Ecclesiastes/Qohelet 12

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Remember your Creator while you are still young, before the bad days come, before the years comewhich, you wil say, give you no pleasure;	1 Pensa al tuo Creatore nei giorni della tua giovinezza, prima che vengano i giorni brutti e che ti càpitino anni dei quali tu dica che non ti piacciono;
2 before the sun and the light grow dim and the moon and stars, before the clouds return after the rain;	2 prima che si ottenebrino il sole e la luce, la luna e le stelle, prima che tornino le nubi dopo il temporale.
3 the time when your watchmen become shaky, when strong men are bent double, when the women,one by one, quit grinding, and, as they look out of the window, find their sight growing dim.	3 Nei giorni in cui vacilleranno i guardiani di casa, si curveranno gli uomini robusti, smetteranno il lavoro quelle che macinano, perché fatte poche, caleranno le tenebre su quelle che guardano attraverso le finestre,
4 When the street-door is kept shut, when the sound of grinding fades away, when the first cry of a birdwakes you up, when all the singing has stopped;	4 si chiuderanno i battenti che dànno sulla via; quando si abbasserà il rumore della mola, languirà il gorgheggio dell'uccello e scompariranno tutte le figlie del canto;
5 when going uphil is an ordeal and you are frightened at every step you take- yet the almond tree is inflower and the grasshopper is weighed down and the caper-bush loses its tang; while you are on the way to youreverlasting home and the mourners are assembling in the street;	5 allora si avrà paura delle salite e degli spauracchi della strada; quando fiorirà il mandorlo, si muoverà lenta la locusta, sarà messo da parte il cappero, perché l'uomo se ne va alla sua dimora eterna mentre i lamentatori alzano le loro grida nella via,
6 before the silver thread snaps, or the golden bowl is cracked, or the pitcher shattered at the fountain,or the pul ey broken at the wel -head:	6 prima che si tronchi il filo d'argento, si rompa la sfera d'oro, si frantumi la brocca sulla fonte, si spacchi la carrucola per finire nel pozzo.
7 the dust returns to the earth from which it came, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.	7 Allora la polvere torna alla terra da dove è venuta, e il soffio vitale torna a Dio che lo ha dato.
8 Sheer futility, Qoheleth says, everything is futile.	8 O vanità immensa, ha detto Qohèlet, tutto è vanità.
9 Besides being a sage, Qoheleth taught the people what he himself knew, having weighed, studied andemended many proverbs.	9 Qohèlet, oltre ad essere sapiente lui, insegnò anche la scienza al popolo. Ascoltò, meditò, scrisse molte massime.
10 Qoheleth took pains to write in an attractive style and by it to convey truths.	10 Qohèlet si studiò di trovare parole piacevoli e scrisse la verità onestamente.
11 The sayings of a sage are like goads, like pegs positioned by shepherds: the same shepherd finds ause for both.	11 Le parole dei sapienti sono come pungoli, come chiodi ben piantati sono le raccolte delle loro sentenze; le une e le altre vengono dallo stesso pastore.
12 Furthermore, my child, you must realise that writing books involves endless hard work, and that muchstudy wearies the body.	12 Da ciò che va al di là di questo punto, figlio mio, sta' in guardia: a scrivere molti libri, non si finirebbe mai, e il molto studio logora l'uomo.
13 To sum up the whole matter: fear God and keep his commandments, for that is the duty of everyone.	13 Fine del discorso. Si è già sentito tutto. Temi Dio e osserva i suoi comandamenti, perché l'uomo è tutto qui.
14 For God wil cal al our deeds to judgement, all that is hidden, be it good or bad.	14 Dio giudica ogni azione, anche ciò che è nascosto, sia buono che cattivo.
