1 The queen of Sheba heard of Solomon's fame and came to Jerusalem to test Solomon with difficultquestions, with a very large retinue with camels laden with spices and an immense quantity of gold and preciousstones. Having reached Solomon, she discussed everything that she had in mind with him,	1 Ma la regina di Saba avendo udita la rinomanza di Salomone, venne a Gerusalemme per far saggio di lui per mezzo di ardui quesiti, avendo seco grandi ricchezze, e de' cammelli, che portavano aromati, e moltissimo oro, e gemme preziose. E giunta che fu dinanzi a Salomone, espose a lui tutto quello, che aveva in cuore.
2 and Solomon had an answer for al her questions; not one of them was too obscure for Solomon toanswer for her.	2 E Salomone le diede risposta sopra tutto quello, che ella gli propose: e nissuna cosa fu, ch'ei non le discifrasse.
3 When the queen of Sheba saw how wise Solomon was, the palace which he had built,	3 Or quando ella ebbe conosciuta la sapienza di Salomone, e veduta la casa fabbricata da lui,
4 the food at his table, the accommodation for his officials, the organisation of his staff and the way theywere dressed, his cupbearers and the way they were dressed, and the burnt offerings, which he made in theTemple of Yahweh, it left her breathless,	4 E in qual modo egli era servito alla mensa, e le abitazioni de suoi cortigiani, e gli ufficj de' ministri, e le loro vestimenta, e i coppieri co' loro abiti, e le vittime, che s'immolavano nella casa del Signore, ella si rimanea senza fiato:
5 and she said to the king, 'The report I heard in my own country about you and about your wisdom inhandling your affairs was true, then!	5 E disse al re: Vero è quello, che io avea sentito dire nel mio paese di tue virtù, e di tua sapienza.
6 Until I came and saw for myself, I did not believe the reports, but clearly I was told less than half aboutthe true extent of your wisdom. You surpass what was reported to me.	6 Io non prestava fede a chi ne parlava, sino a tanto che io son venuta, e ho veduto co' proprj occhi, e ho toccato con mano, che la metà appena era stata a me descritta di tua sapienza: tu hai colle tue virtù superata la fama.
7 How fortunate your people are! How fortunate your courtiers, continually in attendance on you andlistening to your wisdom!	7 Beata la tua gente, e beati i tuoi servi, che stanno sempre dintorno a te, e ascoltano la tua sapienza.
8 Blessed be Yahweh your God. Because your God loved Israel and meant to keep it secure for ever, hehas made you its king to administer law and justice.'	8 Benedetto sia il Signore Dio tuo, il quale ti ha collocato sul suo trono a regnare in luogo del Signore Dio tuo. Perchè Dio ama Israele, e vuol conservarlo in eterno; per questo egli ha dato te a lui per suo re, affinchè tu renda ragione, e facci giustizia.
9 And she presented the king with a hundred and twenty talents of gold and great quantities of spicesand precious stones. There never were such spices as those which the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.	9 Or ella diede al re cento venti talenti d'oro, e quantità grandissima d'aromi, e gemme di sommo pregio. Non vi furon mai tali aromi, come quelli, che diede la regina di Saba al re Salomone.
10 Similarly, the men employed by Huram and the men employed by Solomon, who brought the goldfrom Ophir, also brought back algum wood and precious stones.	10 E anche i servi di Hiram co' servi di Salomone portaron dell'oro da Ophir, e legname di tyno, e gemme preziosissime:
11 Of the algum wood the king made steps for the Temple of Yahweh and for the royal palace, and harpsand lyres for the musicians, the like of which had never before been seen in Judah.	11 Del qual legname di tyno il re fece fare le scale nella casa del Signore, e nella casa reale, e le cetre, e i salteri pei cantori: non si vide mai tal sorta di legname nel paese di Giuda.
12 And King Solomon, in his turn, presented the queen of Sheba with everything that she expressed awish for, besides what he gave her in exchange for what she had brought to the king. After which, she wenthome to her own country, she and her servants.	12 E il re Salomone diede alla regina di Saba tutto quello, che ella bramò, o richiese, e molto più di quello,che ella avea portato a lui: ed ella se n' andò, e tornò nel suo regno co' suoi servi.
13 The weight of the gold received annually by Solomon amounted to six hundred and sixty-six talents ofgold,	13 Or l'oro, che veniva portato anno per anno a Salomone, faceva il peso di secento sessantasei talenti d'oro:
14 besides what tol s and foreign trade brought in; all the Arab kings and the provincial governors alsobrought gold and silver to Solomon.	14 Senza metter in conto le somme, che solevan portare i deputati di varie nazioni, e i mercatanti, e tutti i re dell'Arabia, e i satrapi delle provincie, i quali recavano a Salomone, dell'oro, e dell'argento.
