Exodus 9

NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh and say to him, "Yahweh, God of the Hebrews, says this:Let my people go and worship me.	1 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Va trouver Pharaon et dis-lui: Ainsi parle Yahvé, le Dieu des Hébreux: Laissepartir mon peuple, qu'il me serve.
2 If you refuse to let them go and detain them any longer,	2 Si tu refuses de le laisser partir et le retiens plus longtemps,
3 look, the hand of Yahweh wil strike your livestock in the fields, horses, donkeys, camels, oxen andflocks with a deadly plague.	3 voici que la main de Yahvé frappera tes troupeaux qui sont dans les champs, les chevaux, les ânes,les chameaux, les boeufs et le petit bétail, d'une peste très grave.
4 Yahweh wil discriminate between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt: nothing of whatbelongs to the Israelites will die.	4 Yahvé discernera les troupeaux d'Israël des troupeaux des Egyptiens, et rien ne mourra de ce quiappartient aux Israélites.
5 Yahweh has fixed the time. Tomorrow, he has said, Yahweh will do this in the country." '	5 Yahvé a fixé le temps en disant: Demain Yahvé fera cela dans le pays."
6 Next day Yahweh did this: al the Egyptians' livestock died, but nothing of the livestock owned by theIsraelites died.	6 Le lendemain, Yahvé fit cela, et tous les troupeaux des Egyptiens moururent, mais des troupeaux desIsraélites, pas une bête ne mourut.
7 Pharaoh had enquiries made, and found that of the livestock owned by the Israelites not a single beasthad died. But Pharaoh was obstinate and did not let the people go.	7 Pharaon fit une enquête, et voici que des troupeaux d'Israël pas une seule bête n'était morte. Mais lecoeur de Pharaon s'appesantit et il ne laissa pas partir le peuple.
8 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Take handfuls of soot from the kiln, and before Pharaoh's eyeslet Moses throw it in the air.	8 Yahvé dit à Moïse et à Aaron: "Prenez plein vos mains de suie de fourneau et que Moïse la lance enl'air, sous les yeux de Pharaon.
9 It will turn into fine dust over the whole of Egypt and produce boils breaking into sores on man andbeast throughout the whole of Egypt.'	9 Elle se changera en fine poussière sur tout le pays d'Egypte et provoquera, sur les gens et sur lesbêtes, des ulcères bourgeonnant en pustules, dans toute l'Egypte."
10 So they took soot from the kiln and stood in front of Pharaoh, and Moses threw it in the air, and onman and beast it brought out boils breaking into sores.	10 Ils prirent de la suie de fourneau et se tinrent devant Pharaon; Moïse la lança en l'air et gens et bêtesfurent couverts d'ulcères bourgeonnant en pustules.
11 And the magicians could not compete with Moses in the matter of the boils, for the magicians werecovered with boils like al the other Egyptians.	11 Les magiciens ne purent se tenir devant Moïse à cause des ulcères, car les magiciens étaientcouverts d'ulcères comme tous les Egyptiens.
12 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretold to Moses, he did not listen to them.	12 Yahvé endurcit le coeur de Pharaon et il ne les écouta pas, comme l'avait prédit Yahvé.
13 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh. Say to him, "Yahweh,God of the Hebrews, says this: Let my people go and worship me.	13 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Lève-toi de bon matin et tiens-toi devant Pharaon. Tu lui diras: Ainsi parleYahvé, le Dieu des Hébreux: Laisse partir mon peuple, qu'il me serve.
14 For this time I am going to inflict al my plagues on you, on your officials and on your subjects, so thatyou wil know that there is no one like me in the whole world.	14 Car cette fois-ci, je vais envoyer tous mes fléaux contre toi-même, contre tes serviteurs et contre tonpeuple, afin que tu apprennes qu'il n'y en a pas comme moi sur toute la terre.
15 Had I stretched out my hand to strike you and your subjects with pestilence, you would have beenswept from the earth.	15 Si j'avais étendu la main et vous avais frappés de la peste, toi et ton peuple, tu aurais été effacé de laterre.
16 But I have let you survive for this reason: to display my power to you and to have my name talked ofthroughout the world.	16 Mais je t'ai laissé subsister afin que tu voies ma force et qu'on publie mon nom par toute la terre.
17 Since you take a high hand with my people, refusing to let them go,	17 Tu le prends de haut avec mon peuple en ne le laissant pas partir.
18 very wel , at about this time tomorrow, I shal cause so severe a hail to fal as was never known inEgypt from the day of its foundation until now.	18 Eh bien demain, à pareille heure, je ferai tomber une grêle très forte, comme il n'y en a jamais eu enEgypte depuis le jour de sa fondation jusqu'à maintenant.
