Exodus 9

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh and say to him, "Yahweh, God of the Hebrews, says this:Let my people go and worship me.	1 Yahveh dijo a Moisés: «Preséntate a Faraón y dile: Así dice Yahveh, el Dios de los hebreos: “Deja salir a mi pueblo para que me den culto.”
2 If you refuse to let them go and detain them any longer,	2 Si te niegas a dejarles salir y los sigues reteniendo,
3 look, the hand of Yahweh wil strike your livestock in the fields, horses, donkeys, camels, oxen andflocks with a deadly plague.	3 mira que la mano de Yahveh caerá sobre tus ganados del campo, sobre los caballos, sobre los asnos, sobre los camellos, sobre la vacadas y sobre las ovejas; habrá una grandísima peste.
4 Yahweh wil discriminate between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt: nothing of whatbelongs to the Israelites will die.	4 Pero Yahveh hará distinción entre el ganado de Israel y el ganado de los egipcios, de modo que nada perecerá de lo perteneciente a Israel.»
5 Yahweh has fixed the time. Tomorrow, he has said, Yahweh will do this in the country." '	5 Y Yahveh fijó el plazo, diciendo: «Mañana hará esto Yahveh en el país.»
6 Next day Yahweh did this: al the Egyptians' livestock died, but nothing of the livestock owned by theIsraelites died.	6 Al día siguiente cumplió Yahveh su palabra y murió todo el ganado de los egipcios; mas del ganado de los israelitas no murió ni una sola cabeza.
7 Pharaoh had enquiries made, and found that of the livestock owned by the Israelites not a single beasthad died. But Pharaoh was obstinate and did not let the people go.	7 Faraón mandó hacer averiguaciones, y se vio que del ganado de Israel no había muerto ni un solo animal. Sin embargo, se endureció el corazón de Faraón y no dejó salir al pueblo.
8 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Take handfuls of soot from the kiln, and before Pharaoh's eyeslet Moses throw it in the air.	8 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés y a Aarón: «Tomad dos grandes puñados de hollín de horno, y que Moisés lo lance hacia el cielo, en presencia de Faraón;
9 It will turn into fine dust over the whole of Egypt and produce boils breaking into sores on man andbeast throughout the whole of Egypt.'	9 se convertirá en polvo fino sobre todo el territorio de Egipto, y formará erupciones pustulosas, en hombres y ganados, por toda la tierra de Egipto.»
10 So they took soot from the kiln and stood in front of Pharaoh, and Moses threw it in the air, and onman and beast it brought out boils breaking into sores.	10 Tomaron, pues, hollín de horno y presentándose ante Faraón, lo lanzó Moisés hacia el cielo, y hubo erupciones pustulosas en hombres y ganados.
11 And the magicians could not compete with Moses in the matter of the boils, for the magicians werecovered with boils like al the other Egyptians.	11 Ni los magos pudieron permanecer delante de Moisés a causa de las erupciones; pues los magos tenían las mismas erupciones que todos los egipcios.
12 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretold to Moses, he did not listen to them.	12 Pero Yahveh endureció el corazón de Faraón, que nos les escuchó, según Yahveh había dicho a Moisés.
13 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh. Say to him, "Yahweh,God of the Hebrews, says this: Let my people go and worship me.	13 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés: «Levántate de mañana, preséntate a Faraón y dile: Así dice Yahveh, el Dios de los hebreos: “Deja salir a mi pueblo para que me den culto.”
14 For this time I am going to inflict al my plagues on you, on your officials and on your subjects, so thatyou wil know that there is no one like me in the whole world.	14 Porque esta vez voy a enviar todas mis plagas sobre ti, sobre tus siervos y sobre tu pueblo para que sepas que no hay como yo en toda la tierra.
15 Had I stretched out my hand to strike you and your subjects with pestilence, you would have beenswept from the earth.	15 Si yo hubiera extendido mi mano y te hubiera herido a ti y a tu pueblo con peste, ya habrías desaparecido de la tierra;
16 But I have let you survive for this reason: to display my power to you and to have my name talked ofthroughout the world.	16 pero te he dejado con vida, para hacerte ver mi poder, y para que sea celebrado mi nombre sobre toda la tierra.
17 Since you take a high hand with my people, refusing to let them go,	17 Tú te opones todavía a mi pueblo, para no dejarle salir.
18 very wel , at about this time tomorrow, I shal cause so severe a hail to fal as was never known inEgypt from the day of its foundation until now.	18 Pues mira que mañana, a esta hora, haré llover una granizada tan fuerte, como no hubo otra en Egipto desde el día en que fue fundado hasta el presente.
