NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Then Solomon said: Yahweh has chosen to dwel in thick cloud,	1 Allora Salomone disse: "Il Signore ha deciso di abitare nella nube.
2 and I have built you a princely dwel ing, a residence for you for ever.	2 Io ti ho costruito una dimora sublime, un luogo ove tu possa abitare in eterno".
3 Then the king turned round and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while the whole assembly ofIsrael stood.	3 Il re si volse e benedisse tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, mentre tutta l'assemblea d'Israele stava in piedi.
4 He said, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who has carried out by his hand what he promisedverbally to my father David, when he said,	4 Disse: "Benedetto sia il Signore, Dio d'Israele, che con la sua potenza ha compiuto quanto con la sua bocca ha promesso a Davide, padre mio:
5 "From the day I brought my people out of Egypt I chose no city, in any of the tribes of Israel, to have atemple built where my name should be, nor did I choose anyone to be prince of my people Israel;	5 "Dal giorno in cui feci uscire il mio popolo dal paese d'Egitto, non ho scelto alcuna città fra tutte le tribù d'Israele perché si edificasse un tempio in cui abitasse il mio nome e non ho scelto nessuno perché diventasse capo del mio popolo d'Israele,
6 but I did choose Jerusalem for my name to be there, and I did choose David to rule my people Israel."	6 ma ho scelto Gerusalemme perché vi abitasse il mio nome e ho scelto Davide perché governi il mio popolo d'Israele".
7 My father David had set his heart on building a temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	7 Ora Davide, mio padre, aveva in animo di edificare un tempio al nome del Signore, Dio d'Israele,
8 but Yahweh said to my father David, "You have set your heart on building a temple for my name, and inthis you have done wel ;	8 ma il Signore disse a Davide, padre mio: "Hai avuto in animo di edificare un tempio al mio nome, hai fatto bene ad avere questa intenzione;
9 and yet, you are not the man to build the temple; but your son, yet to be born to you, wil be the one tobuild the temple for my name."	9 ma non sarai tu a edificare il tempio, bensì il figlio tuo, che uscirà dai tuoi lombi; sarà lui che edificherà un tempio al mio nome".
10 Yahweh has kept the promise which he made: I have succeeded my father David and am seated onthe throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised; I have built the temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	10 Il Signore ha pertanto attuato la promessa che aveva fatto; io sono succeduto a Davide, mio padre, mi sono seduto sul trono d'Israele, come aveva preannunciato il Signore, e ho edificato il tempio al nome del Signore, Dio d'Israele.
11 and I have placed in it the ark containing the covenant of Yahweh, which he made with the Israelites.'	11 Ivi ho collocato l'arca, dove è l'alleanza che il Signore ha concluso con gli Israeliti".
12 Then in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, he stood facing the altar of Yahweh andstretched out his hands-	12 Poi, stando davanti all'altare del Signore al cospetto di tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, distese le mani.
13 for Solomon had made a bronze platform, five cubits long, five cubits wide and five cubits high, whichhe had placed in the middle of the court and on which he was standing; he knelt down in front of the wholeassembly of Israel, stretched out his hands to heaven-	13 Salomone infatti aveva eretto una tribuna di bronzo e l'aveva posta in mezzo al cortile. Era lunga cinque cubiti, larga cinque e alta tre. Egli salì sopra di essa e, inginocchiatosi al cospetto di tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo
14 and said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven or on earth, you who are loyal tothe covenant and show faithful love to your servants as long as they walk wholeheartedly in your way.	14 e disse: "Signore, Dio d'Israele, non c'è nessun Dio come te né in cielo né sulla terra. Tu mantieni l'alleanza e la benevolenza verso i tuoi servi che camminano al tuo cospetto con tutto il cuore.
15 You have kept it with your servant, my father David, as you promised him you would. What youpromised verbally today you have carried out by your hand.	15 Tu hai mantenuto riguardo al tuo servo Davide, mio padre, ciò che gli avevi promesso; quanto avevi promesso con la bocca l'hai adempiuto con la tua potenza come si vede oggi.