19 So now send word to have your livestock and everything else you own in the fields put under cover.On man or beast, al that happen to be in the fields and are not brought indoors, the hail will fal and they wildie." '	19 Et maintenant, envoie mettre tes troupeaux à l'abri, et tout ce qui, dans les champs, t'appartient. Toutce qui, homme ou bête, se trouvera dans les champs et n'aura pas été ramené à la maison, la grêle tombera sur luiet il mourra."
20 Those of Pharaoh's officials who respected what Yahweh said, brought their slaves and livestockindoors,	20 Celui des serviteurs de Pharaon qui craignit la parole de Yahvé fit rentrer en hâte ses esclaves et sestroupeaux dans les maisons.
21 but those who did not take to heart what Yahweh said left their slaves and livestock in the fields.	21 Mais celui qui ne prit pas à coeur la parole de Yahvé laissa aux champs ses esclaves et sestroupeaux.
22 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand towards heaven so that it hails throughout thewhole of Egypt, on man and beast and on everything growing anywhere in Egypt.'	22 Yahvé dit à Moïse: "Etends ta main vers le ciel et qu'il grêle dans tout le pays d'Egypte, sur leshommes et sur les bêtes, sur toute l'herbe des champs au pays d'Egypte."
23 Moses stretched out his staff towards heaven, and Yahweh thundered and rained down hail. Lightningstruck the earth and Yahweh rained down hail on Egypt.	23 Moïse étendit son bâton vers le ciel, et Yahvé tonna et fit tomber la grêle. La foudre frappa le sol, etYahvé fit tomber la grêle sur le pays d'Egypte.
24 And so there was hail, and lightning accompanied the hail, very severe, such as had never beenknown anywhere in Egypt since it first became a nation.	24 Il y eut de la grêle et le feu jaillissait au milieu de la grêle, une grêle très forte, comme il n'y en avaitjamais eu au pays des Egyptiens depuis qu'ils formaient une nation.
25 Al over Egypt the hail struck down everything in the fields, man and beast, and the hail beat downeverything growing in the fields and shattered al the trees in the fields.	25 La grêle frappa, dans tout le pays d'Egypte, tout ce qui était dans les champs, hommes et bêtes. Lagrêle frappa toutes les herbes des champs et brisa tous les arbres des champs.
26 The only place where there was no hail was in the Goshen region, where the Israelites lived.	26 Ce n'est qu'au pays de Goshèn, où se trouvaient les Israélites, qu'il n'y eut pas de grêle.
27 Pharaoh then sent for Moses and Aaron and said, 'This time, I have sinned. Yahweh is in the right; Iand my subjects are in the wrong.	27 Pharaon fit appeler Moïse et Aaron et leur dit: "Cette fois, j'ai péché; c'est Yahvé qui est juste, moiet mon peuple, nous sommes coupables.
28 Pray to Yahweh, for we cannot bear any more of this thunder and hail. I promise to let you go. Youneed stay no longer.'	28 Priez Yahvé. Il y a eu assez de tonnerre et de grêle. Je m'engage à vous laisser partir et vous neresterez pas plus longtemps."
29 Moses said to him, 'The moment I leave the city I shal stretch out my hands to Yahweh. The thunderwil stop, and there wil be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth belongs to Yahweh.	29 Moïse lui dit: "Quand je sortirai de la ville, j'étendrai les mains vers Yahvé, le tonnerre cessera et iln'y aura plus de grêle, afin que tu saches que la terre est à Yahvé.
30 But as for you and your officials, I know very wel that you stil have no respect for Yahweh God.'	30 Mais ni toi ni tes serviteurs, je le sais bien, vous ne craindrez encore Yahvé Dieu."
31 The flax and the barley were ruined, since the barley was in the ear and the flax in bud,	31 Le lin et l'orge furent abattus, car l'orge était en épis et le lin en fleurs.
32 but the wheat and spelt were not destroyed, being late crops.	32 Le froment et l'épeautre ne furent pas abattus car ils sont tardifs.
33 Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He stretched out his hands to Yahweh and the thunderand hail ceased and the rain stopped pouring down on the earth.	33 Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon et de la ville; il étendit les mains vers Yahvé; le tonnerre et la grêlecessèrent, et la pluie ne se déversa plus sur la terre.
34 When Pharaoh saw that rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he relapsed into sin,	34 Quand Pharaon vit que la pluie, la grêle et le tonnerre avaient cessé, il recommença à pécher, et luiet ses serviteurs appesantirent leur coeur.
35 and he and his officials became obstinate again. Pharaoh was stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretoldthrough Moses, refused to let the Israelites go.	35 Le coeur de Pharaon s'endurcit et il ne laissa pas partir les Israélites, comme Yahvé l'avait prédit parMoïse.
