Exodus 9

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Go to Pharaoh and say to him, "Yahweh, God of the Hebrews, says this:Let my people go and worship me.	1 El Señor dijo a Moisés: «Ve a presentarte ante el Faraón y dile: «Así habla el Señor, el Dios de los hebreos: Deja que mi pueblo salga a rendirme culto.
2 If you refuse to let them go and detain them any longer,	2 Porque si te resistes a dejarlo partir y sigues reteniéndolo,
3 look, the hand of Yahweh wil strike your livestock in the fields, horses, donkeys, camels, oxen andflocks with a deadly plague.	3 la mano del Señor enviará una peste mortífera contra el ganado que está en los campos: contra los caballos, los asnos, los camellos, los bueyes y el ganado menor.
4 Yahweh wil discriminate between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt: nothing of whatbelongs to the Israelites will die.	4 Pero el Señor hará una distinción entre el ganado de Israel y el de Egipto, de manera que no morirá ni uno solo de los animales que pertenecen a Israel».
5 Yahweh has fixed the time. Tomorrow, he has said, Yahweh will do this in the country." '	5 Y el Señor fijó un plazo, diciendo: «Mañana cumpliré esta amenaza contra el país».
6 Next day Yahweh did this: al the Egyptians' livestock died, but nothing of the livestock owned by theIsraelites died.	6 En efecto, al día siguiente el Señor cumplió su palabra y entonces murió todo el ganado de Egipto. A los israelitas, en cambio, no se les murió ni un solo animal.
7 Pharaoh had enquiries made, and found that of the livestock owned by the Israelites not a single beasthad died. But Pharaoh was obstinate and did not let the people go.	7 Y cuando el Faraón ordenó que hicieran un recuento, se comprobó que los israelitas no habían perdido ni una sola cabeza de ganado. A pesar de eso, el Faraón se obstinó y no dejó partir al pueblo.
8 Yahweh then said to Moses and Aaron, 'Take handfuls of soot from the kiln, and before Pharaoh's eyeslet Moses throw it in the air.	8 El Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: «Recojan un puñado el hollín que se forma en los hornos, y que Moisés lo arroje hacia el cielo, en la presencia del Faraón.
9 It will turn into fine dust over the whole of Egypt and produce boils breaking into sores on man andbeast throughout the whole of Egypt.'	9 Ese hollín se convertirá en un polvo que se expandirá por todo el territorio de Egipto y producirá úlceras purulentas en los hombres y en los animales».
10 So they took soot from the kiln and stood in front of Pharaoh, and Moses threw it in the air, and onman and beast it brought out boils breaking into sores.	10 Ellos recogieron el hollín y se presentaron ante el Faraón. Moisés lo arrojó hacia el cielo, y tanto los hombres como los animales se cubrieron de úlceras.
11 And the magicians could not compete with Moses in the matter of the boils, for the magicians werecovered with boils like al the other Egyptians.	11 Los magos no pudieron enfrentarse con Moisés a causa de las úlceras que les habían salido como a todos los demás egipcios.
12 But Yahweh made Pharaoh stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretold to Moses, he did not listen to them.	12 Pero el Señor endureció el corazón del Faraón, y él no los escuchó, como el Señor había predicho a Moisés.
13 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh. Say to him, "Yahweh,God of the Hebrews, says this: Let my people go and worship me.	13 Luego el Señor dijo a Moisés: «Mañana bien temprano preséntate al Faraón y dile: «Así habla el Señor, el Dios de los hebreos: Deja que mi pueblo salga a rendirme culto.
14 For this time I am going to inflict al my plagues on you, on your officials and on your subjects, so thatyou wil know that there is no one like me in the whole world.	14 Porque esta vez estoy dispuesto a enviar todas mis plagas contra ti, contra tus servidores y contra todo tu pueblo, para que sepas que no hay nadie como yo en toda la tierra.
15 Had I stretched out my hand to strike you and your subjects with pestilence, you would have beenswept from the earth.	15 Si yo hubiera extendido mi mano y enviado una peste contra ti y contra tu pueblo, ya habrías desaparecido de la tierra.
16 But I have let you survive for this reason: to display my power to you and to have my name talked ofthroughout the world.	16 Pero preferí dejarte con vida, para mostrarte mi poder y para que mi Nombre sea pregonado por toda la tierra.
17 Since you take a high hand with my people, refusing to let them go,	17 ¡Y todavía tienes la audacia de oponerte a mi pueblo para impedir su partida!
18 very wel , at about this time tomorrow, I shal cause so severe a hail to fal as was never known inEgypt from the day of its foundation until now.	18 Pero mañana, a esta misma hora, haré caer sobre Egipto una terrible granizada, como no la hubo desde su fundación hasta el presente.
