Isaiah 49

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Coasts and islands, listen to me, pay attention, distant peoples. Yahweh cal ed me when I was in thewomb, before my birth he had pronounced my name.	1 ¡Oídme, islas, atended, pueblos lejanos! Yahveh desde el seno materno me llamó; desde las entrañas de mi madre recordó mi nombre.
2 He made my mouth like a sharp sword, he hid me in the shadow of his hand. He made me into asharpened arrow and concealed me in his quiver.	2 Hizo mi boca como espada afilada, en la sombra de su mano me escondió; hízome como saeta aguda, en su carcaj me guardó.
3 He said to me, 'Israel, you are my servant, through whom I shal manifest my glory.'	3 Me dijo: «Tú eres mi siervo (Israel), en quien me gloriaré».
4 But I said, 'My toil has been futile, I have exhausted myself for nothing, to no purpose.' Yet al the whilemy cause was with Yahweh and my reward with my God.	4 Pues yo decía: «Por poco me he fatigado, en vano e inútilmente mi vigor he gastado. ¿De veras que Yahveh se ocupa de mi causa, y mi Dios de mi trabajo?»
5 And now Yahweh has spoken, who formed me in the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back tohim and to re-unite Israel to him;-I shal be honoured in Yahweh's eyes, and my God has been my strength.-	5 Ahora, pues, dice Yahveh, el que me plasmó desde el seno materno para siervo suyo, para hacer que Jacob vuelva a él, y que Israel se le una. Mas yo era glorificado a los ojos de Yahveh, mi Dios era mi fuerza.
6 He said, 'It is not enough for you to be my servant, to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back thesurvivors of Israel; I shal make you a light to the nations so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts ofearth.'	6 «Poco es que seas mi siervo, en orden a levantar las tribus de Jacob, y de hacer volver los preservados de Israel. Te voy a poner por luz de las gentes, para que mi salvación alcance hasta los confines de la tierra».
7 Thus says Yahweh, the redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, to the one who is despised, detested by thenation, to the slave of despots: Kings wil stand up when they see, princes wil see and bow low, because ofYahweh who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen you.	7 Así dice Yahveh, el que rescata a Israel, el Santo suyo, a aquel cuya vida es despreciada, y es abominado de las gentes, al esclavo de los dominadores: Veránlo reyes y se pondrán en pie, príncipes y se postrarán por respeto a Yahveh, que es leal, al Santo de Israel, que te ha elegido.
8 Thus says Yahweh: At the time of my favour I have answered you, on the day of salvation I havehelped you. I have formed you and have appointed you to be the covenant for a people, to restore the land, toreturn ravaged properties,	8 Así dice Yahveh: En tiempo favorable te escucharé, y en día nefasto te asistiré. Yo te formé y te he destinado a ser alianza del pueblo, para levantar la tierra, para repartir las heredades desoladas,
9 to say to prisoners, 'Come out,' to those who are in darkness, 'Show yourselves.' Along the roadwaythey will graze, and any bare height wil be their pasture.	9 para decir a los presos: «Salid», y a los que están en tinieblas: «Mostraos». Por los caminos pacerán y en todos los calveros tendrán pasto.
10 They will never hunger or thirst, scorching wind and sun will never plague them; for he who pitiesthem wil lead them, wil guide them to springs of water.	10 No tendrán hambre ni sed, ni les dará el bochorno ni el sol, pues el que tiene piedad de ellos los conducirá, y a manantiales de agua los guiará.
11 I shal turn all my mountains into a road and my highways wil be raised aloft.	11 Convertiré todos mis montes en caminos, y mis calzadas serán levantadas.
12 Look! Here they come from far away, look, these from the north and the west, those from the land ofSinim.	12 Mira: Estos vienen de lejos, esos otros del norte y del oeste, y aquéllos de la tierra de Sinim.
13 Shout for joy, you heavens; earth, exult! Mountains, break into joyful cries! For Yahweh has consoledhis people, is taking pity on his afflicted ones.	13 ¡Aclamad, cielos, y exulta, tierra! Prorrumpan los montes en gritos de alegría, pues Yahveh ha consolado a su pueblo, y de sus pobres se ha compadecido.