16 And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep the promise which you made to your servant David when yousaid, "You wil never lack for a man to sit in my presence before me on the throne of Israel, provided that yoursons are careful how they behave, fol owing my law as you yourself have done."	16 E ora, Signore, Dio d'Israele, mantieni riguardo al tuo servo Davide, mio padre, quanto gli hai promesso dicendo: "Non ti mancherà mai un discendente che stia al mio cospetto e sieda sul trono d'Israele, purché i tuoi figli conservino la loro via camminando secondo la mia legge, come tu hai fatto al mio cospetto".
17 So now, God of Israel, let the words come true which you spoke to your servant, my father David.	17 Ora dunque, Signore, Dio d'Israele, si adempia la parola che hai rivolto al tuo servo Davide!
18 Yet wil God real y live with the people on earth? Why, the heavens and the heavens of the heavenscannot contain you! How much less this temple built by me!	18 Ma è proprio vero che Dio abita con gli uomini sulla terra? Ecco, i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non ti possono contenere, quanto meno questa casa che ho edificato!
19 Even so, listen favourably to the prayer and entreaty of your servant, Yahweh my God; listen to the cryand to the prayer which your servant makes to you:	19 Volgiti, tuttavia, o Signore, mio Dio, alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplica; ascolta il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo innalza al tuo cospetto.
20 Day and night, may your eyes watch over this temple, over this place in which you have promised toput your name. Listen to the prayer which your servant offers in this place.	20 Siano i tuoi occhi aperti verso questa casa giorno e notte, verso il luogo in cui hai detto di voler porre il tuo nome per ascoltare la preghiera che il tuo servo ti rivolge in questo luogo.
21 'Listen to the entreaties of your servant and of your people Israel; whenever they pray in this place,listen from the place where you reside in heaven; and when you hear, forgive.	21 Ascolta le suppliche del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele, quando pregheranno in questo luogo! Tu ascolta dal luogo della tua dimora, dal cielo, ascolta e perdona!
22 'If someone has wronged his neighbour and a curse is laid on him to make him swear here beforeyour altar in this Temple,	22 Se qualcuno pecca contro il suo prossimo e gli viene imposto un giuramento di maledizione e questi si presenta a giurare davanti al tuo altare, in questo tempio,
23 then listen from heaven and do justice between your servants, paying back the guilty one by makinghim suffer for his conduct, and acquitting the upright by rewarding him as his uprightness deserves.	23 tu ascoltalo dal cielo e agisci; fa' giustizia tra i tuoi servi, ripaga il colpevole facendo ricadere sul suo capo la sua condotta e dichiara innocente il giusto trattandolo secondo la sua giustizia.
24 'If your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against you, but thenreturn to you and acknowledge your name, and pray and seek your favour in this temple,	24 Quando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto dal nemico per aver peccato contro di te, se si converte, loda il tuo nome, prega e supplica al tuo cospetto in questo tempio,
25 then listen from heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them back to the countrywhich you gave to them and their ancestors.	25 tu ascolta dal cielo, perdona il peccato del tuo popolo Israele e fallo ritornare nel paese che desti loro e ai loro padri.
26 'When the heavens are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray inthis place and praise your name and, having been humbled by you, desist from their sin,	26 Quando si chiuderà il cielo e non vi sarà pioggia, perché hanno peccato contro di te, se ti pregano in questo luogo e lodano il tuo nome, si ravvedono dal loro peccato, perché tu li hai umiliati,
27 then listen from heaven and forgive the sin of your servant and of your people Israel -- for you areconstantly showing them the good way which they must fol ow -- and send rain on your country, which you havegiven to your people as their heritage.	27 tu ascolta dal cielo e perdona il peccato dei tuoi servi e del tuo popolo Israele, insegnando loro la strada buona per la quale camminare, concedi la pioggia alla tua terra, che hai dato in eredità al tuo popolo.
28 'Should there be famine in the country, or pestilence, wind-blast or mildew, locust or caterpil ar; shouldtheir enemy lay siege to their territory; should there be any plague or any disease;	28 Quando nel paese vi sarà carestia, quando vi sarà peste, siccità o ruggine, cavallette o bruchi, quando il nemico stringerà d'assedio il tuo popolo in una delle sue porte, in ogni calamità e in ogni epidemia,
29 whatever be the prayer or entreaty of any individual, or of al your people Israel, each being aware ofhis own affliction and pain; when he stretches out his hands towards this Temple,	29 ogni preghiera, ogni supplica che qualsiasi individuo e tutto il tuo popolo Israele farà, dopo aver fatto l'esperienza del castigo e del dolore, stendendo le mani verso questo tempio,
30 then listen from heaven where you reside; forgive and, since you know what is in his heart, deal witheach as his conduct deserves -- for you alone know what is in the human heart-	30 tu ascolta dal cielo, luogo della tua dimora, perdona e ricompensa ognuno secondo la sua condotta, tu che ne conosci il cuore, poiché tu solo conosci il cuore dei figli degli uomini.
