Ezra 5

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 When the prophets Haggai and Zechariah son of Iddo prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah andJerusalem in the name of the God of Israel who was over them,	1 Intanto i profeti Aggeo e Zaccaria, figlio di Iddo, profetarono ai Giudei in Giuda e a Gerusalemme nel nome del Dio d'Israele che era su di loro.
2 Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Jeshua son of Jozadak began rebuilding the Temple of God inJerusalem; with them were the prophets of God, supporting them.	2 Si alzarono allora Zorobabele, figlio di Sealtiel, e Giosuè, figlio di Iozadak, e cominciarono a costruire il tempio di Dio a Gerusalemme; con essi erano i profeti di Dio, che li sostenevano.
3 It was then that Tattenai governor of Transeuphrates, Shethar-Bozenai and their associates came tothem and asked, 'Who gave you the order to rebuild this Temple and complete this structure?	3 Vennero in quel tempo da loro Tattènai, governatore dell'Oltrefiume, Setar Boznai e i loro colleghi e parlarono ad essi così: "Chi vi ha dato ordine di edificare questo tempio e costruire queste mura?
4 What are the names of the men putting up this building?'	4 Chi sono e come si chiamano gli uomini che alzano questo edificio?".
5 But the eyes of their God were watching over the elders of the Jews, so they were not forced to stopuntil a report could reach Darius and an official reply about the matter could be received from him.	5 Ma sopra gli anziani dei Giudei era lo sguardo del loro Dio. Quelli non li fecero smettere fino a che non si fosse inviato un rapporto a Dario e si fosse avuta una risposta in merito.
6 A copy of the letter which Tattenai, governor of Transeuphrates, Shethar-Bozenai and his associates,the officials in Transeuphrates, sent to King Darius.	6 Copia della lettera che Tattènai, governatore dell'Oltrefiume, Setar Boznai e i loro colleghi, gli ispettori che sono nell'Oltrefiume, inviarono al re Dario.
7 They sent him a report which ran as fol ows: 'To King Darius, hearty greetings!	7 Gli inviarono un rapporto in cui era scritto: "Al re Dario salute perfetta!
8 'The king should be informed that we went to the province of Judah, to the Temple of the great God,which is being rebuilt with large stones; beams are being embedded in the walls; the work is being carried outenergetical y and is making good progress.	8 Sia noto al re che noi siamo andati nella provincia di Giuda, al tempio del grande Dio. Questo si sta edificando con blocchi di pietra e legname alle pareti. Il lavoro viene svolto con cura e procede bene tra le loro mani.
9 Questioning these elders, we asked them, "Who gave you permission to rebuild this Temple andcomplete this structure?"	9 Noi abbiamo interrogato quegli anziani e abbiamo domandato ad essi: "Chi vi ha dato ordine di edificare questo tempio e costruire queste mura?".
10 We also asked them their names, to inform you, so that we could record the names of the men whowere their leaders.	10 Abbiamo anche chiesto ad essi i loro nomi per farteli conoscere, scrivendo il nome degli uomini che sono loro a capo.
11 'They gave us the fol owing answer, "We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth; we arerebuilding the Temple built many years ago, which a great king of Israel had built and completed.	11 Ecco l'informazione che ci hanno dato: "Noi siamo i servi del Dio del cielo e della terra ed edifichiamo il tempio che nel passato era rimasto in piedi per lunghi anni. Un grande re d'Israele l'aveva alzato e adornato.
12 But because our ancestors angered the God of heaven, he handed them over to Nebuchadnezzar theChaldaean king of Babylon who destroyed this Temple and deported the people to Babylon.	12 Ma da quando i nostri padri provocarono l'ira del Dio del cielo, egli li abbandonò in mano di Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, il caldeo. Egli distrusse questo tempio e deportò il popolo a Babilonia.
13 In the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, however, King Cyrus issued an official order that this Templeof God should be rebuilt;	13 Però nel primo anno di Ciro, re di Babilonia, il re Ciro dette ordine di edificare questa casa di Dio.
14 furthermore, those gold and silver articles belonging to the Temple of God, which Nebuchadnezzar hadremoved from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to the temple of Babylon, King Cyrus in turn removed fromthe temple of Babylon and handed back to a certain Sheshbazzar whom he had appointed governor.	14 Anche gli utensili in oro e argento della casa di Dio, che Nabucodònosor aveva tolto dal tempio di Gerusalemme e portato al tempio di Babilonia, il re Ciro fece togliere dal tempio di Babilonia e consegnare a uno di nome Sesbassar, che aveva costituito governatore,
15 He said to him, 'Take these articles; go and return them to the Temple which is in Jerusalem and letthe Temple of God be rebuilt on its original site;'	15 dicendogli: `Prendi questi utensili, va', portali al tempio di Gerusalemme. E il tempio di Dio venga riedificato nel suo luogo'.
16 this Sheshbazzar then came and laid the foundations of the Temple of God in Jerusalem, and it hasbeen under construction ever since, and is not yet finished."	16 Allora questo Sesbassar venne e pose le fondamenta della casa di Dio a Gerusalemme. Ebbene, da allora sino ad oggi essa si va costruendo, ma non è ancora terminata".
17 'Hence, if it please the king, let search be made in the royal treasuries in Babylon, to find out if it is truethat an official order was issued by King Cyrus for this temple of God in Jerusalem to be rebuilt; and let the king'sdecision on this matter be sent to us.'	17 Pertanto, se così piace al re, si facciano ricerche nell'archivio reale a Babilonia, se per caso sia stato dato un ordine, da parte del re Ciro, perché fosse costruita questa casa di Dio a Gerusalemme. E la volontà del re in proposito la si faccia pervenire a noi".
