Job 22

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Eliphaz of Teman spoke next. He said:	1 Elifaz de Temán tomó la palabra y dijo:
2 Can a human being contribute anything to God, when even someone intel igent can benefit onlyhimself?	2 ¿Acaso a Dios puede un hombre ser útil? ¡Sólo a sí mismo es útil el sensato!
3 Does Shaddai derive any benefit from your uprightness, or profit from your blameless conduct?	3 ¿Tiene algún interés Sadday por tu justicia? ¿Gana algo con que seas intachable?
4 Do you think he is punishing you for your piety and bringing you to justice for that?	4 ¿Acaso por tu piedad él te corrige y entra en juicio contigo?
5 No, for your great wickedness, more likely, for your unlimited sins!	5 ¿No será más bien por tu mucha maldad, por tus culpas sin límite?
6 You have exacted unearned pledges from your brothers, stripped people naked of their clothes,	6 Porque exigías sin razón prendas a tus hermanos, arrancabas a los desnudos sus vestidos,
7 failed to give water to the thirsty and refused bread to the hungry;	7 no dabas agua al sediento, al hambriento le negabas el pan;
8 handed the land over to a strong man, for some favoured person to move in,	8 como hombre fuerte que hace suyo el país, y, rostro altivo, se sitúa en él,
9 sent widows away empty-handed and crushed the arms of orphans.	9 despachabas a las viudas con las manos vacías y quebrabas los brazos de los huérfanos.
10 No wonder, then, if snares are al around you, and sudden terrors make you afraid;	10 Por eso los lazos te aprisionan y te estremece un pavor súbito.
11 if light has turned to darkness, so that you cannot see, and you have been submerged in the flood.	11 La luz se hace tiniebla, y ya no ves, y una masa de agua te sumerge.
12 Does not God live high in the heavens, does he not see the zenith of the stars?	12 ¿No está Dios en lo alto de los cielos? ¡Mira la cabeza de las estrellas, qué altas!
13 And because he is up there, you have said, 'What does God know? Can he judge through the darkcloud?	13 Y tú has dicho: «¿Qué conoce Dios? ¿Discierne acaso a través del nublado?
14 The clouds, to him, are an impenetrable veil, as he goes his way on the rim of the heavens.'	14 Un velo opaco son las nubes para él, y anda por el contorno de los cielos.»
15 And wil you stil fol ow the ancient trail trodden by the wicked,	15 ¿Vas a seguir tú la ruta antigua que anduvieron los hombres perversos?
16 those who were borne off before their time, whose foundations were swamped by a flood,	16 Antes de tiempo fueron aventados, cuando un río arrasó sus cimientos.
17 for having said to God, 'Go away! What can Shaddai do to us?'	17 Los que decían a Dios: «¡Apártate de nosotros! ¿Qué puede hacernos Sadday?»
18 Yet he himself had filled their houses with good things, although excluded from the plans of thewicked!	18 Y era él el que colmaba sus casas de ventura, aunque el consejo de los malos seguía lejos de él.
19 At such a spectacle, the upright rejoice, and the innocent deride them:	19 Al verlo los justos se recrean, y de ellos hace burla el inocente:
20 'See how our enemies have been destroyed! See how their wealth has perished in the flames!'	20 «¡Cómo acabó nuestro adversario! ¡el fuego ha devorado su opulencia!».
21 Wel then! Make peace with him, be reconciled, and al your happiness will be restored to you.	21 Reconcíliate con él y haz la paz: así tu dicha te será devuelta.
22 Welcome the teaching from his lips, and keep his words close to your heart.	22 Recibe de su boca la enseñanza, pon sus palabras en tu corazón.
23 If you return, humbled, to Shaddai and drive wickedness far from your tent,	23 Si vuelves a Sadday con humildad, si alejas de tu tienda la injusticia,
24 if you lay your gold down on the dust, Ophir down among the pebbles of the torrent,	24 si tiras al polvo el oro, el Ofir a los guijarros del torrente,
25 Shaddai wil be bars of gold to you and silver piled in heaps.	25 Sadday se te hará lingotes de oro y plata a montones para ti.
26 Then Shaddai will be al your delight, and you wil lift your face to God.	26 Tendrás entonces en Sadday tus delicias y hacia Dios levantarás tu rostro.
27 You wil pray, and he wil hear; and you wil be able to fulfil your vows.	27 El escuchará cuando le invoques, y podrás cumplir tus votos.
28 Whatever you undertake wil go wel , and light will shine on your path;	28 Todo lo que emprendas saldrá bien, y por tus caminos brillará la luz.
29 for he casts down the pride of the arrogant, but he saves those of downcast eyes.	29 Porque él abate el orgullo de los grandes, y salva al que baja los ojos.
30 He rescues anyone who is innocent; have your hands clean, and you wil be saved.	30 El libra al inocente; si son tus manos puras, serás salvo.
