NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
[For the choirmaster Of David Psalm] I waited, I waited for Yahweh, then he stooped to me and heardmy cry for help.1 For the leader. A psalm of David.
He pul ed me up from the seething chasm, from the mud of the mire. He set my feet on rock, andmade my footsteps firm.2 I waited, waited for the LORD; who bent down and heard my cry,
He put a fresh song in my mouth, praise of our God. Many wil be awestruck at the sight, and will puttheir trust in Yahweh.3 Drew me out of the pit of destruction, out of the mud of the swamp, Set my feet upon rock, steadied my steps,
How blessed are those who put their trust in Yahweh, who have not sided with rebels and those whohave gone astray in falsehood.4 And put a new song in my mouth, a hymn to our God. Many shall look on in awe and they shall trust in the LORD.
How much you have done, Yahweh, my God -- your wonders, your plans for us -- you have no equal. Iwil proclaim and speak of them; they are beyond number.5 Happy those whose trust is the LORD, who turn not to idolatry or to those who stray after falsehood.
You wanted no sacrifice or cereal offering, but you gave me an open ear, you did not ask for burntoffering or sacrifice for sin;6 How numerous, O LORD, my God, you have made your wondrous deeds! And in your plans for us there is none to equal you. Should I wish to declare or tell them, too many are they to recount.
then I said, 'Here I am, I am coming.' In the scrol of the book it is written of me,7 sacrifice and offering you do not want; but ears open to obedience you gave me. Holocausts and sin-offerings you do not require;
my delight is to do your will; your law, my God, is deep in my heart.8 so I said, "Here I am; your commands for me are written in the scroll.
I proclaimed the saving justice of Yahweh in the great assembly. See, I will not hold my tongue, as youwel know.9 To do your will is my delight; my God, your law is in my heart!"
I have not kept your saving justice locked in the depths of my heart, but have spoken of yourconstancy and saving help. I have made no secret of your faithful and steadfast love, in the great assembly.10 I announced your deed to a great assembly; I did not restrain my lips; you, LORD, are my witness.
You, Yahweh, have not withheld your tenderness from me; your faithful and steadfast love will alwaysguard me.11 Your deed I did not hide within my heart; your loyal deliverance I have proclaimed. I made no secret of your enduring kindness to a great assembly.
For troubles surround me, until they are beyond number; my sins have overtaken me; I cannot seemy way. They outnumber the hairs of my head, and my heart fails me.12 LORD, do not withhold your compassion from me; may your enduring kindness ever preserve me.
Be pleased, Yahweh, to rescue me, Yahweh, come quickly and help me!13 For all about me are evils beyond count; my sins so overcome me I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head; my courage fails me.
Shame and dismay to al who seek to take my life. Back with them, let them be humiliated whodelight in my misfortunes.14 LORD, graciously rescue me! Come quickly to help me, LORD!
Let them be aghast with shame, those who say to me, 'Aha, aha!'15 Put to shame and confound all who seek to take my life. Turn back in disgrace those who desire my ruin.
But joy and happiness in you to all who seek you! Let them ceaselessly cry, 'Great is Yahweh' wholove your saving power.16 Let those who say "Aha!" know dismay and shame.
Poor and needy as I am, the Lord has me in mind. You, my helper, my Saviour, my God, do notdelay.17 But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. May those who long for your help always say, "The LORD be glorified."
Though I am afflicted and poor, the Lord keeps me in mind. You are my help and deliverer; my God, do not delay!
