NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 They therefore sent envoys to him to sue for peace, to say,	1 Entonces le enviaron mensajeros con la siguiente propuesta de paz:
2 'We are servants of the great King Nebuchadnezzar; we lie prostrate before you. Treat us as you thinkfit.	2 «Aquí estamos los servidores del gran rey Nabucodonosor, rendidos ante ti: trátanos como mejor te parezca.
3 Our cattle-farms, al our land, al our wheat fields, our flocks and herds, all the sheep-folds in ourencampments are at your disposal. Do with them as you please.	3 Están a tu disposición nuestras posesiones, todo nuestro suelo, todos los campos de trigo, nuestras ovejas y nuestras vacas, y también todos los corrales de nuestros campamentos: puedes hacer con ellos lo que quieras.
4 Our towns and their inhabitants too are at your service; go and treat them as you think fit.'	4 Hasta nuestras mismas ciudades y sus habitantes están a tu servicio; ven y trátalas como te parezca».
5 These men came to Holofernes and delivered the message as above.	5 Aquellos hombres se presentaron ante Holofernes y le transmitieron su mensaje.
6 He then made his way down to the coast with his army and stationed garrisons in al the fortified towns,levying outstanding men there as auxiliaries.	6 El descendió con su ejército hacia la costa del mar, estableció guarniciones en las plazas fuertes y reclutó en ellas hombres selectos como tropas auxiliares.
7 The people of these cities and of al the other towns in the neighbourhood welcomed him, wearinggarlands and dancing to the sound of tambourines.	7 Ellos, y toda la región circunvecina, lo recibieron con guirnaldas y danzas corales al son de los tambores.
8 But he demolished their shrines and cut down their sacred trees, carrying out his commission to destroyal local gods so that the nations should worship Nebuchadnezzar alone and people of every language andnationality should hail him as a god.	8 Pero él devastó todo su territorio y taló sus bosques sagrados, porque había recibido la orden de exterminar a todos los dioses del país, para hacer que todas las naciones adoraran solamente a Nabucodonosor, y todas sus lenguas y tribus lo invocaron como dios.
9 Thus he reached the edge of Esdraelon, in the neighbourhood of Dothan, a vil age facing the great ridgeof Judaea.	9 Así llegó Holofernes a Esdrelón, en las inmediaciones de Dotaim, que está ante las montañas de Judea.
10 He pitched camp between Geba and Scythopolis and stayed there a ful month to re-provision hisforces.	10 Acampó entre Gueba y Escitópolis y permaneció allí un mes, a fin de reunir todos los efectivos de su ejército.
