Exodus 8

1 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to Aaron, "Stretch out your hand with your staff, over the rivers, thecanals and the marshland, and bring the frogs up over the land of Egypt." '	1 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés: «Di a Aarón: Extiende tu mano con tu cayado sobre los canales, sobre los ríos y sobre las lagunas, y haz que suban las ranas sobre la tierra de Egipto.»
2 So Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt, and the frogs came up and covered the landof Egypt.	2 Aarón extendió su mano sobre las aguas de Egipto; subieron la ranas y cubrieron la tierra de Egipto.
3 But by their spel s the magicians did the same, bringing frogs over the land of Egypt.	3 Pero los magos hicieron lo mismo con sus encantamientos, e hicieron subir las ranas sobre la tierra de Egipto.
4 Pharaoh then summoned Moses and Aaron and said, 'Entreat Yahweh to take the frogs away from meand my subjects, and I promise to let the people go and sacrifice to Yahweh.'	4 Faraón llamó a Moisés y a Aarón y dijo: «Pedid a Yahveh que aparte las ranas de mí y de mi pueblo, y yo dejaré salir al pueblo para que ofrezca sacrificios a Yahveh.»
5 Moses said to Pharaoh, 'You are the one to gain by it: when would you like me to pray for you, yourofficials and your subjects, so as to rid you and your houses of the frogs so that they wil be left only in theRiver?'	5 Respondió Moisés a Faraón: «Dígnate indicarme cuándo he de rogar por ti, por tus siervos y por tu pueblo, para que se alejen las ranas de ti y de tus casas, y queden solamente en el Río.»
6 'Tomorrow,' he said. Moses said, 'It shal be as you say, so that you wil know that there is no one likeYahweh our God.	6 «Mañana», contestó el. Replicó Moisés: «Será conforme a tu palabra, para que sepas que no hay como Yahveh, nuestro Dios.
7 The frogs wil leave you, your houses, your officials and your subjects and wil be left only in the River.'	7 Las ranas se apartarán de ti, de tus casas, de tus siervos y de tu pueblo, y quedarán sólo en el Río.»
8 Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh's presence, and Moses pleaded with Yahweh about the frogs which hehad inflicted on Pharaoh.	8 Salieron Moisés y Aarón de la presencia de Faraón, invocó Moisés a Yahveh acerca de las ranas que afligían a Faraón,
9 Yahweh did as Moses asked, and in house and courtyard and field the frogs died.	9 y Yahveh hizo lo que Moisés pedía: murieron las ranas de las casas, de los patios y de los campos.
10 They piled them up in heaps and the country stank.	10 Las juntaron en montones y el país apestaba.
11 But once Pharaoh saw that there had been a respite, he became obstinate and, as Yahweh hadforetold, refused to listen to them.	11 Pero Faraón viendo que tenía este respiro, endureció su corazón, y no les escuchó como había predicho Yahveh.
12 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Say to Aaron, "Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, andit wil turn into mosquitoes throughout the whole of Egypt." '	12 Dijo Yahveh a Moisés: «Di a Aarón: extiende tu cayado y golpea el polvo de la tierra que se convertirá en mosquitos sobre todo el país de Egipto.»
13 Aaron stretched out his hand, with his staff, and struck the dust of the earth, and there weremosquitoes on man and beast; al the dust of the earth turned into mosquitoes throughout the whole of Egypt.	13 Así lo hicieron: Aarón extendió su mano con el cayado y golpeó el polvo de la tierra; y hubo mosquitos sobre los hombres y sobre los ganados. Todo el polvo de la tierra se convirtió en mosquitos sobre todo el país de Egipto.
14 By their spel s the magicians tried to produce mosquitoes in the same way but failed, and there weremosquitoes on man and beast.	14 Los magos intentaron con sus encantamientos hacer salir mosquitos, pero no pudieron. Hubo, pues, mosquitos sobre hombres y ganados.
15 So the magicians said to Pharaoh, 'This is the finger of God.' But Pharaoh was obstinate and, asYahweh had foretold, refused to listen to them.	15 Dijeron los magos a Faraón: «¡es el dedo de Dios!» Pero el corazón de Faraón se endureció, y no les escuchó, como había dicho Yahveh.