19 So now send word to have your livestock and everything else you own in the fields put under cover.On man or beast, al that happen to be in the fields and are not brought indoors, the hail will fal and they wildie." '	19 Ahora, pues, manda poner a salvo tu ganado y cuanto tienes en del campo; porque el granizo descargará sobre todos los hombres y animales que se hallan en el campo, y cuantos no se hayan recogido bajo techumbre perecerán.»
20 Those of Pharaoh's officials who respected what Yahweh said, brought their slaves and livestockindoors,	20 Aquéllos de los siervos de Faraón que temieron la palabra de Yahveh pusieron al abrigo a sus siervos y su ganado;
21 but those who did not take to heart what Yahweh said left their slaves and livestock in the fields.	21 mas los que no hicieron caso de la palabra de Yahveh, dejaron en el campo a sus siervos y su ganado.
22 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand towards heaven so that it hails throughout thewhole of Egypt, on man and beast and on everything growing anywhere in Egypt.'	22 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés: «Extiende tu mano hacia el cielo, y que caiga granizo en toda la tierra de Egipto, sobre los hombres, sobre los ganados y sobre todas las hierbas del campo que hay en la tierra de Egipto.»
23 Moses stretched out his staff towards heaven, and Yahweh thundered and rained down hail. Lightningstruck the earth and Yahweh rained down hail on Egypt.	23 Extendió Moisés su cayado hacia el cielo, y Yahveh envió truenos y granizo; cayeron rayos sobre la tierra, y Yahveh hizo llover granizo sobre el país de Egipto.
24 And so there was hail, and lightning accompanied the hail, very severe, such as had never beenknown anywhere in Egypt since it first became a nation.	24 El granizo y los rayos mezclados con el granizo cayeron con fuerza tan extraordinaria que nunca hubo semejante en toda la tierra de Egipto desde que comenzó a ser nación.
25 Al over Egypt the hail struck down everything in the fields, man and beast, and the hail beat downeverything growing in the fields and shattered al the trees in the fields.	25 El granizo hirió cuanto había en el campo en todo el país de Egipto, desde los hombres hasta los ganados. El granizo machacó también toda la hierba del campo, y quebró todos los árboles del campo.
26 The only place where there was no hail was in the Goshen region, where the Israelites lived.	26 Tan sólo en la región de Gosen, donde habitaban los israelitas, no hubo granizo.
27 Pharaoh then sent for Moses and Aaron and said, 'This time, I have sinned. Yahweh is in the right; Iand my subjects are in the wrong.	27 Faraón hizo llamar a Moisés y a Aarón y les dijo: «Ahora sí, he pecado; Yahveh es el justo, y yo y mi pueblo somos inicuos.
28 Pray to Yahweh, for we cannot bear any more of this thunder and hail. I promise to let you go. Youneed stay no longer.'	28 Rogad a Yahveh que cesen ya los truenos y el granizo; y os dejaré salir. No tendréis que quedaros más tiempo aquí.»
29 Moses said to him, 'The moment I leave the city I shal stretch out my hands to Yahweh. The thunderwil stop, and there wil be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth belongs to Yahweh.	29 Moisés le respondió: «Cuando salga de la ciudad extenderé mis manos hacia Yahveh, cesarán los truenos, y no habrá más granizo, para que sepas que la tierra es de Yahveh.
30 But as for you and your officials, I know very wel that you stil have no respect for Yahweh God.'	30 Pero bien sé que ni tú ni tus siervos teméis todavía a Yahveh, Dios.»
31 The flax and the barley were ruined, since the barley was in the ear and the flax in bud,	31 Fueron destrozados el lino y la cebada, pues la cebada estaba ya en espiga, y el lino en flor.
32 but the wheat and spelt were not destroyed, being late crops.	32 El trigo y la espelta no fueron destrozados por ser tardíos.
33 Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He stretched out his hands to Yahweh and the thunderand hail ceased and the rain stopped pouring down on the earth.	33 Dejando a Faraón, salió Moisés de la ciudad, extendió las manos hacia Yahveh, y cesaron los truenos y granizos, y no cayó más lluvia sobre la tierra.
34 When Pharaoh saw that rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he relapsed into sin,	34 Cuando Faraón vio que había cesado la lluvia, el granizo y los truenos, volvió a pecar, endureciendo su corazón, tanto él como sus siervos.
35 and he and his officials became obstinate again. Pharaoh was stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretoldthrough Moses, refused to let the Israelites go.	35 Endurecióse, pues, el corazón de Faraón y no dejó salir a los israelitas como Yahveh había dicho por boca de Moisés.
