Proverbs 27

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA TINTORI
1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.	1 Non ti vantar del domani, perchè non sai quel che possa produrre il giorno da venire.
2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.	2 Altri ti lodi, non la tua bocca,
3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.	3 un estraneo, non le tue labbra. Grave è la pietra, pesante la sabbia, ma più pesante dell'una e dell'altra è l'ira dello stolto.
4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?	4 L'ira e l'impetuoso furore non han misericordia, ma l'impeto della gelosia chi potrà sostenerlo?
5 Better open reproof than feigned love.	5 Meglio riprensione aperta che amore occulto.
6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.	6 Son migliori le ferite di chi ama che i falsi baci di chi odia.
7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.	7 Chi è satollo calpesterà il favo di miele, ma per chi ha fame è dolce anche l'amaro.
8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.	8 Come uccello che va ramingo lungi dal nido, così l'uomo che abbandona il suo posto.
9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.	9 Il cuore trova piacere nell'unguento e nei vari odori, l'anima trova conforto nei buoni consigli d'un amico.
10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.	10 Non abbandonare l'amico tuo, nè l'amico di tuo padre e non andare a casa del tuo fratello nel giorno della tua afflizione. Un vicino al fianco vai più d'un fratello da lontano.
11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.	11 Applicati alla sapienza, figlio mio, rallegrami il cuore; così potrai rispondere a chi t'insulta.
12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	12 L'astuto, visto il pericolo, si nasconde, l'incauto passa avanti e ne paga il fio.
13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.	13 Togli la veste a chi s'è fatto mallevadore per uno straniero, e per i forestieri prendi il pegno a lui.
14 Whoever at dawn loudly blesses his neighbour -- it will be reckoned to him as a curse.	14 Colui che benedice il suo prossimo ad alta voce di buon mattino, sarà simile a chi lo maledice.
15 The dripping of a gutter on a rainy day and a quarrelsome woman are alike;	15 Lo sgocciolio del tetto nella fredda stagione e la donna litigiosa si somigliano.
16 whoever can restrain her, can restrain the wind, and take a firm hold on grease.	16 Chi la ritiene è come colui che vuol tenere il vento e stringer l'olio nella sua destra.
17 Iron is sharpened by iron, one person is sharpened by contact with another.	17 Il ferro si affila col ferro e l'uomo acuisce l'ingegno del suo amico.
18 Whoever tends the fig tree eats its figs, whoever looks after his master wil be honoured.	18 Chi ha cura del fico ne mangerà i frutti, e chi custodisce il suo padrone sarà onorato.
19 As water reflects face back to face, so one human heart reflects another.	19 Come nelle acque si riflettono i visi di chi vi si specchia, così i cuori degli uomini son manifesti ai sapienti.
20 Sheol and Perdition are never satisfied, insatiable, too, are human eyes.	20 L'inferno e la morte non son mai pieni, così gli occhi degli uomini sono insaziabili.
21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.	21 Come si prova al crogiolo l'argento e al fornello l'oro, così vien provato l'uomo nella bocca di chi lo loda. Il cuore dell'iniquo cerca il male, il cuore diritto cerca la scienza.
22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.	22 Anche se pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio, come si fa dell'orzo, col pestello, non gli leveresti la sua stoltezza.
23 Know your flocks' condition well, take good care of your herds;	23 Bada bene allo stato del tuo gregge, ed abbi cura delle tue mandre,
24 for riches do not last for ever, crowns do not hand themselves on from age to age.	24 perchè non ne avrai sempre il possesso: anche la corona è data di generazione in generazione.
25 The grass once gone, the aftergrowth appearing, the hay gathered in from the mountains,	25 I prati sono aperti, spuntano le verdi erbette, è raccolto il fieno dei monti;
26 you should have lambs to clothe you, goats to buy you a field,	26 e gli agnelli ti forniscon le vesti, i capretti ti pagano il campo;
27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.	27 il latte delle capre può bastare a nutrirti, al necessario della tua famiglia, al mantenimento delle tue serve.
