1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.	1 Non ti vantare di cosa, che abbia da essere, mentre non sai quel, che possa produrre il dì vegnente.
2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.	2 La bocca altrui, e non la tua dia lode a te; l'estraneo, e non le tue proprie labbra.
3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.	3 Grave è il sasso, e pesante l'arena; ma l'ira dello stolto pesa più dell'uno, e dell'altra.
4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?	4 L'ira, e il furore, che scoppia, non lascian luogo alla misericordia; ma all'impeto dell'invidioso chi potrà reggere?
5 Better open reproof than feigned love.	5 E migliore un'aperta riprensione, che un amore che si nasconde.
6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.	6 Sono migliori le ferite, che vengono da chi ama, che i falsi baci di chi odia.
7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.	7 L'anima satolla calpesta il favo di miele; ma l'anima affamata prende per dolce anche l'amaro.
8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.	8 L'uomo che abbandona il suo posto, è come l'uccello, che scappa dal suo nido:
9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.	9 L'unguento, e la varietà degli odori, rallegra il cuore, e i buoni consigli dell'amico danno conforto all'anima.
10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.	10 Non abbandonare l'amico tuo, e l'amico del padre tuo: e non andare a casa del tuo fratello nel giorno di tua afflizione. Giova più un vicino, che ti sta presso, che un fratello assente.
11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.	11 Applicati alla sapienza, figliuol mio, e consola il mio cuore: affinchè tu possa rispondere a chi ti screditasse.
12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.	12 L'uom prudente alla vista del male, va a nascondersi: gli imprudenti passano avanti, e ne soffrono il danno.
13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.	13 Prendi la veste di colui, che è entrato mallevadore per uno straniero, e levagli il pegno in grazia dei forestieri.
14 Whoever at dawn loudly blesses his neighbour -- it will be reckoned to him as a curse.	14 Colui che prima del giorno va a benedire ad alta voce il suo prossimo, sarà simile a chi lo maledice.
15 The dripping of a gutter on a rainy day and a quarrelsome woman are alike;	15 Il tetto, che per cui passa l'acqua nella fredda stagione, e la donna, che piatisce, sono due cose somiglianti.
16 whoever can restrain her, can restrain the wind, and take a firm hold on grease.	16 Chi vuoi ritenerla è come chi vuoi tenere il vento, e strigner l'olio nella sua destra.
17 Iron is sharpened by iron, one person is sharpened by contact with another.	17 Il ferro assottiglia il ferro, e l'uomo assottiglia l'ingegno del suo amico.
18 Whoever tends the fig tree eats its figs, whoever looks after his master wil be honoured.	18 Chi custodirà la sua ficaia ne mangerà il frutto, e chi custodisce il suo padrone sarà onorato.
19 As water reflects face back to face, so one human heart reflects another.	19 Come nelle acque risplendono le facce di quelli, che vi si mirano, cosi i cuori degli uomini sono manifesti ai sapienti.
20 Sheol and Perdition are never satisfied, insatiable, too, are human eyes.	20 L'inferno, e la morte mai dicono, basta; cosi gli occhi degli uomini sono insaziabili.
21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.	21 Come nella fornace ai prova l'agento, e l'oro nel grogiuolo; cosi è provato l'uomo per le parole di chi lo lauda. Il cuore dell'iniquo agogna al male: il cuore diritto va cercando prudenza.
22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.	22 Quando ben tu pestassi lo stolto nel mortaio, come si fa dell'orzo, battendolo col pestello, non gli leveresti la sua stoltezza.
23 Know your flocks' condition well, take good care of your herds;	23 Abbi esatta conoscenza delle tue pecorelle, e bada attentamente al tuo gregge:
24 for riches do not last for ever, crowns do not hand themselves on from age to age.	24 Perocché tu non potrai sempre farlo: ma ti sarà data una corona perpetua.
25 The grass once gone, the aftergrowth appearing, the hay gathered in from the mountains,	25 I prati sono aperti, e spuntano le verdi erbe, e il fieno de' monti è raccolto.
26 you should have lambs to clothe you, goats to buy you a field,	26 Gli agnelli ti vestiranno, e i capretti pagheranno il campo.
27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.	27 Contentati del latte di capra per tuo cibo, per sostentamento di tua famiglia, e per vitto delle tue serve.
