1 The queen of Sheba heard of Solomon's fame and came to Jerusalem to test Solomon with difficultquestions, with a very large retinue with camels laden with spices and an immense quantity of gold and preciousstones. Having reached Solomon, she discussed everything that she had in mind with him,	1 - Anche la regina di Saba, avendo udito la rinomanza di Salomone, venne a Gerusalemme per metterlo alla prova con ardui quesiti. Aveva con sè grandi ricchezze e cammelli, che portavano aromi e gran quantità di oro e di gemme preziose. Venuta da Salomone, gli espose quanto aveva in animo,
2 and Solomon had an answer for al her questions; not one of them was too obscure for Solomon toanswer for her.	2 e Salomone le spiegò tutto ciò che gli era stato proposto; e non vi fu cosa che non le risultasse ben chiara.
3 When the queen of Sheba saw how wise Solomon was, the palace which he had built,	3 La regina, avendo visto la sapienza di Salomone, il palazzo da lui edificato,
4 the food at his table, the accommodation for his officials, the organisation of his staff and the way theywere dressed, his cupbearers and the way they were dressed, and the burnt offerings, which he made in theTemple of Yahweh, it left her breathless,	4 come pure i cibi della sua mensa, le abitazioni dei suoi servi, i vari uffici dei ministri di lui e le loro vesti, i coppieri e le loro vesti, le vittime, che immolava nella casa del Signore, non poteva più stare in sè per l'ammirazione,
5 and she said to the king, 'The report I heard in my own country about you and about your wisdom inhandling your affairs was true, then!	5 e rivolta al re gli disse: «È vero tutto ciò che ho inteso nel mio paese, delle tue virtù e della sapienza tua.
6 Until I came and saw for myself, I did not believe the reports, but clearly I was told less than half aboutthe true extent of your wisdom. You surpass what was reported to me.	6 Io non credeva a chi me ne parlava, finchè io stessa non son venuta per vedere co' miei propri occhi ed ho constatato che neppure la metà della tua sapienza, mi era stata descritta. Colle tue virtù hai superata la fama.
7 How fortunate your people are! How fortunate your courtiers, continually in attendance on you andlistening to your wisdom!	7 Beati i tuoi uomini, e beati i servi tuoi, che ti stanno sempre accanto e che ascoltano la tua sapienza.
8 Blessed be Yahweh your God. Because your God loved Israel and meant to keep it secure for ever, hehas made you its king to administer law and justice.'	8 Sia benedetto il Signore Dio tuo, che volle porti sul trono suo, quale re del Signore Dio tuo. Perchè Dio ama Israele, e vuol conservarlo in eterno; per questo ti collocò re sopra di lui, perchè tu renda ragione e faccia giustizia».
9 And she presented the king with a hundred and twenty talents of gold and great quantities of spicesand precious stones. There never were such spices as those which the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.	9 Consegnò poi al re centoventi talenti d'oro e una quantità enorme di aromi e di pietre preziose. Non vi furono mai aromi simili a quelli che diede la regina di Saba al re Salomone.
10 Similarly, the men employed by Huram and the men employed by Solomon, who brought the goldfrom Ophir, also brought back algum wood and precious stones.	10 Anche i servi di Iram, coi servi di Salomone, portarono da Ofir oro e legname di sandalo e gemme preziose.
11 Of the algum wood the king made steps for the Temple of Yahweh and for the royal palace, and harpsand lyres for the musicians, the like of which had never before been seen in Judah.	11 Di questo, vale a dire del legname di sandalo il re fece i gradini nella casa del Signore, e nel palazzo reale, e di più cetre e salterii per cantori. Un legno siffatto non fu mai visto nella terra di Giuda.
12 And King Solomon, in his turn, presented the queen of Sheba with everything that she expressed awish for, besides what he gave her in exchange for what she had brought to the king. After which, she wenthome to her own country, she and her servants.	12 Il re Salomone diede alla regina di Saba tutto ciò che essa bramò e chiese e in misura molto maggiore di ciò che essa aveva portato a lui. Così essa fece ritorno insieme ai suoi servi al suo paese.
13 The weight of the gold received annually by Solomon amounted to six hundred and sixty-six talents ofgold,	13 Il peso dell'oro, che veniva portato ogni anno a Salomone, ammontava a seicentosessantasei talenti d'oro,
14 besides what tol s and foreign trade brought in; all the Arab kings and the provincial governors alsobrought gold and silver to Solomon.	14 non computando la somma d'oro e d'argento, che gli ambasciatori dei vari popoli e i negozianti, nonchè tutti i re d'Arabia e i satrapi dei vari paesi solevano portare a Salomone.
