NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Remember your Creator while you are still young, before the bad days come, before the years comewhich, you wil say, give you no pleasure;	1 Acuérdate de tu Creador en los días de tu juventud, antes que lleguen los días penosos y vengan los años en los que dirás: «No encuentro en ellos ningún placer»;
2 before the sun and the light grow dim and the moon and stars, before the clouds return after the rain;	2 antes que se oscurezcan el sol y la luz, la luna y las estrellas, y vuelvan las nubes cargadas de lluvia.
3 the time when your watchmen become shaky, when strong men are bent double, when the women,one by one, quit grinding, and, as they look out of the window, find their sight growing dim.	3 En aquel día temblarán los guardianes de la casa y se encorvarán los hombres vigorosos; se detendrán las moledoras, que ya serán pocas, y se oscurecerán las que miran por las ventanas;
4 When the street-door is kept shut, when the sound of grinding fades away, when the first cry of a birdwakes you up, when all the singing has stopped;	4 se cerrarán las puertas de la calle, mientras declina el ruido del molino; cesará el canto de los pájaros y enmudecerán las que entonan canciones.
5 when going uphil is an ordeal and you are frightened at every step you take- yet the almond tree is inflower and the grasshopper is weighed down and the caper-bush loses its tang; while you are on the way to youreverlasting home and the mourners are assembling in the street;	5 Entonces se temerán las cuestas empinadas y los terrores acecharán por el camino. El almendro estará florecido, se pondrá pesada la langosta y la alcaparra perderá su eficacia. Porque el hombre se va a su morada eterna, mientras las plañideras rondan por la calle.
6 before the silver thread snaps, or the golden bowl is cracked, or the pitcher shattered at the fountain,or the pul ey broken at the wel -head:	6 Sí, acuérdate de él antes que se corte la hebra de plata y se quiebre la ampolla de oro, antes que se haga pedazos el cántaro en la fuente y se rompa la cuerda del aljibe;
7 the dust returns to the earth from which it came, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.	7 antes que el polvo vuelva a la tierra, como lo que es, y el aliento vuelva a Dios, porque es él quien lo dio.
8 Sheer futility, Qoheleth says, everything is futile.	8 ¡Vanidad, pura vanidad!, dice Cohélet. ¡Nada más que vanidad!
9 Besides being a sage, Qoheleth taught the people what he himself knew, having weighed, studied andemended many proverbs.	9 Cohélet, además de ser sabio, también enseñó la ciencia al pueblo; él pesó, examinó y ajustó numerosos proverbios.
10 Qoheleth took pains to write in an attractive style and by it to convey truths.	10 Cohélet trató de encontrar sentencias agradables y escribió exactamente palabras verdaderas
11 The sayings of a sage are like goads, like pegs positioned by shepherds: the same shepherd finds ause for both.	11 Los dichos de los sabios son como aguijones y las colecciones de sentencias, como mojones bien plantados, dones de un solo pastor.
12 Furthermore, my child, you must realise that writing books involves endless hard work, and that muchstudy wearies the body.	12 Una advertencia más, hijo mío: multiplicar los libros es una cosa interminable y estudiar demasiado deja el cuerpo exhausto.
13 To sum up the whole matter: fear God and keep his commandments, for that is the duty of everyone.	13 En conclusión: una vez oído todo esto, teme al Señor y observa sus mandamientos, porque esto es todo para el hombre.
14 For God wil cal al our deeds to judgement, all that is hidden, be it good or bad.	14 Dios llevará a juicio todas las obras, aun loa que está escondido, sea bueno o malo.