15 King Solomon made two hundred great shields of beaten gold, six hundred shekels of beaten goldgoing into one shield;	15 Quindi il re Salomone fece dugento picche d'oro, delle quali ciascuna costava il peso di seicento sicli d'oro.
16 also three hundred smal shields of beaten gold, three hundred shekels of gold going into one shield;and the king put these into the House of the Forest of Lebanon.	16 E parimente trecento rotelle d'oro, delle quali ognuna si copriva contrecento sicli d'oro: e il re le ripose nell'arsenale, che era situato nel bosco.
17 The king also made a great ivory throne which he overlaid with refined gold.	17 Fece ancora il re un gran trono d'avorio: e lo rivestì d'oro finissimo.
18 The throne had six steps with a golden foot-rest attached to the throne, and arms on each side of theseat and two lions standing beside the arms,	18 E i sei gradini, pe' quali si saliva al trono, e la predella d'oro con due bracci, che sporgevano da un lato, e dall'altro, e due leoni presso ai bracci.
19 and twelve lions stood on either side of the six steps. Nothing like it had ever been made in any otherkingdom.	19 E oltre a ciò dodici altri lioncini, che stavan ritti sopra i sei gradini dall'un lato, e dall'altro: non ebbe simil trono verun altro dei regni.
20 Al King Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and al the plate in the House of the Forest ofLebanon was of pure gold; silver was little thought of in Solomon's days,	20 Tutti parimente i vasi della mensa del re erano d'oro, e i vasi della casa del bosco del Libano eran di finissimo moro. Conciossiachè l'argento a quel tempo non si aveva in nissun pregio.
21 since the king's ships went to Tarshish with Huram's employees, and once every three years themerchantmen would come back laden with gold and silver, ivory, apes and baboons.	21 Perocché le navi del re andavano a Tharsis una volta ogni tre anni co' servi di Hiram: e di la portavano oro, e argento, e avorio, e scimmie, e pavoni.
22 For riches and for wisdom, King Solomon surpassed al kings on earth,	22 Salomone adunque superò tutti i re della terra in grandezza, in ricchezze, e in gloria.
23 and al the kings in the world consulted Solomon to hear the wisdom which God had implanted in hisheart,	23 E tutti i re della terra desideravano di vedere la faccia di Salomone, per ascoltare la sapienza, che Dio avea messa nel cuore di lui:
24 and everyone would bring a present with him: objects of silver and of gold, robes, armour, spices,horses and mules; and this went on year after year.	24 E gli portavano ogni anno doni, e vasi d'oro, e d'argento, e vestimenta, e armi, e aromi, e cavalli, e muli.
25 Solomon also had four thousand stal s for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand cavalrymen;these he stationed in the chariot towns and near the king in Jerusalem.	25 E Salomone ebbe nelle sue stalle quaranta mila cavalli, e dodici mila cocchi, e dodici mila cavalieri, e li teneva nelle città dei cocchi, e in Gerusalemme, dove egli dimorava.
26 He was overlord of all the kings from the River to the territory of the Philistines and the Egyptianborder.	26 Ed egli fu l'arbitro di tutti i re dal fiume Eufrate sino alla terra dei Filistei, e sino ai confini d'Egitto.
27 In Jerusalem the king made silver as common as stones, and cedar wood as plentiful as sycamore inthe Lowlands.	27 E fece abbondare l'argento in Gerusalemme come le pietre; e i cedri, come i fichi salvatichi, che nascon pei piani.
28 Horses were imported for Solomon from Muzur and all the other countries too.	28 E dall'Egitto, e da tutti gli altri paesi erano condotti a lui de' cavalli.
29 The rest of the history of Solomon, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records ofNathan the prophet, in the Prophecy of Ahijah of Shiloh, and in the Vision of Iddo the seer concerning Jeroboamson of Nebat?	29 Il rimanente noi delle geste di Salomone le prime, e le ultime sono scritte ne' libri di Nathan profeta, e ne' libri di Ahia Silonita, e anche nella visione di Addo, che profetò contro Geroboam figliuolo di Nabath.
30 Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel for forty years.	30 Or Salomone regnò in Gerusalemme sopra tutto Israele anni quaranta.
31 When Solomon fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of his father David; Rehoboamhis son succeeded him.	31 E si addormentò co' padri suoi, e lo seppellirono nella città di David: e Roboam suo figliuolo gli succedette nel regno.
