NEW JERUSALEM	Menge Bibel
1 They therefore sent envoys to him to sue for peace, to say,	1 Da schickten sie Gesandte an ihn mit Friedensworten und ließen ihm sagen:
2 'We are servants of the great King Nebuchadnezzar; we lie prostrate before you. Treat us as you thinkfit.	2 »Wisse wohl: wir liegen vor dir als die Knechte des Großkönigs Nabuchodonosor, verfahre mit uns nach deinem Belieben!
3 Our cattle-farms, al our land, al our wheat fields, our flocks and herds, all the sheep-folds in ourencampments are at your disposal. Do with them as you please.	3 Wisse wohl: unsere Gehöfte und jeder Wohnort, alle unsere Weizenfelder, unser Kleinvieh und die Rinderherden und alle Hürden unserer Zelte sind in deiner Gewalt: verfahre damit nach deinem Belieben!
4 Our towns and their inhabitants too are at your service; go and treat them as you think fit.'	4 Wisse wohl: auch unsere Städte und deren Bewohner sind dir untertan; komm und behandle sie, wie es dir gut scheint!«
5 These men came to Holofernes and delivered the message as above.	5 Die Boten kamen zu Holofernes und überbrachten ihm diese Botschaft;
6 He then made his way down to the coast with his army and stationed garrisons in al the fortified towns,levying outstanding men there as auxiliaries.	6 da zog er mit seinem Heere an die Küste hinab, legte Besatzungen in die festen Plätze und hob auserlesene Mannschaften aus ihnen zum Eintritt in sein Heer aus.
7 The people of these cities and of al the other towns in the neighbourhood welcomed him, wearinggarlands and dancing to the sound of tambourines.	7 Die Bevölkerung und die ganze Umgegend hatte ihn mit Kränzen, Reigentänzen und Paukenschlag aufgenommen;
8 But he demolished their shrines and cut down their sacred trees, carrying out his commission to destroyal local gods so that the nations should worship Nebuchadnezzar alone and people of every language andnationality should hail him as a god.	8 er aber verwüstete ihr ganzes Gebiet und ließ ihre Haine umhauen; denn es war sein fester Entschluß, alle Götter der Erde auszurotten, damit alle Völker den Nabuchodenosor allein anbeteten und alle ihre Zungen und Geschlechter ihn als Gott anriefen.
9 Thus he reached the edge of Esdraelon, in the neighbourhood of Dothan, a vil age facing the great ridgeof Judaea.	9 So gelangte er nach Esdrelom in die Nähe von Dothea (= Dothan), das vor der großen Ebene von Judäa liegt;
10 He pitched camp between Geba and Scythopolis and stayed there a ful month to re-provision hisforces.	10 er bezog ein Lager zwischen Gabä und Skythopolis und blieb dort einen ganzen Monat lang, um alles Gepäck seines Heeres an sich zu ziehen.