16 Yahweh then said to Moses, 'Get up early in the morning and confront Pharaoh as he makes his wayto the water. Say to him, "Yahweh says this: Let my people go and worship me.	16 Yahveh dijo a Moisés: «Levántate muy de mañana, preséntate a Faraón cuando vaya a la ribera, y dile: Así dice Yahveh: “Deja salir a mi pueblo, para que me dé culto.”
17 But if you wil not let my people go, I shal send horseflies on you, on your officials, your subjects andyour houses. The Egyptians' houses wil swarm with horseflies, and so wil the very ground they stand on.	17 Si no dejas salir a mi pueblo, mira que voy a enviar tábanos contra ti, contra tus siervos, tu pueblo y tus casas, de manera que las casas de los egipcios y hasta el suelo sobre el cual están se llenarán de tábanos.
18 But I shal exempt the region of Goshen, where my people are living, that day; there will be nohorseflies there, so that you will know that I am Yahweh, here in this country.	18 Pero exceptuaré ese día la región de Gosen, donde está mi pueblo, para que no haya allí tábanos, a fin de que sepas que yo soy Yahveh en medio de la tierra;
19 I shal make a distinction between my people and your people. This sign wil take place tomorrow." '	19 haré distinción entre mi pueblo y el tuyo. Este prodigio sucederá mañana.»
20 Yahweh did this, and great swarms of horseflies found their way into Pharaoh's palace, into hisofficials' houses and al over Egypt; the country was ruined by the horseflies.	20 Así lo hizo Yahveh, y un enorme enjambre de tábanos vino sobre la casa de Faraón y la casas de sus siervos; y toda la tierra de Egipto; la tierra fue devastada por los tábanos.
21 Pharaoh then summoned Moses and Aaron and said, 'Go and sacrifice to your God, inside thecountry.'	21 Entonces llamó Faraón a Moisés y a Aarón y les dijo: «Id y ofreced sacrificios a vuestro Dios en este país.»
22 'That would never do,' Moses said, 'since what we sacrifice to Yahweh our God is outrageous to theEgyptians. If the Egyptians see us offering sacrifices which outrage them, won't they stone us?	22 Moisés respondió: «No conviene que se haga así, porque el sacrificio que ofrecemos a Yahveh, nuestro Dios, es abominación para los egipcios. ¿No nos apedrearían los egipcios si ofreciéramos ante sus ojos un sacrificio que para ellos es abominable?
23 We shal make a three-days' journey into the desert to sacrifice to Yahweh our God, as he has orderedus.'	23 Iremos tres jornadas de camino por el desierto, y allí ofreceremos sacrificios a Yahveh, nuestro Dios, según él nos ordena.»
24 Pharaoh said, 'I wil let you go and sacrifice to Yahweh your God in the desert, provided you do not govery far. Pray for me.'	24 Contestó Faraón: «Os dejaré ir, para que ofrezcáis en el desierto sacrificios a Yahveh, vuestro Dios, con tal que no vayáis demasiado lejos. Rogad por mí.»
25 'The moment I leave you,' Moses said, 'I shal pray to Yahweh. Tomorrow morning the horseflies willeave Pharaoh, his officials and his subjects. But Pharaoh must stop trifling with us by not al owing the people togo and sacrifice to Yahweh.'	25 Moisés respondió: «En cuanto salga rogaré a Yahveh, y mañana los tábanos se alejarán de Faraón, de sus siervos y de su pueblo; pero que no nos siga engañando Faraón, impidiendo que el pueblo vaya a ofrecer sacrificios a Yahveh.»
26 Moses then left Pharaoh's presence and prayed to Yahweh,	26 Salió, pues, Moisés de la presencia de Faraón, y rogó a Yahveh.
27 and Yahweh did as Moses asked; the horseflies left Pharaoh, his officials and his subjects; not oneremained.	27 Hizo Yahveh lo que Moisés pedía, y alejó los tábanos del Faraón, de sus siervos y de su pueblo, sin quedar ni uno.
28 But Pharaoh became obstinate this time too and did not let the people go.	28 Pero también esta vez endureció Faraón su corazón y no dejó salir al pueblo.
