NEW JERUSALEMKING JAMES BIBLE
[Song of Ascents] I lift up my eyes to you who are enthroned in heaven.1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
Just as the eyes of slaves are on their masters' hand, or the eyes of a slave-girl on the hand of hermistress, so our eyes are on Yahweh our God, for him to take pity on us.2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
Have pity on us, Yahweh, have pity, for we have had our full share of scorn,3 Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
more than our share of jeers from the complacent. (Scorn is for the proud.)4 Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
