1 The queen of Sheba heard of Solomon's fame and came to Jerusalem to test Solomon with difficultquestions, with a very large retinue with camels laden with spices and an immense quantity of gold and preciousstones. Having reached Solomon, she discussed everything that she had in mind with him,	1 Or la regina di Saba, udita la fama di Salomone, venne a Gerusalemme per metterlo alla prova con enimmi. Essa aveva seco grandi ricchezze e cammelli che portavano aromi, moltissimo oro e gemme preziose. Giunta da Salomone, gli parlò di tutto ciò che aveva nel suo cuore.
2 and Solomon had an answer for al her questions; not one of them was too obscure for Solomon toanswer for her.	2 E Salomone le spiegò tutto ciò che essa propose, e non restò nulla ch'egli non sapesse spiegare a lei.
3 When the queen of Sheba saw how wise Solomon was, the palace which he had built,	3 Essa, quando ebbe veduto la sapienza di Salomone, la casa da lui edificata,
4 the food at his table, the accommodation for his officials, the organisation of his staff and the way theywere dressed, his cupbearers and the way they were dressed, and the burnt offerings, which he made in theTemple of Yahweh, it left her breathless,	4 le vivande della sua mensa, le abitazioni dei suoi servi, gli uffici dei suoi ministri e le loro vesti, i coppieri e i loro abiti, e le vittime che egli immolava nella casa del Signore, dalla maraviglia restò senza fiato.

6 Until I came and saw for myself, I did not believe the reports, but clearly I was told less than half aboutthe true extent of your wisdom. You surpass what was reported to me.	6 Io non potevo credere a chi me ne parlava, finché non son venuta da me a vedere coi miei occhi e a provare che appena la metà della tua sapienza m'era stata riferita: tu hai colle tue virtù superata la fama.
7 How fortunate your people are! How fortunate your courtiers, continually in attendance on you andlistening to your wisdom!	7 Beata la tua gente, e beati i tuoi servi che stanno sempre dinanzi a te e ascoltano la tua sapienza!
8 Blessed be Yahweh your God. Because your God loved Israel and meant to keep it secure for ever, hehas made you its king to administer law and justice.'	8 Sia benedetto il Signore Dio tuo che ha voluto collocarti sul suo trono, a regnare in luogo del Signore Dio tuo. Perchè Dio ama Israele e vuole conservarlo in eterno, per questo ti ha stabilito re sopra di esso, affinchè tu renda ragione e faccia giustizia ».
9 And she presented the king with a hundred and twenty talents of gold and great quantities of spicesand precious stones. There never were such spices as those which the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.	9 La regina di Saba diede al re centoventi talenti d'oro e grandissima quantità d'aromi e gemme preziosissime; non vi furon mai aromi come quelli dati dalla regina di Saba al re Salomone.
10 Similarly, the men employed by Huram and the men employed by Solomon, who brought the goldfrom Ophir, also brought back algum wood and precious stones.	10 I servi di Hiram coi servi di Salomone portarono da Ofir oro, legno di timo e gemme preziose.
11 Of the algum wood the king made steps for the Temple of Yahweh and for the royal palace, and harpsand lyres for the musicians, the like of which had never before been seen in Judah.	11 Con questo legno di timo il re fece fare degli scalini nella casa del Signore, e delle cetre e dei salteri per i cantori: non si vide mai tal sorta di legno nel paese di Giuda.
12 And King Solomon, in his turn, presented the queen of Sheba with everything that she expressed awish for, besides what he gave her in exchange for what she had brought to the king. After which, she wenthome to her own country, she and her servants.	12 Il re Salomone diede al­la regina di Saba tutto ciò che essa bramò e richiese, e molto più di quello che essa gli aveva portato. E la regina se ne andò e tornò nel suo regno coi suoi servi.
