Sirach 51

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 I shal give thanks to you, Lord and King, and praise you, God my Saviour, I give thanks to your name;	1 Ti loderò, Signore, re, e ti canterò, Dio, mio salvatore, loderò il tuo nome,
2 for you have been my guard and support and redeemed my body from destruction, from the snare ofthe lying tongue, from lips that fabricate falsehood; in the presence of my assailants, you were on my side; youhave been my support, you have redeemed me,	2 perché sei stato mio riparo e mio aiuto, salvando il mio corpo dalla perdizione, dal laccio di una lingua calunniatrice, dalle labbra di quelli che proferiscono menzogna, e di fronte a quanti mi circondavano sei stato il mio aiuto
3 true to your abounding kindness -- and the greatness of your name -- you liberated me from the fangsof those seeking to devour me, from the clutches of those seeking my life, from the many ordeals which I haveendured,	3 e mi hai liberato, secondo la grandezza della tua misericordia e del tuo nome, dai morsi di chi stava per divorarmi, dalla mano di quelli che insidiavano la mia vita, dalle molte tribolazioni di cui soffrivo,
4 from the stifling heat which hemmed me in, from the heart of a fire which I had not kindled,	4 dal soffocamento di una fiamma avvolgente e dal fuoco che non avevo acceso,
5 from deep in the bel y of Sheol,	5 dal profondo del seno degl’inferi, dalla lingua impura e dalla parola falsa
6 treacherous denunciations to the king. My soul has been close to death, my life had gone down to thebrink of Sheol.	6 e dal colpo di una lingua ingiusta. La mia anima era vicina alla morte, la mia vita era giù, vicino agl’inferi.
7 I was completely surrounded, there was no one to help me; I looked for someone to help me, there wasno one.	7 Mi assalivano da ogni parte e nessuno mi aiutava; mi rivolsi al soccorso degli uomini, e non c’era.
8 Then I remembered your mercy, Lord, and your deeds from earliest times, how you deliver those whowait for you patiently, and save them from the clutches of their enemies.	8 Allora mi ricordai della tua misericordia, Signore, e dei tuoi benefici da sempre, perché tu liberi quelli che sperano in te e li salvi dalla mano dei nemici.
9 And I sent up my plea from the earth, I begged to be delivered from death.	9 Innalzai dalla terra la mia supplica e pregai per la liberazione dalla morte.
10 I cal ed on the Lord, the father of my Lord, 'Do not desert me in the days of ordeal, in the days of theproud, when we are helpless. I shal praise your name unceasingly and grateful y sing its praises.'	10 Esclamai: «Signore, padre del mio signore, non mi abbandonare nei giorni della tribolazione, quando sono senz’aiuto, nel tempo dell’arroganza.
11 And my plea was heard, for you saved me from destruction, you delivered me from that time of evil.	11 Io loderò incessantemente il tuo nome, canterò inni a te con riconoscenza». La mia supplica fu esaudita:
12 And therefore I shal thank you and praise you, and bless the name of the Lord.	12 tu infatti mi salvasti dalla rovina e mi strappasti da una cattiva condizione. Per questo ti loderò e ti canterò, e benedirò il nome del Signore.
13 When I was stil a youth, before I went travelling, in my prayers I asked outright for wisdom.	13 Quand’ero ancora giovane, prima di andare errando, ricercai assiduamente la sapienza nella mia preghiera.
14 Outside the sanctuary I would pray for her, and to the last I shall continue to seek her.	14 Davanti al tempio ho pregato per essa, e sino alla fine la ricercherò.
15 From her blossoming to the ripening of her grape my heart has taken its delight in her. My foot haspursued a straight path, I have sought her ever since my youth.	15 Del suo fiorire, come uva vicina a maturare, il mio cuore si rallegrò. Il mio piede s’incamminò per la via retta, fin da giovane ho seguìto la sua traccia.
16 By bowing my ear a little, I have received her, and have found much instruction.	16 Chinai un poco l’orecchio, l’accolsi e vi trovai per me un insegnamento abbondante.
17 Thanks to her I have advanced; glory be to him who has given me wisdom!	17 Con essa feci progresso; onorerò chi mi ha concesso la sapienza.
18 For I was determined to put her into practice, have earnestly pursued the good, and shal not be put toshame.	18 Ho deciso infatti di metterla in pratica, sono stato zelante nel bene e non me ne vergogno.
19 My soul has fought to possess her, I have been scrupulous in keeping the Law; I have stretched outmy hands to heaven and bewailed how little I knew of her;	19 La mia anima si è allenata in essa, sono stato diligente nel praticare la legge. Ho steso le mie mani verso l’alto e ho deplorato che venga ignorata.
20 I have directed my soul towards her, and in purity I have found her; having my heart fixed on her fromthe outset, I shall never be deserted;	20 A essa ho rivolto la mia anima e l’ho trovata nella purezza. In essa ho acquistato senno fin da principio, per questo non l’abbandonerò.
21 my very core having yearned to discover her, I have now acquired a good possession.	21 Le mie viscere si sono commosse nel ricercarla, per questo ho fatto un acquisto prezioso.
22 In reward the Lord has given me a tongue with which I shal sing his praises.	22 Il Signore mi ha dato come mia ricompensa una lingua e con essa non cesserò di lodarlo.
23 Come close to me, you ignorant, take your place in my school.	23 Avvicinatevi a me, voi che siete senza istruzione, prendete dimora nella mia scuola.
24 Why complain about lacking these things when your souls are so thirsty for them?	24 Perché volete privarvi di queste cose, mentre le vostre anime sono tanto assetate?
25 I have opened my mouth, I have said: 'Buy her without money,	25 Ho aperto la mia bocca e ho parlato: «Acquistatela per voi senza denaro.
26 put your necks under her yoke, let your souls receive instruction, she is near, within your reach.'	26 Sottoponete il collo al suo giogo e la vostra anima accolga l’istruzione: essa è vicina a chi la cerca.
27 See for yourselves: how slight my efforts have been to win so much peace.	27 Con i vostri occhi vedete che ho faticato poco e ho trovato per me un grande tesoro.
28 Buy instruction with a large sum of silver, thanks to her you wil gain much gold.	28 Acquistate l’istruzione con grande quantità d’argento e con essa otterrete molto oro.
29 May your souls rejoice in the mercy of the Lord, may you never be ashamed of praising him.	29 L’anima vostra si diletti della misericordia di lui, non vergognatevi di lodarlo.
30 Do your work before the appointed time and at the appointed time he wil give you your reward.(Subscript:) Wisdom of Jesus, son of Sira.	30 Compite la vostra opera per tempo ed egli a suo tempo vi ricompenserà».
