1 Woe, Ariel, Ariel, city where David encamped. Let year after year pass, let the feasts make their fulround,	1 Guai ad Ariel, ad Ariel città, che fu espugnata da Davidde: un anno si aggiunga ad un anno: le solennità saranno finite.
2 then I shall inflict trouble on Ariel, and there wil be sighing and sobbing, and I shal make it truly Ariel.	2 Ed io circonderò Ariel d'assedio, ed ella sarà in duolo, ed in afflizione, e per me sarà come Ariel.
3 I shal encamp all round you, I shall lay siege to you and mount siege-works against you.	3 E te cingerò tutt'all'intorno quasi di corona, e alzerò terra contro di te, e fabbricherò dei fortini per assediarti.
4 You will be laid low, wil speak from the underworld, your words wil rise like a murmur from the dust.Your voice from the earth wil be like a ghost's, it wil whisper as though coming from the dust.	4 Tu sarai umiliata, da terra aprirai tua bocca, e dalla polvere si faran sentire le tue parole: e dalla terra scapperà fuor la tua voce come di pitonessa, e dalla polvere la fioca tua voce.
5 The horde of your enemies will be like fine dust, the horde of the warriors like flying chaff. Andsuddenly, in an instant,	5 E la moltitudine di quo', che ti sbatteranno sarà come minuta polve: e la moltitudine di que', che ti han soggiogata come svolazzante favilla:
6 you wil be visited by Yahweh Sabaoth with thunder, earthquake, mighty din, hurricane, tempest, flameof devouring fire.	6 E sarà cosa repentina, e di un momento. Il Signore degli eserciti la visiterà in mezzo a' tuoni, e a' terremoti, e romorio grande di turbini, e di tempesta, e di fiamma di fuoco divoratore.
7 It wil be like a dream, like a vision at night: the horde of al the nations at war with Ariel, al thosefighting, besieging and troubling it.	7 E la moltitudine di tutte quelle genti, che han combattuto contro Ariel, e tutti i soldati, che la hanno assediata, e la hanno vinta, saran come un sogno, e visione notturna.
8 It wil be like the dream of a hungry man: he eats, then wakes up with an empty bel y; or like the dreamof a thirsty man: he drinks, then wakes up exhausted with a parched throat. So wil it be with the horde of all thenations making war on Mount Zion.	8 E come uno, che ha fame, si sogna di mangiare, e svegliato che è, si sente vuoto, e come uno, che ha sete si sogna di bere, e svegliato che è il meschino, tuttora ha sete, e trafela; cosi avverrà a tutte quelle genti, che han preso a combattere contro il monte di Sion.
9 Be stupefied and stunned, go blind, unseeing, drunk but not on wine, staggering but not through liquor.	9 Restate stupidi, e fuori di voi, ondeggiate, e barcollate, siate ubriachi, ma non di vino: traballate, ma non per ebbrezza;
10 For Yahweh has infused you with a spirit of lethargy, he has closed your eyes (the prophets), he hasveiled your heads (the seers).	10 Perocché il Signore ha mesciuto a voi lo spirito di sonnolenza, e chiuderà gli occhi vostri, e velerà i profeti, i principi vostri, che veggono delle visioni.
11 For to you every vision has become like the words of a sealed book. You give it to someone able toread and say, 'Read that.' He replies, 'I cannot, because it is sealed.'	11 E la visione di tutti questi sarà per voi come parola di libro sigillato, il quale ove diasi a uno, che sa di lettera, e se gli dica: Leggilo; egli risponderà: Non posso, perche è sigillato.
12 You then give the book to someone who cannot read, and say, 'Read that.' He replies, 'I cannot read.'	12 E se sarà dato ad uno, che non sa leggere, e se gli dica: Leggilo; risponderà: Non so leggere.
13 The Lord then said: Because this people approaches me only in words, honours me only with lip-service while their hearts are far from me, and reverence for me, as far as they are concerned, is nothing buthuman commandment, a lesson memorised,	13 E il Signore ha detto: Perchè questo popolo colla bocca si appressa, e colle sue labbra mi onora, ma il cuor di lui è lungi da me, e a me rendon culto secondo i riti, e i documenti degli uomini;
14 very well, I shal have to go on astounding this people with prodigies and wonders: for the wisdom ofits wise men is doomed, the understanding of any who understand will vanish.	14 Per questo, ecco, che io novellamente farò in questo popolo cosa mirabile, prodigio grande, e stupendo; imperocché perirà la saggezza de' savj, e il sapere de' suoi prudenti svanirà.
15 Woe to those who burrow down to conceal their plans from Yahweh, who scheme in the dark and say,'Who can see us? Who knows who we are?'	15 Guai a voi, che vi rintanate nel vostro cuore, per celare al Signore i vostri disegni: costoro fanno i fatti loro nelle tenebre, e dicono: Chi ci vede, e chi ci scuopre?
16 How perverse you are! Is the potter no better than the clay? Something that was made, can it say ofits maker, 'He did not make me'? Or a pot say of the potter, 'He does not know his job'?	16 Perversa immaginazione, che è questa vostra! come se la terra impastata si inalberasse contro il vasaio, e il vaso dicesse a lui, che formollo: Tu non m'hai fatto: e l'opera a colui, che la fece: Tu non hai intelletto:
17 Is it not true that in a very short time the Lebanon wil become productive ground, so productive youmight take it for a forest?	17 Non è egli vero, che tra poco, ed in breve il Libano diventerà il Carmelo, e il Carmelo diventerà un bosco?
18 That day the deaf wil hear the words of the book and, delivered from shadow and darkness, the eyesof the blind wil see.	18 E udiranno in quel dì i sordi le parole del libro, e dalle tenebre, e dalla caligine riavranno la luce gli occhi de' ciechi.
19 The lowly wil find ever more joy in Yahweh and the poorest of people wil delight in the Holy One ofIsrael;	19 E i mansueti si rallegreranno ogni dì più nel Signore, e i poveri esulteranno nel Santo di Israele;
20 for the tyrant will be no more, the scoffer has vanished and al those on the look-out for evil have beendestroyed:	20 Imperocché il soperchievole è abbattuto, lo schernitore è consunto, e sono sterminati tutti coloro, che vegliavano per mal fare:
21 those who incriminate others by their words, those who lay traps for the arbitrator at the gate andgroundlessly deprive the upright of fair judgement.	21 Quelli, che colla parola inducevano gli uomini a peccare, e supplantavano chi alla porta li riprendeva, e senza ragione si sono allontanati dal giusto.
22 That is why Yahweh, God of the House of Jacob, Abraham's redeemer, says this, 'No longer shallJacob be disappointed, no more shal his face grow pale,	22 Per questo il Signore, che riscattò Abramo, alla casa di Giacobbe dice questa parola: Non adesso sarà confuso Giacobbe, e non arrossirà adesso il volto di lui;
23 for when he sees his children, my creatures, home again with him, he will acknowledge my name asholy, he wil acknowledge the Holy One of Jacob to be holy and wil hold the God of Israel in awe.	23 Ma allorché vedrà i suoi figliuoli, opera delle mie mani, che glorificheranno il nome mio in mezzo ad essi, e glorificheranno il Santo di Giacobbe; e celebreranno il Dio d'Israele:
24 Erring spirits wil learn to understand and murmurers accept instruction.'	24 E quelli, de' quali spirito vivea nell'errore, avranno scienza, e quelli, che mormoravano, appareranno la legge.
