15 I assembled them near the canal which runs to Ahava, where we camped for three days. I noticedlaymen and priests, but I could not discover any Levites there.	15 Io li radunai presso il fiume che scorre verso Ahava, ove ci fermammo tre giorni, e cercai tra il popolo e tra i sacerdoti qualcuno dei figli di Levi, senza trovarne uno.
16 I then sent for Eliezer, Ariel, Shemaiah, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zechariah and Meshullam,judicious men,	16 Allora mandai i principi Eliezer, Ariel, Semeia, Elnatan, Iarib e un altro Elnatan, Natan, Zaccaria, Mosollam, e i sapienti Ioiarib e Elnatan,
17 and sent them to Iddo, the leading man of a place cal ed Casiphia; I told them what they were to say toIddo and his kinsmen, living at the place cal ed Casiphia, that is, to provide us with people to serve the Temple ofour God.	17 e li mandai a trovare Eddo, capo nel luogo di Casfìa e posi nella loro bocca le parole che do vevan dire a Eddo e ai suoi fra telli Natinei del luogo di Casfìa, affinchè ci menassero dei ministri della casa del nostro Dio.
18 And because the hand of God was good to us, they sent us a wise man of the sons of Mahli son ofLevi, son of Israel, a certain Sherebiah with his sons and kinsmen: eighteen men;	18 Per la mano del nostro Dio favorevole verso di noi, ci menarono un uomo dottissimo dei figli di Moholi, figlio di Levi, figlio d'Israele, e Sarabia coi suoi figli e i suoi fratelli in numero di diciotto,
19 also Hashabiah and with him his brother Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari with his kinsmen and sons:twenty men;	19 e Asabia, e con lui Isaia dei figli di Merari coi suoi figli e i suoi fratelli in numero di venti,

21 There, beside the Ahava Canal, I then proclaimed a fast, to humble ourselves before our God and topray to him for a successful journey for us, our dependants and all our belongings.	21 Là presso il fiume Ahava intimai un digiuno, per affliggerci dinanzi al Signore Dio nostro e chiedergli un prospero viaggio per noi, per i nostri figli e per tutte le nostre cose.
22 For I should have been ashamed to ask the king for a company of cavalry to protect us from hostilepeople on our road, as we had already said to the king, 'The hand of our God is over al who seek him for theirprotection, but his mighty retribution befal s al those who forsake him.'	22 Siccome io m'ero vergognato di chiedere al re dell'aiuto di soldati a cavallo per difenderci nel viaggio dal nemico, avendo noi detto al re: « La mano del nostro Dio è sopra tutti quelli che lo cercano con sincerità, e il suo impero, la sua forza, il suo furore sopra tutti quelli che lo abbandonano »,
23 So we fasted and pleaded with our God about this, and he heard us.	23 per questo digiunammo invocando il nostro Dio, e ci andò prospera mente.
24 I next chose twelve of the leading priests, and also Sherebiah and Hashabiah with ten of their kinsmen.	24 Scelti dodici principi dei sacerdoti, Sarabia, Asabia e con essi dieci dei loro fratelli,
25 To them I weighed out the silver, the gold and the utensils, the contributions which the king, hiscounsel ors, his notables and al the Israelites there present had made for the Temple of our God.	25 pesai loro l'argento e l'oro ed i vasi consacrati della casa del nostro Dio, offerti dal re, dai suoi consiglieri, dai suoi principi e da tutti gl'israeliti che si eran trovati,
26 To them I weighed out and handed over six hundred and fifty talents of silver, one hundred utensils ofsilver valued at two talents, one hundred talents of gold,	26 e pesai nelle loro mani seicento cinquanta talenti d'argento, cento vasi d'argento e cento talenti d'oro;
27 twenty golden bowls valued at a thousand darics and two utensils of fine burnished copper as preciousas gold.	27 venti coppe d'oro che pesavano mille dramme; due vasi di rame lucente e finissimo, belli come l'oro.
28 I said to them, 'You are consecrated to Yahweh; these utensils are consecrated too; the silver and gold are a voluntary offering to Yahweh, God of your ancestors.	28 E dissi loro: « Voi siete consacrati al Signore e sacri sono i vasi d'argento, e l'oro offerto spontaneamente al Signore Dio dei padri nostri.
29 Guard them carefully until you weigh them out to the leading priests, the Levites, and the heads offamilies of Israel in Jerusalem in the rooms of the Temple of Yahweh.'	29 State attenti e custoditeli, finché non fi pesiate davanti ai principi dei sacerdoti e dei leviti, e ai capi delle famiglie d'Israele in Gerusalemme, per il tesoro della casa di Dio ».
30 The priests and Levites then took charge of the silver, the gold and the utensils thus weighed, to bringthem to Jerusalem to the Temple of our God.	30 I sacerdoti ed i leviti ricevettero pesati l'argento, l'oro e i vasi, per portarli a Gerusalemme nella casa del nostro Dio.
31 On the twelfth day of the first month we left the Ahava Canal to make our way to Jerusalem; the handof our God was over us and protected us from enemies and surprise attacks on our way.	31 Partimmo dunque dal fiume Ahava ai dodici del primo mese per recarci a Gerusalemme, e la mano del nostro Dio fu su di noi e ci liberò dalla mano del nemico e da chi tende va insidie per via.
32 When we arrived in Jerusalem, we rested for three days.	32 Arrivati a Gerusalemme ci riposammo tre giorni.
33 On the fourth day the silver, the gold and the utensils were weighed in the Temple of our God andhanded over to the priest Meremoth son of Uriah and, with him, Eleazar son of Phinehas; with them were theLevites Jozabad son of Jeshua and Noadiah son of Binnui.	33 Il quarto giorno fu pesato l'argento, l'oro e i vasi della casa del nostro Dio da Meremot figlio di Uria, sacerdote; con lui era Eleazaro figlio di Finees, con Iozabed figlio di Iosue, Noadaia figlio di Bennoi, leviti.
34 By number and weight al was there. The total weight was recorded at the same time.	34 Numerata e pesata ogni cosa, fu poi registrato tutto il peso.
35 When the exiles arrived from their captivity, they offered burnt offerings to the God of Israel -- twelvebulls on behalf of all Israel, ninety-six rams, seventy-two lambs, and as a sin offering twelve he-goats: the wholeof this as a burnt offering to Yahweh.	35 I figli della trasmigrazione dopo ritornati dalla cattività offersero olocausti al Dio d'Israele: dodici vitelli per tutto il popolo d'Israele; novantasei montoni, settantasette agnelli, dodici capri per il peccato: tutto questo in olocausto al Signore.
36 They also delivered the king's instructions to the king's satraps and the governors of Transeuphrates,who then supported the people and the Temple of God.	36 Presentarono gii editti del re ai satrapi che erano presso il re, e ai governatori d'oltre il fiume, i quali esaltarono il popolo e la casa di Dio.
