Psalms 40

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 [For the choirmaster Of David Psalm] I waited, I waited for Yahweh, then he stooped to me and heardmy cry for help.	1 Magistro chori. David. Psalmus.
2 He pul ed me up from the seething chasm, from the mud of the mire. He set my feet on rock, andmade my footsteps firm.	2 Exspectans exspectavi Dominum, et intendit mihi.
3 He put a fresh song in my mouth, praise of our God. Many wil be awestruck at the sight, and will puttheir trust in Yahweh.	3 Et exaudivit clamorem meum et eduxit me de lacu miseriae et de luto faecis; et statuit super petram pedes meos et firmavit gressus meos.
4 How blessed are those who put their trust in Yahweh, who have not sided with rebels and those whohave gone astray in falsehood.	4 Et immisit in os meum canticum novum, carmen Deo nostro. Videbunt multi et timebunt et sperabunt in Domino.
5 How much you have done, Yahweh, my God -- your wonders, your plans for us -- you have no equal. Iwil proclaim and speak of them; they are beyond number.	5 Beatus vir, qui posuit Dominum spem suam et non respexit superbos et declinantes in mendacium.
6 You wanted no sacrifice or cereal offering, but you gave me an open ear, you did not ask for burntoffering or sacrifice for sin;	6 Multa fecisti tu, Domine Deus meus, mirabilia tua, et cogitationes tuas pro nobis: non est qui similis sit tibi. Si nuntiare et eloqui voluero, multiplicabuntur super numerum.
7 then I said, 'Here I am, I am coming.' In the scrol of the book it is written of me,	7 Sacrificium et oblationem noluisti, aures autem fodisti mihi. Holocaustum et pro peccato non postulasti,
8 my delight is to do your will; your law, my God, is deep in my heart.	8 tunc dixi: “ Ecce venio. In volumine libri scriptum est de me.
9 I proclaimed the saving justice of Yahweh in the great assembly. See, I will not hold my tongue, as youwel know.	9 Facere voluntatem tuam, Deus meus, volui; et lex tua in praecordiis meis ”.
10 I have not kept your saving justice locked in the depths of my heart, but have spoken of yourconstancy and saving help. I have made no secret of your faithful and steadfast love, in the great assembly.	10 Annuntiavi iustitiam tuam in ecclesia magna; ecce labia mea non prohibebo, Domine, tu scisti.
11 You, Yahweh, have not withheld your tenderness from me; your faithful and steadfast love will alwaysguard me.	11 Iustitiam tuam non abscondi in corde meo, veritatem tuam et salutare tuum dixi. Non abscondi misericordiam tuam et veritatem tuam ab ecclesia magna.
12 For troubles surround me, until they are beyond number; my sins have overtaken me; I cannot seemy way. They outnumber the hairs of my head, and my heart fails me.	12 Tu autem, Domine, ne prohibeas miserationes tuas a me; misericordia tua et veritas tua semper suscipiant me,
13 Be pleased, Yahweh, to rescue me, Yahweh, come quickly and help me!	13 quoniam circumdederunt me mala, quorum non est numerus; comprehenderunt me iniquitates meae, et non potui videre. Multiplicatae sunt super capillos capitis mei, et cor meum dereliquit me.
14 Shame and dismay to al who seek to take my life. Back with them, let them be humiliated whodelight in my misfortunes.	14 Complaceat tibi, Domine, ut eruas me; Domine, ad adiuvandum me festina.
15 Let them be aghast with shame, those who say to me, 'Aha, aha!'	15 Confundantur et revereantur simul, qui quaerunt animam meam, ut auferant eam. Avertantur retrorsum et erubescant, qui volunt mihi mala.
16 But joy and happiness in you to all who seek you! Let them ceaselessly cry, 'Great is Yahweh' wholove your saving power.	16 Obstupescant propter confusionem suam, qui dicunt mihi: “ Euge, euge ”.
17 Poor and needy as I am, the Lord has me in mind. You, my helper, my Saviour, my God, do notdelay.	17 Exsultent et laetentur in te omnes quaerentes te; et dicant semper: “ Magnificetur Dominus ”, qui diligunt salutare tuum.
	18 Ego autem egenus et pauper sum; Dominus sollicitus est mei. Adiutor meus et liberator meus tu es; Deus meus, ne tardaveris.