14 Zion was saying, 'Yahweh has abandoned me, the Lord has forgotten me.'	14 Pero dice Sión: «Yahveh me ha abandonado, el Señor me ha olvidado».
15 Can a woman forget her baby at the breast, feel no pity for the child she has borne? Even if thesewere to forget, I shal not forget you.	15 - ¿Acaso olvida una mujer a su niño de pecho, sin compadecerse del hijo de sus entrañas? Pues aunque ésas llegasen a olvidar, yo no te olvido.
16 Look, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands, your ramparts are ever before me.	16 Míralo, en las palmas de mis manos te tengo tatuada, tus muros están ante mí perpetuamente.
17 Your rebuilders are hurrying, your destroyers and despoilers wil soon go away.	17 Apresúrense los que te reedifican, y salgan de ti los que te arruinaron y demolieron.
18 Raise your eyes and look around you: all are assembling, coming to you. By my life, declaresYahweh, you will put them al on like jewels, like a bride, you wil fasten them on.	18 Alza en torno los ojos y mira: todos ellos se han reunido y han venido a ti. ¡Por mi vida! - oráculo de Yahveh - que con todos ellos como con velo nupcial te vestirás, y te ceñirás con ellos como una novia.
19 For your desolate places and your ruins and your devastated country from now on wil be too crampedfor your inhabitants, and your devourers wil be far away.	19 Porque tus ruinas y desolaciones y tu tierra arrasada van a ser ahora demasiado estrechas para tanto morador, y se habrán alejado tus devoradores.
20 Once more they will say in your hearing, the children of whom you were bereft, 'The place is toocramped for me, make room for me to live.'	20 Todavía te dirán al oído los hijos de que fuiste privada: «El lugar es estrecho para mí, Cédeme sitio para alojarme».
21 Then you wil think to yourself, 'Who has borne me these? I was bereft and barren, exiled, turned outof my home; who has reared these? I was left all alone, so where have these come from?'	21 Y dirás para ti misma: «¿Quién me ha dado a luz éstos? Pues yo había quedado sin hijos y estéril, desterrada y aparte, y a éstos ¿quién los crió? He aquí que yo había quedado sola, pues éstos ¿dónde estaban?»
22 Thus says Lord Yahweh: Look, I am beckoning to the nations and hoisting a signal to the peoples:they will bring your sons in their arms and your daughters will be carried on their shoulders.	22 Así dice el Señor Yahveh: He aquí que yo voy a alzar hacia las gentes de mi mano, y hacia los pueblos voy a levantar mi bandera; traerán a tus hijos en brazos, y tus hijas serán llevadas a hombros.
23 Kings will be your foster-fathers and their princesses, your foster-mothers. They will fal prostratebefore you, faces to the ground, and lick the dust at your feet. And you wil know that I am Yahweh; those whohope in me wil not be disappointed.	23 Reyes serán tus tutores, y sus princesas, nodrizas tuyas. Rostro en tierra se postrarán ante ti, y el polvo de tus pies lamerán. Y sabrás que yo soy Yahveh; no se avergonzarán los que en mí esperan.
24 Can the body be snatched from the warrior, can the tyrant's captive be set free?	24 ¿Se arrebata al valiente la presa, o se escapa el prisionero del guerrero?
25 But thus says Yahweh: The warrior's captive wil indeed be snatched away and the tyrant's booty willindeed be set free; I myself shall fight those who fight you and I myself shal save your children.	25 Pues así dice Yahveh: Sí, al valiente se le quitará el prisionero, y la presa del guerrero se le escapará; con tus litigantes yo litigaré, y a tus hijos yo salvaré.
26 I shal make your oppressors eat their own flesh, they wil be as drunk on their own blood as on newwine. And al humanity wil know that I am Yahweh, your Saviour, your redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.	26 Haré comer a tus opresores su propia carne, como con vino nuevo, con su sangre se embriagarán. Y sabrá todo el mundo que yo, Yahveh, soy el que te salva, y el que te rescata, el Fuerte de Jacob.
