NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 But the souls of the upright are in the hands of God, and no torment can touch them.	1 Le anime dei giusti, invece, sono nelle mani di Dio e nessun tormento le toccherà.
2 To the unenlightened, they appeared to die, their departure was regarded as disaster,	2 Agli occhi degli stolti parve che morissero, una disgrazia fu considerata la loro dipartita,
3 their leaving us like annihilation; but they are at peace.	3 e il loro viaggio lontano da noi una rovina, ma essi sono nella pace.
4 If, as it seemed to us, they suffered punishment, their hope was rich with immortality;	4 Anche se agli occhi degli uomini sono dei castigati, la loro speranza è piena d'immortalità.
5 slight was their correction, great wil their blessings be. God was putting them to the test and has provedthem worthy to be with him;	5 Dopo un breve soffrire, saranno largamente beneficati, perché li ha provati e li ha trovati degni di sé;
6 he has tested them like gold in a furnace, and accepted them as a perfect burnt offering.	6 li ha saggiati come oro nel crogiolo e li ha graditi come un sacrificio perfetto.
7 At their time of visitation, they wil shine out; as sparks run through the stubble, so will they.	7 Nel tempo della loro visita risplenderanno e come scintille nella paglia scorreranno.
8 They wil judge nations, rule over peoples, and the Lord wil be their king for ever.	8 Governeranno le nazioni e avranno potere sui popoli e il Signore sarà loro re per sempre.
9 Those who trust in him wil understand the truth, those who are faithful wil live with him in love; forgrace and mercy await his holy ones, and he intervenes on behalf of his chosen.	9 Quanti confidano in lui comprenderanno la verità e i fedeli dimoreranno presso di lui nell'amore, perché grazia e misericordia sono per i suoi eletti.
10 But the godless wil be duly punished for their reasoning, for having neglected the upright and desertedthe Lord.	10 Gli empi, invece, secondo i loro progetti, riceveranno il castigo, essi che non si sono presi cura del giusto e si sono allontanati dal Signore.
11 Yes, wretched are they who scorn wisdom and discipline: their hope is void, their toil unavailing, theirachievements unprofitable;	11 Chi disprezza la sapienza e l'educazione è infelice, vana la loro speranza, inutili le fatiche e senza profitto le loro opere.
12 their wives are reckless, their children depraved, their descendants accursed.	12 Le loro mogli sono stolte, cattivi i loro figli, maledetta la loro discendenza.
13 Blessed the sterile woman if she be blameless, and has not known an unlawful bed, for she wil havefruit at the visitation of souls.	13 Beata la sterile non contaminata, che non ha conosciuto unione nel peccato, perché avrà il frutto nella visita delle anime.
14 Blessed, too, the eunuch whose hand commits no crime, and who harbours no resentment against theLord: a special favour will be granted to him for his loyalty, a most desirable portion in the temple of the Lord.	14 Beato anche l'eunuco, che non ha operato misfatti con le mani e non ha rivolto pensieri malvagi contro il Signore; a lui infatti per la fedeltà sarà data una grazia speciale e una sorte graditissima nel tempio del Signore.
15 For the fruit of honest labours is glorious, and the root of understanding does not decay.	15 Poiché glorioso è il frutto delle buone fatiche e imperitura la radice dell'intelligenza.
16 But the children of adulterers wil not reach maturity, the offspring of an unlawful bed wil disappear.	16 Ma i figli degli adulteri resteranno imperfetti e il seme di un'unione illegale sarà sterminato.
17 Even if they live long, they wil count for nothing, their old age wil go unhonoured at the last;	17 Anche se avranno lunga vita, come cosa da nulla saranno considerati, e all'ultimo la loro vecchiaia sarà senza onore.
18 while if they die early, they have neither hope nor comfort on the day of judgement,	18 Se poi moriranno presto, non avranno speranza, né conforto nel giorno del giudizio,
19 for the end of a race of evil-doers is harsh.	19 poiché triste è la fine di una generazione ingiusta.
