Isaiah 29

NEW JERUSALEM	LXX
1 Woe, Ariel, Ariel, city where David encamped. Let year after year pass, let the feasts make their fulround,	1 ουαι πολις αριηλ ην δαυιδ επολεμησεν συναγαγετε γενηματα ενιαυτον επ' ενιαυτον φαγεσθε γαρ συν μωαβ
2 then I shall inflict trouble on Ariel, and there wil be sighing and sobbing, and I shal make it truly Ariel.	2 εκθλιψω γαρ αριηλ και εσται αυτης η ισχυς και το πλουτος εμοι
3 I shal encamp all round you, I shall lay siege to you and mount siege-works against you.	3 και κυκλωσω ως δαυιδ επι σε και βαλω περι σε χαρακα και θησω περι σε πυργους
4 You will be laid low, wil speak from the underworld, your words wil rise like a murmur from the dust.Your voice from the earth wil be like a ghost's, it wil whisper as though coming from the dust.	4 και ταπεινωθησονται οι λογοι σου εις την γην και εις την γην οι λογοι σου δυσονται και εσται ως οι φωνουντες εκ της γης η φωνη σου και προς το εδαφος η φωνη σου ασθενησει
5 The horde of your enemies will be like fine dust, the horde of the warriors like flying chaff. Andsuddenly, in an instant,	5 και εσται ως κονιορτος απο τροχου ο πλουτος των ασεβων και ως χνους φερομενος και εσται ως στιγμη παραχρημα
6 you wil be visited by Yahweh Sabaoth with thunder, earthquake, mighty din, hurricane, tempest, flameof devouring fire.	6 παρα κυριου σαβαωθ επισκοπη γαρ εσται μετα βροντης και σεισμου και φωνης μεγαλης καταιγις φερομενη και φλοξ πυρος κατεσθιουσα
7 It wil be like a dream, like a vision at night: the horde of al the nations at war with Ariel, al thosefighting, besieging and troubling it.	7 και εσται ως ο ενυπνιαζομενος εν υπνω ο πλουτος των εθνων παντων οσοι επεστρατευσαν επι αριηλ και παντες οι στρατευσαμενοι επι ιερουσαλημ και παντες οι συνηγμενοι επ' αυτην και θλιβοντες αυτην
8 It wil be like the dream of a hungry man: he eats, then wakes up with an empty bel y; or like the dreamof a thirsty man: he drinks, then wakes up exhausted with a parched throat. So wil it be with the horde of all thenations making war on Mount Zion.	8 και εσονται ως οι εν υπνω πινοντες και εσθοντες και εξανασταντων ματαιον αυτων το ενυπνιον και ον τροπον ενυπνιαζεται ο διψων ως πινων και εξαναστας ετι διψα η δε ψυχη αυτου εις κενον ηλπισεν ουτως εσται ο πλουτος παντων των εθνων οσοι επεστρατευσαν επι το ορος σιων
9 Be stupefied and stunned, go blind, unseeing, drunk but not on wine, staggering but not through liquor.	9 εκλυθητε και εκστητε και κραιπαλησατε ουκ απο σικερα ουδε απο οινου
10 For Yahweh has infused you with a spirit of lethargy, he has closed your eyes (the prophets), he hasveiled your heads (the seers).	10 οτι πεποτικεν υμας κυριος πνευματι κατανυξεως και καμμυσει τους οφθαλμους αυτων και των προφητων αυτων και των αρχοντων αυτων οι ορωντες τα κρυπτα
11 For to you every vision has become like the words of a sealed book. You give it to someone able toread and say, 'Read that.' He replies, 'I cannot, because it is sealed.'	11 και εσονται υμιν παντα τα ρηματα ταυτα ως οι λογοι του βιβλιου του εσφραγισμενου τουτου ο εαν δωσιν αυτο ανθρωπω επισταμενω γραμματα λεγοντες αναγνωθι ταυτα και ερει ου δυναμαι αναγνωναι εσφραγισται γαρ
12 You then give the book to someone who cannot read, and say, 'Read that.' He replies, 'I cannot read.'	12 και δοθησεται το βιβλιον τουτο εις χειρας ανθρωπου μη επισταμενου γραμματα και ερει αυτω αναγνωθι τουτο και ερει ουκ επισταμαι γραμματα
