Judith 9

NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Judith threw herself face to the ground, scattered ashes on her head, undressed as far as the sackclothshe was wearing and cried loudly to the Lord. At the same time in Jerusalem the evening incense was beingoffered in the Temple of God. Judith said:	1 Entonces Judit se postró en tierra, esparció ceniza sobre su cabeza, puso al descubierto el sayal con que estaba ceñida e imploró al Señor en alta voz. Era la hora en que se ofrecía en Jerusalén, en el Templo de Dios, el incienso de la tarde. Judit dijo:
2 Lord, God of my ancestor Simeon, you armed him with a sword to take vengeance on the foreigners whohad undone a virgin's belt to her shame, laid bare her thigh to her confusion, violated her womb to herdishonour, since, though you said, 'This must not be,' they did it.	2 «¡Señor, Dios de mi padre Simeón! Tú pusiste en sus manos una espada vengadora contra aquellos extranjeros que arrancaron el velo de una virgen para violarla, desnudaron su cuerpo para avergonzarla y profanaron su seno para deshonrarla. Aunque tú habías dicho: «Eso no se hará», ellos, sin embargo, lo hicieron.
3 For this you handed their leaders over to slaughter, and their bed, defiled by their treachery, was itselfbetrayed in blood. You struck the slaves with the chieftains and the chieftains with their retainers.	3 Por eso entregaste a sus jefes a la masacre, y así su lecho, envilecido por su engaño, también por un engaño quedó ensangrentado. Bajo tus golpes, cayeron muertos los esclavos con sus príncipes y los príncipes, sobre sus tronos.
4 You left their wives to be carried off, their daughters to be taken captive, and their spoils to be shared outamong the sons you loved, who had been so zealous for you, had loathed the stain put on their blood and cal edon you for help. O God, my God, now hear this widow too;	4 Tú entregaste sus mujeres al pillaje y sus hijas al cautiverio, y dejaste todos sus despojos para que fueran repartidos entre tus hijos predilectos, los cuales, enardecidos de celo por causa de ti y horrorizados por la mancha infligida a su propia sangre, habían invocado tu ayuda. ¡Dios, Dios mío, escucha ahora la plegaria de este viuda!
5 for you have made the past, and what is happening now, and what will fol ow. What is, what wil be, youhave planned; what has been, you designed.	5 Tú has hecho el pasado, el presente y el porvenir; tú decides los acontecimientos presentes y futuros, y sólo se realiza lo que tú has dispuesto.
6 Your purposes stood forward; 'See, here we are!' they said. For al your ways are prepared and yourjudgements delivered with foreknowledge.	6 Las cosas que tú has ordenado se presentan y exclaman: «¡Aquí estamos!». Porque tú preparas todos tus caminos, y tus juicios están previstos de antemano.
7 See the Assyrians, with their army abounding glorying in their horses and their riders, exulting in thestrength of their infantry. Trust as they may in shield and spear, in bow and sling, in you they have notrecognised the Lord, the breaker of battle-lines;	7 Mira que los asirios, colmados de poderío, se glorían de sus caballos y sus jinetes, se enorgullecen del vigor de sus soldados, confían en sus escudos y sus lanzas, en sus arcos y sus hondas, y no reconocen que tú eres el Señor, el que pone fin a las guerras.
8 yours alone is the title of Lord. Break their violence with your might, in your anger bring down theirstrength. For they plan to profane your holy places, to defile the tabernacle, the resting place of your gloriousname, and to hack down the horn of your altar.	8 ¡Tu nombre es «Señor»! Quebranta su fuerza con tu poder, aplasta su poderío con tu ira, porque se han propuesto profanar tu Santuario, manchar la Morada donde habita la Gloria de tu Nombre, y derribar tu altar a golpes de hierro.
9 Observe their arrogance, send your fury on their heads, give the strength I have in mind to this widow'shand.	9 Mira su arrogancia, descarga tu indignación sobre sus cabezas: concédeme, aunque no soy más que una viuda, la fuerza para cumplir mi cometido. Por medio de mis palabras seductoras
10 By guile of my lips strike down slave with master, and master with retainer. Break their pride by awoman's hand.	10 castiga al esclavo junto con su jefe y al jefe junto con su esclavo. ¡Abate su soberbia por la mano de una mujer!
11 Your strength does not lie in numbers, nor your might in strong men; since you are the God of thehumble, the help of the oppressed, the support of the weak, the refuge of the forsaken, the Saviour of thedespairing.	11 Porque tu fuerza no está en el número ni tu dominio en los fuertes, sino que tú eres el Dios de los humildes, el defensor de los desvalidos, el apoyo de los débiles, el refugio de los abandonados y el salvador de los desesperados.
12 Please, please, God of my father, God of the heritage of Israel, Master of heaven and earth, Creator ofthe waters, King of your whole creation, hear my prayer.	12 ¡Sí, Dios de mi padre y Dios de la herencia de Israel, Soberano del cielo y de la tierra, Creador de las aguas y Rey de toda la creación: escucha mi plegaria!
13 Give me a beguiling tongue to wound and kill those who have formed such cruel designs against yourcovenant, against your holy dwelling-place, against Mount Zion, against the house belonging to your sons.	13 Que mi palabra seductora se convierta en herida mortal para los que han maquinado un plan siniestro contra tu Alianza y tu Santa Morada, la cumbre de Sión y la Casa que es posesión de tus hijos.
14 And demonstrate to every nation, every tribe, that you are the Lord, God of al power, al might, and thatthe race of Israel has no protector but you.	14 ¡Que toda tu nación y cada una de sus tribus reconozcan que tú eres Dios, el Dios de toda fuerza y de todo poder, y que no hay otro protector fuera de ti para la estirpe de Israel!