31 so that they may revere you by following your directions, which you gave to our ancestors, throughouttheir lives on earth.	31 Fa' sì che ti temano e camminino nelle tue vie durante tutti i giorni della loro vita sulla faccia della terra che hai dato ai nostri padri.
32 'Even the foreigner, not belonging to your people Israel but coming from a distant country, attracted byyour great name, your mighty hand and outstretched arm, if he comes and prays in this Temple,	32 Anche lo straniero che non appartiene al tuo popolo Israele, se viene da un paese lontano a causa del tuo grande nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio spiegato, se viene a pregare in questo tempio,
33 then listen from heaven where you reside, and grant al that the foreigner asks of you, so that al thepeoples of the earth may acknowledge your name and, like your people Israel, revere you, and know that thisTemple, which I have built, bears your name.	33 tu ascolta dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora e fa' secondo tutto quello che ti chiederà lo straniero, perché tutti i popoli della terra riconoscano il tuo nome, ti temano come il tuo popolo Israele e sappiano che il tuo nome è stato invocato su questo tempio che io ho edificato.
34 'If your people go out to war against their enemies, on whatever mission you send them, and they prayto you, turning towards this city which you have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for yourname,	34 Quando il tuo popolo uscirà in guerra contro i suoi nemici seguendo la via sulla quale lo avrai diretto, se ti pregano rivolti verso questa città che hai scelto e verso il tempio che ho edificato al tuo nome,
35 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their entreaty, and uphold their cause.	35 ascolta dal cielo la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e fa' loro giustizia.
36 'When they sin against you -- for there is no one who does not sin -- and you are angry with them andabandon them to the enemy, and their captors carry them off to a country be it far away or near,	36 Quando peccheranno contro di te, poiché non c'è nessuno che non pecchi, e tu, adirato contro di loro, li consegnerai al nemico e i loro conquistatori li deporteranno in un paese lontano o vicino,
37 if they come to their senses in the country to which they have been taken as captives and pray to youonce again in the country of their captivity, saying, "We have sinned, we have acted wrongly and wickedly,"	37 se nel paese in cui saranno stati deportati rientrano in se stessi, si convertono e ti supplicano nel paese della loro prigionia dicendo: "Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito iniquamente, abbiamo commesso empietà",
38 and turn back to you with al their heart and soul in the country of their captivity to which they havebeen carried away as captives, and pray, turning towards the country which you gave to their ancestors, towardsthe city you have chosen, and towards the Temple which I have built for your name,	38 se dunque si convertono a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima nel paese della loro prigionia nel quale li avranno deportati, e ti supplicano rivolti verso la loro terra che tu hai dato ai loro padri, verso la città che hai scelto e il tempio che ho edificato al tuo nome,
39 then listen from heaven where you reside, hear their prayer and entreaties, uphold their cause andforgive your people for having sinned against you.	39 ascolta dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora la loro preghiera e le loro suppliche, rendi loro giustizia e perdona il tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te.
40 'Now, O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to prayer offered in this place.	40 Ora, o Dio mio, siano i tuoi occhi aperti e le tue orecchie intente alla preghiera innalzata in questo luogo.
41 And now Yahweh God, go up to your resting-place, you and your fortress, the Ark! Let your priests,Yahweh God, be robed in salvation, let your faithful rejoice in what is good!	41 Ora, lèvati, o Signore Dio, verso il luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l'arca della tua potenza. I tuoi sacerdoti, o Signore Dio, si rivestano di salvezza e i tuoi fedeli esultino nel bene!
42 Yahweh God, do not rebuff your Anointed -- remember the faithful love of your servant David!'	42 Signore Dio, non respingere la faccia del tuo consacrato, ricordati i favori concessi a Davide tuo servo".
