NEW JERUSALEMSAGRADA BIBLIA
Stil speaking to Job, Yahweh said:1 O Senhor, dirigindo-se a Jó, lhe disse:
Is Yahweh's opponent going to give way? Has God's critic thought up an answer?2 Aquele que disputa com o Todo-poderoso apresente suas críticas! Aquele que discute com Deus responda!
Job replied to Yahweh:3 Jó respondeu ao Senhor nestes termos:
My words have been frivolous: what can I reply? I had better lay my hand over my mouth.4 Leviano como sou, que posso responder-te? Ponho minha mão na boca;
I have spoken once, I shal not speak again; I have spoken twice, I have nothing more to say.5 falei uma vez, não repetirei, duas vezes... nada acrescentarei.
Yahweh gave Job his answer from the heart of the tempest. He said:6 Então, do seio da tempestade, o Senhor deu a Jó esta resposta:
Brace yourself like a fighter, I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me!7 Cinge os teus rins como um homem; vou interrogar-te, tu me responderás.
Do you real y want to reverse my judgement, put me in the wrong and yourself in the right?8 Queres reduzir a nada a minha justiça, e condenar-me antes de ter razão?
Has your arm the strength of God's, can your voice thunder as loud?9 Tens um braço semelhante ao de Deus, e uma voz troante como a dele?
Come on, display your majesty and grandeur, robe yourself in splendour and glory.10 Orna-te então de grandeza e majestade, reveste-te de esplendor e glória!
Let the fury of your anger burst forth, humble the haughty at a glance!11 Espalha as ondas de tua cólera. Com um olhar, abaixa todo o orgulho;
At a glance, bring down al the proud, strike down the wicked where they stand.12 com um olhar, humilha o soberbo, esmaga os maus no mesmo lugar em que eles estão.
Bury the lot of them in the ground, shut them, every one, in the Dungeon.13 Mete-os todos juntos debaixo da terra, amarra-lhes os rostos num lugar escondido.
And I shal be the first to pay you homage, since your own right hand is strong enough to save you.14 Então eu também te louvarei por triunfares pela força de tua mão.
But look at Behemoth, my creature, just as you are! He feeds on greenstuff like the ox,15 Vê Beemot, que criei contigo, nutre-se de erva como o boi.
but what strength he has in his loins, what power in his stomach muscles!16 Sua força reside nos rins, e seu vigor nos músculos do ventre.
His tail is as stiff as a cedar, the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.17 Levanta sua cauda como {um ramo} de cedro, os nervos de suas coxas são entrelaçados.
His bones are bronze tubes, his frame like forged iron.18 Seus ossos são tubos de bronze, sua estrutura é feita de barras de ferro.
He is the first of the works of God. His Maker threatened him with the sword,19 É obra-prima de Deus, foi criado como o soberano de seus companheiros.
forbidding him the mountain regions and al the wild animals that play there.20 As montanhas fornecem-lhe a pastagem, os animais dos campos divertem-se em volta dele.
Under the lotus he lies, he hides among the reeds in the swamps.21 Deita-se sob os lótus, no segredo dos caniços e dos brejos;
The leaves of the lotus give him shade, the willows by the stream shelter him.22 os lótus cobrem-no com sua sombra, os salgueiros da margem o cercam.
If the river overflows, he does not worry: Jordan might come up to his mouth, but he would not care.23 Quando o rio transborda, ele não se assusta; mesmo que o Jordão levantasse até a sua boca, ele ficaria tranqüilo.
Who is going to catch him by the eyes or put poles through his nose?24 Quem o seguraria pela frente, e lhe furaria as ventas para nelas passar cordas?
Leviathan, too! Can you catch him with a fish-hook or hold his tongue down with a rope?
Can you put a cane through his nostrils or pierce his jaw with a hook?
Will he plead lengthily with you, addressing you in diffident tones?
Will he strike a bargain with you to become your slave for life?
Will you make a pet of him, like a bird, keep him on a lead to amuse your little girls?
Is he to be sold by the fishing guild and then retailed by merchants?
Riddle his hide with darts? Or his head with fishing spears?
You have only to lay a finger on him never to forget the struggle or risk it again!