19 So now send word to have your livestock and everything else you own in the fields put under cover.On man or beast, al that happen to be in the fields and are not brought indoors, the hail will fal and they wildie." '	19 Por eso, ordena que pongan bajo techo tu ganado y todo lo que tengas al aire libre, porque todo lo que esté al aire libre, porque todo lo que esté al aire libre y no se encuentre bajo techo –sea hombre o animal– morirá víctima del granizo».
20 Those of Pharaoh's officials who respected what Yahweh said, brought their slaves and livestockindoors,	20 Algunos servidores del Faraón, atemorizados por la palabra del Señor, pusieron bajo techo a sus esclavos y su ganado;
21 but those who did not take to heart what Yahweh said left their slaves and livestock in the fields.	21 pero otros no hicieron caso de esta amenaza y dejaron en el campo a sus esclavos y su ganado.
22 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand towards heaven so that it hails throughout thewhole of Egypt, on man and beast and on everything growing anywhere in Egypt.'	22 Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: «Extiende tu mano hacia el cielo, y que caiga el granizo sobre la gente, los animales y la vegetación que crece en los campos, en todo el territorio de Egipto».
23 Moses stretched out his staff towards heaven, and Yahweh thundered and rained down hail. Lightningstruck the earth and Yahweh rained down hail on Egypt.	23 Moisés extendió su bastón hacia el cielo, y el Señor envió truenos y granizo. Cayeron rayos sobre la tierra, y el Señor hizo llover granizo sobre Egipto.
24 And so there was hail, and lightning accompanied the hail, very severe, such as had never beenknown anywhere in Egypt since it first became a nation.	24 El granizo y el fuego que formaba remolinos en medio de él, se precipitaron con tal violencia, que nunca hubo en Egipto nada semejante desde que comenzó a ser una nación.
25 Al over Egypt the hail struck down everything in the fields, man and beast, and the hail beat downeverything growing in the fields and shattered al the trees in the fields.	25 El granizo mató a todos los hombres y animales que se encontraban al aire libre en el territorio de Egipto, arrasó toda la vegetación de los campos y destrozó todos los árboles.
26 The only place where there was no hail was in the Goshen region, where the Israelites lived.	26 Sólo se libró el granizo la región de Gosen, donde habitaban los israelitas.
27 Pharaoh then sent for Moses and Aaron and said, 'This time, I have sinned. Yahweh is in the right; Iand my subjects are in the wrong.	27 El Faraón mandó llamar a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo: «Esta vez debo confesar mi pecado. El Señor tiene razón, mientras que yo y mi pueblo estamos equivocados.
28 Pray to Yahweh, for we cannot bear any more of this thunder and hail. I promise to let you go. Youneed stay no longer.'	28 Rueguen al Señor que haga cesar los truenos y el granizo, y yo los dejaré partir. Ya no tendrán que permanecer aquí más tiempo.
29 Moses said to him, 'The moment I leave the city I shal stretch out my hands to Yahweh. The thunderwil stop, and there wil be no more hail, so that you may know that the earth belongs to Yahweh.	29 Moisés respondió: «Apenas salga de la ciudad, extenderé mis manos al Señor, y cesarán los truenos y no habrá más granizo, para que sepas que la tierra pertenece al Señor.
30 But as for you and your officials, I know very wel that you stil have no respect for Yahweh God.'	30 Sin embargo, yo sé muy bien que ni tú ni tus servidores temen todavía al Señor Dios».
31 The flax and the barley were ruined, since the barley was in the ear and the flax in bud,	31 En aquella oportunidad fueron destruidos el lino y la cebada, porque la cebada ya había echado espigas, y el lino estaba florecido.
32 but the wheat and spelt were not destroyed, being late crops.	32 El trigo y la espelta, en cambio, como son tardíos, escaparon a la destrucción.
33 Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city. He stretched out his hands to Yahweh and the thunderand hail ceased and the rain stopped pouring down on the earth.	33 Después que se alejó del Faraón, Moisés salió de la ciudad y extendió sus manos al Señor. Entonces cesaron los truenos y el granizo, y no cayó más lluvia sobre la tierra.
34 When Pharaoh saw that rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he relapsed into sin,	34 Pero cuando el Faraón vio que la lluvia, el granizo y los truenos habían cesado, reincidió en su pecado y endureció su corazón, lo mismo que sus servidores.
35 and he and his officials became obstinate again. Pharaoh was stubborn and, as Yahweh had foretoldthrough Moses, refused to let the Israelites go.	35 El Faraón se obstinó y no dejó partir a los israelitas, como el Señor lo había predicho por medio de Moisés.
