1 Stil speaking to Job, Yahweh said:	1 - Prese allora a parlare il Signore a Giobbe dalla procella e disse:
2 Is Yahweh's opponent going to give way? Has God's critic thought up an answer?	2 «Recingi pur da uomo [forte] i tuoi fianchi, io t'interrogherò e tu ammaestrami.
3 Job replied to Yahweh:	3 Renderai tu forse vano il mio diritto, e darai torto a me per aver te ragione?
4 My words have been frivolous: what can I reply? I had better lay my hand over my mouth.	4 E se hai un braccio come quello di Dio, e il tuono della tua voce è simile al suo,
5 I have spoken once, I shal not speak again; I have spoken twice, I have nothing more to say.	5 circondati d'eccellenza e lèvati in alto, sii glorioso e ammantati di magnifiche vesti:
6 Yahweh gave Job his answer from the heart of the tempest. He said:	6 disperdi nel tuo furore i superbi, e ogni altiero che tu veda umilialo:
7 Brace yourself like a fighter, I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me!	7 volgi lo sguardo su tutti i superbi e confondili, e infrangi gli empii là ove si trovano;
8 Do you real y want to reverse my judgement, put me in the wrong and yourself in the right?	8 nascondili insieme nella polvere, e nella fossa immergi i loro volti;
9 Has your arm the strength of God's, can your voice thunder as loud?	9 allora anch'io riconosceròche la tua destra ti può salvare!
10 Come on, display your majesty and grandeur, robe yourself in splendour and glory.	10 Ecco Behemoth, che io ho fatto insieme con te: erba come un bove esso mangia;
11 Let the fury of your anger burst forth, humble the haughty at a glance!	11 la sua forza sta nei suoi fianchi, la sua vigoria nell'ombelico del suo ventre.
12 At a glance, bring down al the proud, strike down the wicked where they stand.	12 Indura esso la sua coda come un cedro, i tendini delle sue cosce sono avviluppati;
13 Bury the lot of them in the ground, shut them, every one, in the Dungeon.	13 le sue ossa sono come canne di bronzo, la sua cartilagine come lamine di ferro.
14 And I shal be the first to pay you homage, since your own right hand is strong enough to save you.	14 Esso è il primo dei prodotti di Dio; chi lo ha fatto, lo domina con la sua spada.
15 But look at Behemoth, my creature, just as you are! He feeds on greenstuff like the ox,	15 Ad esso i monti forniscono le erbe, là ove scherzano tutte le bestie del campo.
16 but what strength he has in his loins, what power in his stomach muscles!	16 Sotto l'ombra esso dorme, nell'interno dei canneti e nei luoghi paludosi;
17 His tail is as stiff as a cedar, the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.	17 lo ricoprono i loti con la loro ombra, e lo circondano i salici da torrente.
18 His bones are bronze tubes, his frame like forged iron.	18 Ecco, esso tracanna un fiume senza scomporsi, e rimane tranquillo anche se il Giordano irrompa contro il suo muso.
19 He is the first of the works of God. His Maker threatened him with the sword,	19 Chi mai potrà abbrancarlo tra le occhiaie con un amo, e con lesine forerà le sue narici?
20 forbidding him the mountain regions and al the wild animals that play there.	20 Forse potrai estrarre con l'amo Leviathan, e con una fune legherai tu la sua lingua?
21 Under the lotus he lies, he hides among the reeds in the swamps.	21 Metterai tu forse un anello alle sue narici, e con un gancio gli bucherai la mascella?
22 The leaves of the lotus give him shade, the willows by the stream shelter him.	22 Si metterà esso forse con insistenza a pregarti, ovvero ti rivolgerà parole tenere?
23 If the river overflows, he does not worry: Jordan might come up to his mouth, but he would not care.	23 Stringerà forse con te un patto, perchè tu lo prenda qual servo per sempre?
24 Who is going to catch him by the eyes or put poles through his nose?	24 Giocheresti forse con lui come con un uccello, o gli metteresti un laccio per [trastullar] le tue ancelle?
25 Leviathan, too! Can you catch him with a fish-hook or hold his tongue down with a rope?	25 Lo squarteranno forse i soci [della pesca], lo taglieranno i venditori [di pesce]?
26 Can you put a cane through his nostrils or pierce his jaw with a hook?	26 Potresti tu riempir le reti con la sua pelle, e il cesto dei pesci con la sua testa?
27 Will he plead lengthily with you, addressing you in diffident tones?	27 Mettigli la tua mano addosso: preparati alla guerra, e non parlar più!
28 Will he strike a bargain with you to become your slave for life?	28 Infatti, la speranza di chi [gli dà la caccia] rimane delusa, perchè sotto gli occhi di tutti costui sarà atterrato.
29 Will you make a pet of him, like a bird, keep him on a lead to amuse your little girls?
30 Is he to be sold by the fishing guild and then retailed by merchants?
31 Riddle his hide with darts? Or his head with fishing spears?
32 You have only to lay a finger on him never to forget the struggle or risk it again!