13 The weight of the gold received annually by Solomon amounted to six hundred and sixty-six talents ofgold,	13 Il peso dell'oro portato a Salomone ogni anno era di seicento sessantasei talenti d'oro,
14 besides what tol s and foreign trade brought in; all the Arab kings and the provincial governors alsobrought gold and silver to Solomon.	14 senza la somma che solevan portare i legati di varie nazioni, i mercanti, tutti i re dell'Arabia, e i satrapi delle provincie, i quali portavano oro e argento a Salomone.
15 King Solomon made two hundred great shields of beaten gold, six hundred shekels of beaten goldgoing into one shield;	15 Il re Salomone fece inoltre duecento lance d'oro, del valore di seicento sicli d'oro che si spendevano per ciascuna lancia.
16 also three hundred smal shields of beaten gold, three hundred shekels of gold going into one shield;and the king put these into the House of the Forest of Lebanon.	16 Ed anche trecento scudi d'oro, ciascuno dei quali era coperto di trecento sicli d'oro. Il re li ripose nell'arsenale che era situato nel bosco.
17 The king also made a great ivory throne which he overlaid with refined gold.	17 Il re fece inoltre un gran trono di avorio, rivestito d'oro finissimo,
18 The throne had six steps with a golden foot-rest attached to the throne, and arms on each side of theseat and two lions standing beside the arms,	18 e sei gradini pei qua­li si saliva al trono, una predella d'oro, due bracci che sporgevano da un lato e dall'altro, due leoni presso i bracci,
19 and twelve lions stood on either side of the six steps. Nothing like it had ever been made in any otherkingdom.	19 altri dodici leoncini sopra i sei gradini di qua e di là. Non vi fu mai un simil trono in alcun regno.
20 Al King Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and al the plate in the House of the Forest ofLebanon was of pure gold; silver was little thought of in Solomon's days,	20 Eran d'oro anche tutti i vasi della mensa del re, e i vasi della casa del Bosco del Libano eran d'oro finissimo. Dell'argento non si faceva alcun conto a quel tempo,
21 since the king's ships went to Tarshish with Huram's employees, and once every three years themerchantmen would come back laden with gold and silver, ivory, apes and baboons.	21 perchè le navi del re andavano una volta ogni tre anni coi servi di Hiram a Tarsis, e di là portavan oro, argento, avorio, scimmie e pavoni.
22 For riches and for wisdom, King Solomon surpassed al kings on earth,	22 Così Salomone sorpassò tutti i re della terra in ricchezze e in gloria.
23 and al the kings in the world consulted Solomon to hear the wisdom which God had implanted in hisheart,	23 E tutti i re della terra desideravano di vedere la faccia di Salomone, per ascoltare la sapienza che Dio aveva messa nel suo cuore,
24 and everyone would bring a present with him: objects of silver and of gold, robes, armour, spices,horses and mules; and this went on year after year.	24 e gli portavano ogni anno doni, vasi d'oro e d'argento, vestiti, armi, aromi, cavalli e muli.
25 Solomon also had four thousand stal s for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand cavalrymen;these he stationed in the chariot towns and near the king in Jerusalem.	25 Salomone ebbe quaranta mila cavalli nelle stalle, dodici mila cocchi, dodici mila cavalieri, e li stanziò nelle città dei cocchi e dov'era il re in Gerusalemme.
26 He was overlord of all the kings from the River to the territory of the Philistines and the Egyptianborder.	26 Egli signoreggiò su tutti i re dal fiume Eufrate sino alla terra dei Filistei e sino ai confini d'Egitto.
27 In Jerusalem the king made silver as common as stones, and cedar wood as plentiful as sycamore inthe Lowlands.	27 Egli fece abbondare l'argento in Gerusalemme come le pietre, i cedri come i sicomori che nascon nelle pianure.

31 When Solomon fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of his father David; Rehoboamhis son succeeded him.	31 E si addormentò coi suoi padri; fu sepolto nella città di David, e gli successe nel regno Roboamo suo figlio.
