Judith 9

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Judith threw herself face to the ground, scattered ashes on her head, undressed as far as the sackclothshe was wearing and cried loudly to the Lord. At the same time in Jerusalem the evening incense was beingoffered in the Temple of God. Judith said:	1 Cayó Judit, rostro en tierra, echó ceniza sobre su cabeza, dejó ver el sayal que tenía puesto y, a la misma hora en que se ofrecía en Jerusalén, en la Casa de Dios, el incienso de aquella tarde, clamó al Señor en alta voz diciendo:
2 Lord, God of my ancestor Simeon, you armed him with a sword to take vengeance on the foreigners whohad undone a virgin's belt to her shame, laid bare her thigh to her confusion, violated her womb to herdishonour, since, though you said, 'This must not be,' they did it.	2 Señor, Dios de mi padre Simeón, a quien diste una espada para vengarse de extranjeros que habían soltado el ceñidor de una virgen para mancha, que desnudaron sus caderas para vergüenza y profanaron su seno para deshonor; pues tú dijiste: «Eso no se hace», y ellos lo hicieron.
3 For this you handed their leaders over to slaughter, and their bed, defiled by their treachery, was itselfbetrayed in blood. You struck the slaves with the chieftains and the chieftains with their retainers.	3 Por eso entregaste sus jefes a la muerte y su lecho, rojo de vergüenza por su engaño, lo dejaste engañado hasta la sangre. Castigaste a los esclavos con los príncipes, a los príncipes con los siervos.
4 You left their wives to be carried off, their daughters to be taken captive, and their spoils to be shared outamong the sons you loved, who had been so zealous for you, had loathed the stain put on their blood and cal edon you for help. O God, my God, now hear this widow too;	4 Entregaste al saqueo a sus mujeres, sus hijas al destierro, todos sus despojos en reparto para tus hijos amados, que se habían encendido de tu celo, y tuvieron horror a la mancha hecha a su sangre y te llamaron en su ayuda. ¡Oh Dios, mi Dios, escucha a esta viuda!
5 for you have made the past, and what is happening now, and what will fol ow. What is, what wil be, youhave planned; what has been, you designed.	5 Tú que hiciste las cosas pasadas, las de ahora y las venideras, que has pensado el presente y el futuro; y sólo sucede lo que tú dispones,
6 Your purposes stood forward; 'See, here we are!' they said. For al your ways are prepared and yourjudgements delivered with foreknowledge.	6 y tus designios se presentan y te dicen: «Aquí estamos!» Pues todos tus caminos están preparados y tus juicios de antemano previstos.
7 See the Assyrians, with their army abounding glorying in their horses and their riders, exulting in thestrength of their infantry. Trust as they may in shield and spear, in bow and sling, in you they have notrecognised the Lord, the breaker of battle-lines;	7 Mira, pues, a los asirios que juntan muchas fuerzas, orgullosos de sus caballos y jinetes, engreídos por la fuerza de sus infantes, fiados en sus escudos y en sus lanzas, en sus arcos y en sus hondas, y no han reconocido que tú eres el Señor, quebrantador de guerras.
8 yours alone is the title of Lord. Break their violence with your might, in your anger bring down theirstrength. For they plan to profane your holy places, to defile the tabernacle, the resting place of your gloriousname, and to hack down the horn of your altar.	8 Tu Nombre es «¡Señor!» ¡Quebranta su poder con tu fuerza! ¡Abate su poderío con tu cólera!, pues planean profanar tu santuario, manchar la Tienda en que reposa la Gloria de tu Nombre, y derribar con fuerza el cuerno de tu altar.
9 Observe their arrogance, send your fury on their heads, give the strength I have in mind to this widow'shand.	9 Mira su altivez, y suelta tu ira sobre sus cabezas; da a mi mano de viuda fuerza para lo que he proyectado.
10 By guile of my lips strike down slave with master, and master with retainer. Break their pride by awoman's hand.	10 Hiere al esclavo con el jefe, y al jefe con su siervo, por la astucia de mis labios. Abate su soberbia por mano de mujer.
11 Your strength does not lie in numbers, nor your might in strong men; since you are the God of thehumble, the help of the oppressed, the support of the weak, the refuge of the forsaken, the Saviour of thedespairing.	11 No está en el número tu fuerza, ni tu poder en los valientes, sino que eres el Dios de los humildes, el defensor de los pequeños, apoyo de los débiles, refugio de los desvalidos, salvador de los desesperados.
12 Please, please, God of my father, God of the heritage of Israel, Master of heaven and earth, Creator ofthe waters, King of your whole creation, hear my prayer.	12 ¡Sí, sí! Dios de mi padre y Dios de la herencia de Israel, Señor de los cielos y la tierra, Creador de las aguas, Rey de toda tu creación, ¡escucha mi plegaria!
13 Give me a beguiling tongue to wound and kill those who have formed such cruel designs against yourcovenant, against your holy dwelling-place, against Mount Zion, against the house belonging to your sons.	13 Dame una palabra seductora para herir y matar a los que traman duras decisiones contra tu alianza, contra tu santa Casa y contra el monte Sión y la casa propiedad de tus hijos.
14 And demonstrate to every nation, every tribe, that you are the Lord, God of al power, al might, and thatthe race of Israel has no protector but you.	14 Haz conocer a toda nación y toda tribu que tú eres Yahveh, Dios de todo poder y toda fuerza, y que no hay otro protector fuera de ti para la estirpe de Israel.
