Sirach 51

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 I shal give thanks to you, Lord and King, and praise you, God my Saviour, I give thanks to your name;	1 Ti loderò, o Signore e re, e ti canterò, o mio salvatore, loderò il tuo nome,
2 for you have been my guard and support and redeemed my body from destruction, from the snare ofthe lying tongue, from lips that fabricate falsehood; in the presence of my assailants, you were on my side; youhave been my support, you have redeemed me,	2 perché mi sei stato riparo e aiuto, salvando il mio corpo dalla perdizione, dal laccio di una lingua che sparge calunnie e dalle labbra di quanti agiscono con menzogna. Dinanzi ai miei assalitori sei stato il mio aiuto; io sono salvo,
3 true to your abounding kindness -- and the greatness of your name -- you liberated me from the fangsof those seeking to devour me, from the clutches of those seeking my life, from the many ordeals which I haveendured,	3 per la tua grande misericordia e per il tuo nome, dai lacci tesi per ingoiarmi, dalla mano di quanti insidiavano alla mia vita, dalle molte tribolazioni che ho avuto,
4 from the stifling heat which hemmed me in, from the heart of a fire which I had not kindled,	4 dal rogo che doveva soffocarmi dintorno, dal fuoco che io non avevo acceso,
5 from deep in the bel y of Sheol,	5 dal ventre degl'inferi tanto profondo, dalla lingua impura e dalla parola bugiarda,
6 treacherous denunciations to the king. My soul has been close to death, my life had gone down to thebrink of Sheol.	6 dal dardo di una lingua ingiusta. La mia anima si è avvicinata alla morte e la mia vita si è abbassata sino ai confini degl'inferi;
7 I was completely surrounded, there was no one to help me; I looked for someone to help me, there wasno one.	7 ero circondato da tutti i lati e non c'era aiuto, aspettavo un sostegno degli uomini, ma non c'era.
8 Then I remembered your mercy, Lord, and your deeds from earliest times, how you deliver those whowait for you patiently, and save them from the clutches of their enemies.	8 Mi sono ricordato della tua pietà, o Signore, dei benefici che ci hai da sempre elargito, perché tu liberi quelli che confidano in te, li salvi dalla mano dei perversi.
9 And I sent up my plea from the earth, I begged to be delivered from death.	9 Ho innalzato dalla terra la mia supplica, ho pregato per la liberazione dalla morte.
10 I cal ed on the Lord, the father of my Lord, 'Do not desert me in the days of ordeal, in the days of theproud, when we are helpless. I shal praise your name unceasingly and grateful y sing its praises.'	10 Allora ho gridato: "Signore, tu sei mio padre, tu sei il campione della mia salvezza, non abbandonarmi nella tribolazione quando sono senza aiuto di fronte all'arroganza. Canterò il tuo nome senza fine, ti ringrazierò con la lode".
11 And my plea was heard, for you saved me from destruction, you delivered me from that time of evil.	11 La mia preghiera è stata esaudita. Mi hai salvato dalla perdizione, mi hai liberato nel momento del pericolo;
12 And therefore I shal thank you and praise you, and bless the name of the Lord.	12 perciò ti loderò e ti canterò, benedirò il nome del Signore.
13 When I was stil a youth, before I went travelling, in my prayers I asked outright for wisdom.	13 Quand'ero ancora giovane, prima che viaggiassi, ho chiesto apertamente la sapienza nella preghiera.
14 Outside the sanctuary I would pray for her, and to the last I shall continue to seek her.	14 Davanti al tempio l'ho implorata e fino all'ultimo la cercherò.
15 From her blossoming to the ripening of her grape my heart has taken its delight in her. My foot haspursued a straight path, I have sought her ever since my youth.	15 Sbocciata come uva che s'imbruna, il mio cuore s'è rallegrato in essa. Il mio piede ha camminato diritto, dalla giovinezza ha seguito le sue tracce.
16 By bowing my ear a little, I have received her, and have found much instruction.	16 Ho teso appena il mio orecchio e l'ho ricevuta, ho trovato per me molta istruzione.
17 Thanks to her I have advanced; glory be to him who has given me wisdom!	17 Per essa ho fatto dei progressi, a chi mi ha dato la sapienza io renderò gloria.
18 For I was determined to put her into practice, have earnestly pursued the good, and shal not be put toshame.	18 Mi sono deciso a metterla in pratica, ho desiderato il bene, perciò non sarò confuso.
19 My soul has fought to possess her, I have been scrupulous in keeping the Law; I have stretched outmy hands to heaven and bewailed how little I knew of her;	19 Ho impegnato tutte le mie forze per la sapienza e sono stato esatto nella pratica della legge. Tendevo in alto le mie mani e deploravo la mia ignoranza.
20 I have directed my soul towards her, and in purity I have found her; having my heart fixed on her fromthe outset, I shall never be deserted;	20 Ho proteso la mia anima verso la sapienza e l'ho trovata conservando la purezza. Con essa ho acquistato intelligenza fin dall'inizio, perciò non sarò abbandonato.
21 my very core having yearned to discover her, I have now acquired a good possession.	21 Il mio intimo s'è sconvolto per cercarla, ma dopo ho fatto un grande acquisto.
22 In reward the Lord has given me a tongue with which I shal sing his praises.	22 Il Signore mi ha dato in compenso una lingua, e con essa lo loderò.
23 Come close to me, you ignorant, take your place in my school.	23 Avvicinatevi a me, o ignoranti, fermatevi nella mia casa per istruirvi.
24 Why complain about lacking these things when your souls are so thirsty for them?	24 Perché volerne rimanere privi, quando ne siete ancora tanto assetati?
25 I have opened my mouth, I have said: 'Buy her without money,	25 Ho aperto la mia bocca per dire: "Potete acquistarla senza denaro;
26 put your necks under her yoke, let your souls receive instruction, she is near, within your reach.'	26 sottomettete il collo al suo giogo, accogliete l'istruzione: è facile trovarla".
27 See for yourselves: how slight my efforts have been to win so much peace.	27 I vostri occhi vedono che io ho faticato poco e ho trovato per me molto riposo.
28 Buy instruction with a large sum of silver, thanks to her you wil gain much gold.	28 Se l'istruzione vi costa molto argento, con essa acquisterete molto oro.
29 May your souls rejoice in the mercy of the Lord, may you never be ashamed of praising him.	29 Possiate rallegrarvi nella misericordia del Signore, senza avere vergogna per la sua lode.
30 Do your work before the appointed time and at the appointed time he wil give you your reward.(Subscript:) Wisdom of Jesus, son of Sira.	30 Compite la vostra opera in tempo giusto, e a suo tempo vi darà la sua mercede.