13 The Lord then said: Because this people approaches me only in words, honours me only with lip-service while their hearts are far from me, and reverence for me, as far as they are concerned, is nothing buthuman commandment, a lesson memorised,	13 και ειπεν κυριος εγγιζει μοι ο λαος ουτος τοις χειλεσιν αυτων τιμωσιν με η δε καρδια αυτων πορρω απεχει απ' εμου ματην δε σεβονται με διδασκοντες ενταλματα ανθρωπων και διδασκαλιας
14 very well, I shal have to go on astounding this people with prodigies and wonders: for the wisdom ofits wise men is doomed, the understanding of any who understand will vanish.	14 δια τουτο ιδου εγω προσθησω του μεταθειναι τον λαον τουτον και μεταθησω αυτους και απολω την σοφιαν των σοφων και την συνεσιν των συνετων κρυψω
15 Woe to those who burrow down to conceal their plans from Yahweh, who scheme in the dark and say,'Who can see us? Who knows who we are?'	15 ουαι οι βαθεως βουλην ποιουντες και ου δια κυριου ουαι οι εν κρυφη βουλην ποιουντες και εσται εν σκοτει τα εργα αυτων και ερουσιν τις ημας εωρακεν και τις ημας γνωσεται η α ημεις ποιουμεν
16 How perverse you are! Is the potter no better than the clay? Something that was made, can it say ofits maker, 'He did not make me'? Or a pot say of the potter, 'He does not know his job'?	16 ουχ ως ο πηλος του κεραμεως λογισθησεσθε μη ερει το πλασμα τω πλασαντι ου συ με επλασας η το ποιημα τω ποιησαντι ου συνετως με εποιησας
17 Is it not true that in a very short time the Lebanon wil become productive ground, so productive youmight take it for a forest?	17 ουκετι μικρον και μετατεθησεται ο λιβανος ως το ορος το χερμελ και το ορος το χερμελ εις δρυμον λογισθησεται
18 That day the deaf wil hear the words of the book and, delivered from shadow and darkness, the eyesof the blind wil see.	18 και ακουσονται εν τη ημερα εκεινη κωφοι λογους βιβλιου και οι εν τω σκοτει και οι εν τη ομιχλη οφθαλμοι τυφλων βλεψονται
19 The lowly wil find ever more joy in Yahweh and the poorest of people wil delight in the Holy One ofIsrael;	19 και αγαλλιασονται πτωχοι δια κυριον εν ευφροσυνη και οι απηλπισμενοι των ανθρωπων εμπλησθησονται ευφροσυνης
20 for the tyrant will be no more, the scoffer has vanished and al those on the look-out for evil have beendestroyed:	20 εξελιπεν ανομος και απωλετο υπερηφανος και εξωλεθρευθησαν οι ανομουντες επι κακια
21 those who incriminate others by their words, those who lay traps for the arbitrator at the gate andgroundlessly deprive the upright of fair judgement.	21 και οι ποιουντες αμαρτειν ανθρωπους εν λογω παντας δε τους ελεγχοντας εν πυλαις προσκομμα θησουσιν και επλαγιασαν εν αδικοις δικαιον
22 That is why Yahweh, God of the House of Jacob, Abraham's redeemer, says this, 'No longer shallJacob be disappointed, no more shal his face grow pale,	22 δια τουτο ταδε λεγει κυριος επι τον οικον ιακωβ ον αφωρισεν εξ αβρααμ ου νυν αισχυνθησεται ιακωβ ουδε νυν το προσωπον μεταβαλει ισραηλ
23 for when he sees his children, my creatures, home again with him, he will acknowledge my name asholy, he wil acknowledge the Holy One of Jacob to be holy and wil hold the God of Israel in awe.	23 αλλ' οταν ιδωσιν τα τεκνα αυτων τα εργα μου δι' εμε αγιασουσιν το ονομα μου και αγιασουσιν τον αγιον ιακωβ και τον θεον του ισραηλ φοβηθησονται
24 Erring spirits wil learn to understand and murmurers accept instruction.'	24 και γνωσονται οι τω πνευματι πλανωμενοι συνεσιν οι δε γογγυζοντες μαθησονται υπακουειν και αι γλωσσαι αι ψελλιζουσαι μαθησονται λαλειν ειρηνην
