1 [Song of Ascents] I lift up my eyes to you who are enthroned in heaven.	1 Cantico di Maalot. IO alzo gli occhi miei a te, Che abiti ne’ cieli.
2 Just as the eyes of slaves are on their masters' hand, or the eyes of a slave-girl on the hand of hermistress, so our eyes are on Yahweh our God, for him to take pity on us.	2 Ecco, come i servi hanno gli occhi alla mano de’ lor padroni; Come la serva ha gli occhi alla mano della sua padrona, Così noi abbiamo gli occhi nostri al Signore Iddio nostro, Infino a tanto ch’egli abbia pietà di noi.
3 Have pity on us, Yahweh, have pity, for we have had our full share of scorn,	3 Abbi pietà di noi, Signore, abbi pietà di noi; Perciocchè noi siamo molto sazii di disprezzo.
4 more than our share of jeers from the complacent. (Scorn is for the proud.)	4 L’anima nostra è grandemente sazia Dello scherno degli uomini agiati, dello sprezzo degli altieri