15 King Solomon made two hundred great shields of beaten gold, six hundred shekels of beaten goldgoing into one shield;	15 Il re Salomone fece quindi fare duecento aste d'oro, del valore ciascuna di seicento monete d'oro;
16 also three hundred smal shields of beaten gold, three hundred shekels of gold going into one shield;and the king put these into the House of the Forest of Lebanon.	16 poi trecento scudi d'oro del valore di trecento monete d'oro, coi quali furono coperti i singoli scudi e li pose nel suo arsenale, che era situato nella foresta.
17 The king also made a great ivory throne which he overlaid with refined gold.	17 Fece ancora un trono grande d'avorio e lo rivestì d'oro purissimo.
18 The throne had six steps with a golden foot-rest attached to the throne, and arms on each side of theseat and two lions standing beside the arms,	18 Fece anche i sei gradini, coi quali si saliva al trono e uno sgabello d'oro e due bracciuoli da ciascuna parte del seggio e due leoni presso i bracciuoli,
19 and twelve lions stood on either side of the six steps. Nothing like it had ever been made in any otherkingdom.	19 e altri dodici leoncini, sopra i sei gradini, da una parte e dall'altra. Non vi fu trono somigliante in nessuno dei regni.
20 Al King Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and al the plate in the House of the Forest ofLebanon was of pure gold; silver was little thought of in Solomon's days,	20 Anche tutti i vasi della mensa del re eran d'oro e i vasi della casa del bosco del Libano erano tutti d'oro purissimo. A quel tempo non si faceva nessun conto dell'argento,
21 since the king's ships went to Tarshish with Huram's employees, and once every three years themerchantmen would come back laden with gold and silver, ivory, apes and baboons.	21 poichè le navi del re se ne andavano coi servi di Iram ogni tre anni a Tarsis, donde portavano oro, argento, avorio, scimmie e pavoni.
22 For riches and for wisdom, King Solomon surpassed al kings on earth,	22 Il re Salomone fu il più grande di tutti i re della terra, per le ricchezze e la gloria;
23 and al the kings in the world consulted Solomon to hear the wisdom which God had implanted in hisheart,	23 e tutti i re della terra desideravano di vedere la faccia di Salomone, per udire la sapienza, che Dio gli aveva infuso nell'anima;
24 and everyone would bring a present with him: objects of silver and of gold, robes, armour, spices,horses and mules; and this went on year after year.	24 e gli portavano in regalo vasi d'argento e d'oro, vesti, armi, aromi, cavalli e muli, ogni anno.
25 Solomon also had four thousand stal s for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand cavalrymen;these he stationed in the chariot towns and near the king in Jerusalem.	25 Ebbe ancora Salomone quarantamila cavalli nelle sue stalle, e dodicimila cocchi e cavalieri, da lui distribuiti nelle città dei cocchi ed in Gerusalemme, dove abitava il re.
26 He was overlord of all the kings from the River to the territory of the Philistines and the Egyptianborder.	26 Egli esercitò il suo potere sopra tutti i re dal fiume Eufrate fino alla terra dei Filistei e fino ai confini dell'Egitto
27 In Jerusalem the king made silver as common as stones, and cedar wood as plentiful as sycamore inthe Lowlands.	27 e fece abbondare l'argento in Gerusalemme, come le pietre; e il legno di cedro, come quello dei sicomori, che crescono nella pianura.
28 Horses were imported for Solomon from Muzur and all the other countries too.	28 Erano a lui condotti dei cavalli dall'Egitto e da tutte le regioni.
29 The rest of the history of Solomon, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records ofNathan the prophet, in the Prophecy of Ahijah of Shiloh, and in the Vision of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboamson of Nebat?	29 Il rimanente delle opere di Salomone, tanto le prime, che le ultime, sono descritte nel libro di Natan profeta, in quello di Aia Silonita, e nella visione del veggente Addo, contro Geroboamo figliuolo di Nabat.
30 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel for forty years.	30 Salomone regnò in Gerusalemme sopra tutto Israele quarant'anni
31 When Solomon fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of his father David; Rehoboamhis son succeeded him.	31 e si addormentò co' padri suoi e fu sepolto nella città di Davide. A lui successe Roboamo, figliuol suo.
