Sirach 51

1 I shal give thanks to you, Lord and King, and praise you, God my Saviour, I give thanks to your name;	1 Orazione di Gesù Figliuolo di Sirach. Te loderò io, o Signore, e Re, e a te darò gloria, o Dio mio salvatore.
2 for you have been my guard and support and redeemed my body from destruction, from the snare ofthe lying tongue, from lips that fabricate falsehood; in the presence of my assailants, you were on my side; youhave been my support, you have redeemed me,	2 Grazie renderò al nome tuo, perché tu se' stato mio ajuto, e mio protettore.
3 true to your abounding kindness -- and the greatness of your name -- you liberated me from the fangsof those seeking to devour me, from the clutches of those seeking my life, from the many ordeals which I haveendured,	3 Ed hai liberato il corpo mio dalla perdizione, e dal laccio della lingua perversa, e dalle labbra di quelli, che ordivano menzogne, e in faccia a' miei avversari mi hai dato soccorso.
4 from the stifling heat which hemmed me in, from the heart of a fire which I had not kindled,	4 E secondo la molta misericordia, onde tu prendi il nome, mi hai liberato da lioni, che ruggivano pronti a divorare,
5 from deep in the bel y of Sheol,	5 Dalle mani di que', che cercavano l'anima mia, e dal cadere nelle tribolazioni, ond'io fui circondato,
6 treacherous denunciations to the king. My soul has been close to death, my life had gone down to thebrink of Sheol.	6 Dalla violenza delle fiamme, tralle quali era rinchiuso, e in mezzo al fuoco non ebbi calore;
7 I was completely surrounded, there was no one to help me; I looked for someone to help me, there wasno one.	7 Dal seno profondo dell'inferno, e dalla impura lingua, dalle testimonianze bugiarde, da un re inique, e dalla ingiusta lingua:
8 Then I remembered your mercy, Lord, and your deeds from earliest times, how you deliver those whowait for you patiently, and save them from the clutches of their enemies.	8 A Dio darà laude l'anima mia fino alla morte;
9 And I sent up my plea from the earth, I begged to be delivered from death.	9 Perocché la mia vita fu presso a cadere laggiù nell'inferno.
10 I cal ed on the Lord, the father of my Lord, 'Do not desert me in the days of ordeal, in the days of theproud, when we are helpless. I shal praise your name unceasingly and grateful y sing its praises.'	10 Mi avean serrato da tutte parti, e non era chi mi porgesse soccorso; mirava se alcun uomo mi desse ajuto, ma ajuto non v'era.
11 And my plea was heard, for you saved me from destruction, you delivered me from that time of evil.	11 Mi ricordai di tua misericordia, o Signore, e delle cose fatte da te ab antico:
12 And therefore I shal thank you and praise you, and bless the name of the Lord.	12 E come tu liberi coloro, cbe te aspettano, e li salvi dalle mani delle nazioni.
13 When I was stil a youth, before I went travelling, in my prayers I asked outright for wisdom.	13 Tu innalzasti la casa mia, sopra la terra, e te io supplicai per la morte, che tutto scioglie.
14 Outside the sanctuary I would pray for her, and to the last I shall continue to seek her.	14 Io invocai il Signore padre del Signor mio, affinchè non mi abbandoni, senza soccorso nel giorno di mia afflizione, e mentre dominano i superbi.
15 From her blossoming to the ripening of her grape my heart has taken its delight in her. My foot haspursued a straight path, I have sought her ever since my youth.	15 Darò laude al nome tuo, e continuamente il celebrerò con rendimenti di grazie, perché fu esaudita la mia orazione.
16 By bowing my ear a little, I have received her, and have found much instruction.	16 E mi liberasti dalla perdizione, e mi salvasti dal tempo cattivo.
17 Thanks to her I have advanced; glory be to him who has given me wisdom!	17 Per questo io ti renderò grazie, e a te darò laude, e benedirò il nome del Signore.
18 For I was determined to put her into practice, have earnestly pursued the good, and shal not be put toshame.	18 Quand'io era tuttor giovanotto prima di inciampare in errori feci professione di cercar la sapienza colla mia orazione.
19 My soul has fought to possess her, I have been scrupulous in keeping the Law; I have stretched outmy hands to heaven and bewailed how little I knew of her;	19 Io la domandava dinanzi al tempio, come sino all'estremo punto la cercherò; ed ella gettò il suo fiore come l'uva primaticcia.
20 I have directed my soul towards her, and in purity I have found her; having my heart fixed on her fromthe outset, I shall never be deserted;	20 Il mio cuore trovò in essa il suo gaudio; il mio piede battè la strada diritta; andai in cerca di lei fin dalla giovinezza.
21 my very core having yearned to discover her, I have now acquired a good possession.	21 Chinai un poco le mie orecchie, e la ascoltai.
22 In reward the Lord has given me a tongue with which I shal sing his praises.	22 E molta sapienza accolsi nella mia mente, e molto in essa mi avanzai.
23 Come close to me, you ignorant, take your place in my school.	23 A lui, che mi da la sapienza, io darò gloria.
24 Why complain about lacking these things when your souls are so thirsty for them?	24 Perocché io mi son risoluto di metterla in pratica; ebbi zelo del bene, e non avronne rossore.
25 I have opened my mouth, I have said: 'Buy her without money,	25 Per lei ha combattuto l'anima mia, e mi tengo costante nel seguitarla.
26 put your necks under her yoke, let your souls receive instruction, she is near, within your reach.'	26 Stesi in alto le mie mani, e deplorai la stoltezza di quest'anima.
27 See for yourselves: how slight my efforts have been to win so much peace.	27 Verso di lei dirizzai l'anima mia, e conosciuto (me) la trovai.
28 Buy instruction with a large sum of silver, thanks to her you wil gain much gold.	28 Con lei possedei da principio il mio cuore; per questo non sarò abbandonato.
29 May your souls rejoice in the mercy of the Lord, may you never be ashamed of praising him.	29 Nel cercar lei le mie viscere soffersero de' turbamenti, per questo possederò un gran bene.
30 Do your work before the appointed time and at the appointed time he wil give you your reward.(Subscript:) Wisdom of Jesus, son of Sira.	30 Il Signore per min mercede mi ha dato la lingua, ed io con essa a luì darò laude.
	31 Appressatevi a me, o ignoranti, e adunatevi nella casa di istruzione:
	32 Perché tuttora tardate? E che rispondete a questo? le anime vostre son grandemente assetate.
	33 Ho aperta la mia bocca, ed ho parlato: comperate senza spesa,
	34 E piegate al giogo il vostro collo, e l'anima vostra accolga la disciplina; perocché è facile il ritrovarla.
	35 Mirate cogli occhi vostri com'io faticai per un poco, ed ho trovato molta requie.
	36 Abbracciate la disciplina come un gran tesoro d'argento, e possedete con lei molto oro.
	37 Si consoli l'anima vostra nella misericordia di Dio, e lodando lui non sarete confusi.
	38 Fate l'opera vostra per tempo, ed egli darà a voi la mercede vostra a suo tempo.
