Nehemiah 11

NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 Now the leaders of the people took up residence in Jerusalem; so the rest of the people drew lots: oneman in ten was to come and live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the other nine were to stay in the townsoutside.	1 וישבו שרי העם בירושלם ושאר העם הפילו גורלות להביא אחד מן העשרה לשבת בירושלם עיר הקדש ותשע הידות בערים
2 The people praised al those who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.	2 ויברכו העם לכל האנשים המתנדבים לשבת בירושלם
3 In the towns of Judah each man lived on his own property, but these are the provincial leaders, theIsraelites, the priests, the Levites, the temple slaves and the descendants of Solomon's slaves, who made theirhomes in Jerusalem:	3 ואלה ראשי המדינה אשר ישבו בירושלם ובערי יהודה ישבו איש באחזתו בעריהם ישראל הכהנים והלוים והנתינים ובני עבדי שלמה
4 Of the sons of Judah and the sons of Benjamin who made their homes in Jerusalem there were: Ofthe sons of Judah: Athaiah son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son ofMehalalel, of the descendants of Perez;	4 ובירושלם ישבו מבני יהודה ומבני בנימן מבני יהודה עתיה בן עזיה בן זכריה בן אמריה בן שפטיה בן מהללאל מבני פרץ
5 and Maaseiah son of Baruch, son of Col-Hozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, descendant of Shelah.	5 ומעשיה בן ברוך בן כל חזה בן חזיה בן עדיה בן יויריב בן זכריה בן השלני
6 The total number of the descendants of Perez living in Jerusalem was four hundred and sixty-eightoutstanding people.	6 כל בני פרץ הישבים בירושלם ארבע מאות ששים ושמנה אנשי חיל
7 These are the sons of Benjamin: Sal u son of Meshullam, son of Joed, son of Pedaiah, son of Kolaiah,son of Maaseiah, son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah,	7 ואלה בני בנימן סלא בן משלם בן יועד בן פדיה בן קוליה בן מעשיה בן איתיאל בן ישעיה
8 and his brothers Gabbai and Sal ai; nine hundred and twenty-eight.	8 ואחריו גבי סלי תשע מאות עשרים ושמנה
9 Joel son of Zichri was their chief, and Judah son of Hassenuah was second in command of the city.	9 ויואל בן זכרי פקיד עליהם ויהודה בן הסנואה על העיר משנה
10 Of the priests there were Jedaiah son of Joiakim, son of	10 מן הכהנים ידעיה בן יויריב יכין
11 Seraiah, son of Hilkiah, son of Meshul am, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, the chief ofthe Temple of God,	11 שריה בן חלקיה בן משלם בן צדוק בן מריות בן אחיטוב נגד בית האלהים
12 and their kinsmen who performed the Temple liturgy: eight hundred and twenty-two; Adaiah son ofJeroham, son of Pelaliah, son of Amzi, son of Zechariah, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah,	12 ואחיהם עשי המלאכה לבית שמנה מאות עשרים ושנים ועדיה בן ירחם בן פלליה בן אמצי בן זכריה בן פשחור בן מלכיה
13 and his kinsfolk, heads of families: two hundred and forty-two; and Amashai son of Azarel, son ofAhzai, son of Meshil emoth, son of Immer,	13 ואחיו ראשים לאבות מאתים ארבעים ושנים ועמשסי בן עזראל בן אחזי בן משלמות בן אמר
14 and his kinsfolk, outstanding people: one hundred and twenty-eight. Their chief was Zabdiel son ofHaggadol.	14 ואחיהם גבורי חיל מאה עשרים ושמנה ופקיד עליהם זבדיאל בן הגדולים
15 Of the Levites there were Shemaiah son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, son ofBunni;	15 ומן הלוים שמעיה בן חשוב בן עזריקם בן חשביה בן בוני
16 Shabbethai and Jozabad, the levitical leaders responsible for work outside the Temple of God;	16 ושבתי ויוזבד על המלאכה החיצנה לבית האלהים מראשי הלוים
17 Mattaniah son of Mica, son of Zabdi, son of Asaph, who led the praises and intoned the thanksgivingassociated with the prayer, Bakbukiah being his junior col eague; and Obadiah son of Shammua, son of Galal,son of Jeduthun.	17 ומתניה בן מיכה בן זבדי בן אסף ראש התחלה יהודה לתפלה ובקבקיה משנה מאחיו ועבדא בן שמוע בן גלל בן ידיתון
18 The total number of Levites in the holy city was two hundred and eighty-four.	18 כל הלוים בעיר הקדש מאתים שמנים וארבעה
19 The gatekeepers: Akkub, Talmon and their kinsmen, who kept watch at the gates: one hundred andseventy-two.	19 והשוערים עקוב טלמון ואחיהם השמרים בשערים מאה שבעים ושנים
20 The rest of Israel, including the priests and Levites, made their homes throughout the towns ofJudah, each man on his own inheritance,	20 ושאר ישראל הכהנים הלוים בכל ערי יהודה איש בנחלתו
21 The temple slaves lived on Ophel; Ziha and Gishpa were in charge of the temple slaves.	21 והנתינים ישבים בעפל וציחא וגשפא על הנתינים
22 The official in charge of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi son of Bani, son of Hashabiah, son ofMattaniah, son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, who led the singing in the liturgy of the Temple of God;	22 ופקיד הלוים בירושלם עזי בן בני בן חשביה בן מתניה בן מיכא מבני אסף המשררים לנגד מלאכת בית האלהים
23 for the singers were under royal orders, with regulations laying down what was required of them dayby day.	23 כי מצות המלך עליהם ואמנה על המשררים דבר יום ביומו
24 Petahiah son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah son of Judah, was the king's minister for almatters connected with the people.	24 ופתחיה בן משיזבאל מבני זרח בן יהודה ליד המלך לכל דבר לעם
25 and in the vil ages near their lands. Some of the sons of Judah made their homes in Kiriath-Arba andits dependencies, Dibon and its dependencies, Jekabzeel and its dependencies,	25 ואל החצרים בשדתם מבני יהודה ישבו בקרית הארבע ובנתיה ובדיבן ובנתיה וביקבצאל וחצריה
26 Jeshua, Moladah, Beth-Pelet,	26 ובישוע ובמולדה ובבית פלט
27 Hazar-Shual, Beersheba and its dependencies,	27 ובחצר שועל ובבאר שבע ובנתיה
28 Ziklag, Meconah and its dependencies,	28 ובצקלג ובמכנה ובבנתיה
29 En-Rimmon, Zorah, Jarmuth,	29 ובעין רמון ובצרעה ובירמות
30 Zanoah, Adullam and their vil ages, Lachish and its lands, and Azekah and its dependencies; thus,they settled from Beersheba as far as the Val ey of Hinnom.	30 זנח עדלם וחצריהם לכיש ושדתיה עזקה ובנתיה ויחנו מבאר שבע עד גיא הנם
31 And some Benjaminites made their homes in Geba, Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its dependencies,	31 ובני בנימן מגבע מכמש ועיה ובית אל ובנתיה
32 Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah,	32 ענתות נב ענניה
33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim,	33 חצור רמה גתים
34 Hadid, Zeboim, Nebal at,	34 חדיד צבעים נבלט
35 Lod, Ono and the Valley of Craftsmen.	35 לד ואונו גי החרשים
36 Some levitical groups lived in Judah, some in Benjamin.	36 ומן הלוים מחלקות יהודה לבנימין
