes, and my God has been my strength.-	5 E ora, dice il Signore che dal seno materno mi ha formato per essere suo servo, per ricondurre a lui Giacobbe e perché Israele gli fosse radunato, -- e fui onorato agli occhi del Signore e il mio Dio fu la mia forza --
6 He said, 'It is not enough for you to be my servant, to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back thesurvivors of Israel; I shal make you a light to the nations so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts ofearth.'	6 e disse: "E' poco che tu sia mio servo per rialzare le tribù di Giacobbe e ricondurre i superstiti d'Israele; perciò ti farò luce delle nazioni, perché la mia salvezza raggiunga l'estremità della terra".
7 Thus says Yahweh, the redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, to the one who is despised, detested by thenation, to the slave of despots: Kings wil stand up when they see, princes wil see and bow low, because ofYahweh who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen you.	7 Così parla il Signore, il redentore di Israele, il suo Santo, a colui la cui persona è disprezzata, all'aborrito dalle nazioni, al servo dei potenti: "I re vedranno e si alzeranno, i prìncipi si prostreranno a causa del Signore, che è fedele, del Santo d'Israele, che ti ha scelto".
8 Thus says Yahweh: At the time of my favour I have answered you, on the day of salvation I havehelped you. I have formed you and have appointed you to be the covenant for a people, to restore the land, toreturn ravaged properties,	8 Così parla il Signore: "Nel tempo della benevolenza ti ho esaudito e nel giorno della salvezza ti ho prestato soccorso. Ti ho formato e ti ho fatto alleanza per il popolo, per rialzare il paese e ricuperare eredità devastate,
9 to say to prisoners, 'Come out,' to those who are in darkness, 'Show yourselves.' Along the roadwaythey will graze, and any bare height wil be their pasture.	9 per dire ai carcerati: "Uscite", e a quanti si trovano nelle tenebre: "Venite fuori". Pascoleranno su tutte le vie e su tutti i colli brulli avranno i loro pascoli.
10 They will never hunger or thirst, scorching wind and sun will never plague them; for he who pitiesthem wil lead them, wil guide them to springs of water.	10 Non avranno né fame né sete, non li colpiranno né l'arsura né il sole, poiché colui che ha pietà di loro li guiderà e li condurrà alle sorgenti di acque.
11 I shal turn all my mountains into a road and my highways wil be raised aloft.	11 Trasformerò tutti i monti in strade e i miei sentieri saranno elevati.
12 Look! Here they come from far away, look, these from the north and the west, those from the land ofSinim.	12 Ecco, questi vengono da lontano, ecco, quelli dal settentrione e dall'occidente, e quelli dalla terra di Assuan".
13 Shout for joy, you heavens; earth, exult! Mountains, break into joyful cries! For Yahweh has consoledhis people, is taking pity on his afflicted ones.	13 Giubilate, o cieli, esulta, o terra, tripudiate di gioia, o monti! Perché il Signore consola il suo popolo e ha compassione dei suoi afflitti.
14 Zion was saying, 'Yahweh has abandoned me, the Lord has forgotten me.'	14 Sion diceva: "Il Signore mi ha abbandonato, il Signore mi ha dimenticato".
15 Can a woman forget her baby at the breast, feel no pity for the child she has borne? Even if thesewere to forget, I shal not forget you.	15 "Forse che la donna si dimentica del suo lattante, cessa dall'aver compassione del figlio delle sue viscere? Anche se esse si dimenticassero, io non ti dimenticherò.
16 Look, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands, your ramparts are ever before me.	16 Ecco, ti ho descritta sulle palme delle mie mani, le tue mura sono sempre al mio cospetto.
17 Your rebuilders are hurrying, your destroyers and despoilers wil soon go away.	17 I tuoi ricostruttori si affrettano, i tuoi demolitori e devastatori se ne vanno".
18 Raise your eyes and look around you: all are assembling, coming to you. By my life, declaresYahweh, you will put them al on like jewels, like a bride, you wil fasten them on.	18 Volgi intorno i tuoi occhi e guarda: tutti si radunano, vengono da te. Come io vivo, oracolo del Signore, essi sono tutti come un ornamento di cui ti rivesti, essi ti orneranno come una sposa!
19 For your desolate places and your ruins and your devastated country from now on wil be too crampedfor your inhabitants, and your devourers wil be far away.	19 Poiché le tue rovine, le tue desolazioni, il tuo paese distrutto, saranno ora troppo ristretti per gli abitanti, mentre i tuoi divoratori si allontaneranno.
20 Once more they will say in your hearing, the children of whom you were bereft, 'The place is toocramped for me, make room for me to live.'	20 Ancora ti diranno alle orecchie i figli, di cui fosti privata: "Lo spazio è troppo angusto per me, fammi posto, perché possa abitare!".
21 Then you wil think to yourself, 'Who has borne me these? I was bereft and barren, exiled, turned outof my home; who has reared these? I was left all alone, so where have these come from?'	21 Tu dirai allora nel tuo cuore: "Chi mi generò costoro? Io ero priva di figli e sterile, questi chi li ha allevati? Ecco, io ero rimasta sola, e questi dove erano?".
22 Thus says Lord Yahweh: Look, I am beckoning to the nations and hoisting a signal to the peoples:they will bring your sons in their arms and your daughters will be carried on their shoulders.	22 Così parla il Signore Dio: "Ecco, alzerò la mia mano verso le nazioni, drizzerò il mio stendardo verso i popoli e riporteranno i miei figli nel loro manto e le tue figlie saranno portate sulle spalle.
23 Kings will be your foster-fathers and their princesses, your foster-mothers. They will fal prostratebefore you, faces to the ground, and lick the dust at your feet. And you wil know that I am Yahweh; those whohope in me wil not be disappointed.	23 I re saranno i tuoi padri e le loro principesse tue nutrici. Con la faccia a terra essi si prosterneranno davanti a te e lambiranno la polvere dei tuoi piedi; allora saprai che io sono il Signore e che non saranno confusi quelli che sperano in me.
24 Can the body be snatched from the warrior, can the tyrant's captive be set free?	24 Si strappa forse la preda all'eroe? Il prigioniero del tiranno viene forse liberato?".
25 But thus says Yahweh: The warrior's captive wil indeed be snatched away and the tyrant's booty willindeed be set free; I myself shall fight those who fight you and I myself shal save your children.	25 Sì, così parla il Signore: "Anche il prigioniero dell'eroe verrà strappato e la preda del tiranno sarà liberata. Io stesso farò querela ai tuoi accusatori, io stesso salverò i tuoi figli.
26 I shal make your oppressors eat their own flesh, they wil be as drunk on their own blood as on newwine. And al humanity wil know that I am Yahweh, your Saviour, your redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.	26 Ai tuoi oppressori farò divorare le loro carni, si inebrieranno del loro sangue come del mosto. Allora ogni uomo saprà che io sono il Signore, tuo salvatore, il tuo redentore, il forte di Giacobbe".
