NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Judith said, 'Listen to me, brothers. Take this head and hang it on your battlements.	1 Judit les dijo: «Escúchenme, hermanos; tomen esta cabeza y cuélguenla sobre las almenas de la muralla,
2 When morning comes and the sun is up, let every man take his arms and every able-bodied man leavethe town. Appoint a leader for them, as if you meant to march down to the plain against the Assyrian advancedpost. But you must not do this.	2 Después, cuando despunte el alba y se levante el sol sobre la tierra, cada uno de ustedes tomará sus armas de combate, y todos los que puedan hacerlo saldrán de la ciudad. Pónganles al frente un jefe como si fuera a descender a la llanura, hasta los puestos de avanzada de los asirios, pero no bajen.
3 The Assyrians wil gather up their equipment, make for their camp and wake up their commanders; theyin turn will rush to the tent of Holofernes and not be able to find him. They will then be seized with panic and fleeat your advance.	3 Ellos tomarán sus armas e irán al campamento a despertar a los jefes de su ejército. Estos, a su vez, se precipitarán hacia la carpa de Holofernes y, al no encontrarlo, quedarán aterrorizados y huirán delante de ustedes.

8 'Now tel me everything that you have done in these past few days.' 12 Seeing this, the Assyrians sent word to their leaders, who in turn reported to the generals, thecaptains of thousands and al the other officers;	12 Los asirios, al divisarlos, enviaron mensajeros a sus jefes; estos, a su vez, se dirigieron a los generales y capitanes y a todos sus oficiales.
13 and these in their turn reported to the tent of Holofernes. 'Rouse our master,' they said to his major-domo, 'these slaves have dared to march down on us to attack -- and to be wiped out to a man!'	13 Ellos llegaron a la carpa de Holofernes y dijeron a su mayordomo: «Despierta a nuestro señor, porque esos esclavos han tenido la audacia de bajar a combatir contra nosotros, para ser totalmente exterminados».
14 Bagoas went inside and struck the curtain dividing the tent, thinking that Holofernes was sleeping withJudith.	14 Bagoas entró y golpeó las manos ante la cortina de la carpa, suponiendo que Holofernes estaba acostado con Judit.
15 But as no one seemed to hear, he drew the curtain and went into the bedroom, to find him throwndown dead on the threshold, with his head cut off.	15 Como nadie respondía, descorrió la cortina, penetró en el dormitorio y lo encontró muerto, tendido sobre el umbral y decapitado.
16 He gave a great shout, wept, sobbed, shrieked and rent his clothes.	16 El lanzó un alarido, llorando y sollozando; y dando grandes gritos, desgarró sus vestiduras.
17 He then went into the tent which Judith had occupied and could not find her either. Then, rushing outto the men, he shouted,	17 Luego entró en la carpa donde se alojaba Judit, y al no encontrarla, se precipitó hacia la tropa, vociferando:
18 'The slaves have rebel ed! A single Hebrew woman has brought shame on the House ofNebuchadnezzar. Holofernes is lying dead on the ground, without his head!'	18 «¡Esos esclavos nos han traicionado! ¡Una mujer hebrea ha cubierto de vergüenza la casa de Nabucodonosor! ¡Miren cómo yace Holofernes, tendido en el suelo y sin cabeza!».
19 When they heard this, the leaders of the Assyrian army tore their tunics in consternation, and thecamp rang with their wild cries and their shouting.	19 Al oír estas palabras, los jefes del ejército asirio rasgaron sus túnicas, completamente desconcertados, y lanzaron grandes gritos y alaridos por todo el campamento.
