NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLES DES PEUPLES
1 Then Solomon said: Yahweh has chosen to dwel in thick cloud,	1 Alors Salomon dit: “Yahvé a choisi de vivre dans la nuée obscure.
2 and I have built you a princely dwel ing, a residence for you for ever.	2 Oui! Je t’ai construit une demeure, un Temple, un lieu où tu habiteras à jamais!”
3 Then the king turned round and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while the whole assembly ofIsrael stood.	3 Puis le roi se tourna pour bénir toute l’assemblée d’Israël qui se tenait là.
4 He said, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who has carried out by his hand what he promisedverbally to my father David, when he said,	4 Il dit: “Béni soit Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, car il vient de réaliser ce qu’il avait dit à David mon père:
5 "From the day I brought my people out of Egypt I chose no city, in any of the tribes of Israel, to have atemple built where my name should be, nor did I choose anyone to be prince of my people Israel;	5 Depuis le jour où j’ai fait sortir mon peuple d’Égypte, je n’ai choisi aucune ville sur la terre d’Israël pour y bâtir la Maison où serait mon Nom, et je n’ai choisi personne pour être le chef de mon peuple Israël.
6 but I did choose Jerusalem for my name to be there, and I did choose David to rule my people Israel."	6 Mais j’ai choisi Jérusalem pour être le lieu où sera mon Nom, et David comme chef de mon peuple!
7 My father David had set his heart on building a temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	7 Mon père David voulait construire un Temple pour le Nom de Yahvé, le Dieu d’Israël,
8 but Yahweh said to my father David, "You have set your heart on building a temple for my name, and inthis you have done wel ;	8 mais Yahvé a dit à mon père: Tu voulais construire un Temple pour mon Nom: c’était très bien!
9 and yet, you are not the man to build the temple; but your son, yet to be born to you, wil be the one tobuild the temple for my name."	9 Cependant, ce n’est pas toi qui construira la Maison, mais ton fils né de toi: lui me construira une Maison.
10 Yahweh has kept the promise which he made: I have succeeded my father David and am seated onthe throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised; I have built the temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	10 Yahvé a réalisé ce qu’il avait dit: j’ai succédé à David, mon père, et je me suis assis sur le trône d’Israël selon la promesse de Yahvé. J’ai construit une Maison pour le Nom de Yahvé Dieu d’Israël,
11 and I have placed in it the ark containing the covenant of Yahweh, which he made with the Israelites.'	11 et j’y ai placé l’Arche qui renferme l’Alliance que Yahvé a faite avec le peuple d’Israël.”
12 Then in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, he stood facing the altar of Yahweh andstretched out his hands-	12 Alors, debout devant l’autel de Yahvé, en présence de toute l’assemblée d’Israël, Salomon étendit les mains.
13 for Solomon had made a bronze platform, five cubits long, five cubits wide and five cubits high, whichhe had placed in the middle of the court and on which he was standing; he knelt down in front of the wholeassembly of Israel, stretched out his hands to heaven-	13 Salomon avait fait une tribune de bronze et l’avait placée au milieu de la cour: elle mesurait cinq coudées de long, cinq de large, et trois de haut. Monté sur la tribune, Salomon s’agenouilla devant toute l’assemblée d’Israël: il étendit ses mains vers le ciel
14 and said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven or on earth, you who are loyal tothe covenant and show faithful love to your servants as long as they walk wholeheartedly in your way.	14 et dit: “Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, ni au ciel, ni sur la terre il n’y a de Dieu comme toi. Tu es fidèle à ton Alliance et tu te montres plein de bonté envers tes serviteurs quand ils vivent en t’obéissant de tout leur cœur.
15 You have kept it with your servant, my father David, as you promised him you would. What youpromised verbally today you have carried out by your hand.	15 Tu as tenu la promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur David, mon père, aujourd’hui ta main a réalisé ce que tu avais promis en paroles.
16 And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep the promise which you made to your servant David when yousaid, "You wil never lack for a man to sit in my presence before me on the throne of Israel, provided that yoursons are careful how they behave, fol owing my law as you yourself have done."	16 Maintenant, Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, tiens la promesse que tu as faite à ton serviteur David quand tu lui as dit: Si tes fils sont attentifs à leur conduite et suivent ma Loi comme toi-même l’as fait, toujours il y aura quelqu’un de ta descendance pour régner sur Israël.
17 So now, God of Israel, let the words come true which you spoke to your servant, my father David.	17 “Maintenant, Yahvé Dieu d’Israël, que se vérifie la parole que tu as dite à ton serviteur David!
18 Yet wil God real y live with the people on earth? Why, the heavens and the heavens of the heavenscannot contain you! How much less this temple built by me!	18 Serait-ce vrai que Dieu habite avec l’homme sur la terre? Les cieux et les cieux des cieux ne peuvent te contenir, bien moins encore cette maison que j’ai construite!
19 Even so, listen favourably to the prayer and entreaty of your servant, Yahweh my God; listen to the cryand to the prayer which your servant makes to you:	19 Écoute cependant la prière et la supplication de ton serviteur! Yahvé, mon Dieu, entends le cri et la prière que ton serviteur te présente.
20 Day and night, may your eyes watch over this temple, over this place in which you have promised toput your name. Listen to the prayer which your servant offers in this place.	20 Que tes yeux soient ouverts jour et nuit sur cette Maison, sur ce lieu où tu as promis de mettre ton Nom. Écoute la prière que ton serviteur fait monter en ce lieu;
21 'Listen to the entreaties of your servant and of your people Israel; whenever they pray in this place,listen from the place where you reside in heaven; and when you hear, forgive.	21 écoute les supplications que ton serviteur et ton peuple Israël t’adresseront en ce lieu; du lieu de ta Demeure, des cieux, écoute et pardonne.
22 'If someone has wronged his neighbour and a curse is laid on him to make him swear here beforeyour altar in this Temple,	22 Si quelqu’un pèche contre son frère et qu’on l’oblige à prêter un serment solennel, lorsqu’il viendra prêter ce serment devant ton autel, dans cette maison,
23 then listen from heaven and do justice between your servants, paying back the guilty one by makinghim suffer for his conduct, and acquitting the upright by rewarding him as his uprightness deserves.	23 écoute-le du haut des cieux, agis et juge tes serviteurs: condamne le coupable en faisant retomber sa conduite sur sa tête, mais fais voir l’innocence du juste et traite-le selon sa justice.
24 'If your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against you, but thenreturn to you and acknowledge your name, and pray and seek your favour in this temple,	24 Lorsque ton peuple Israël aura péché contre toi et qu’il sera battu devant l’ennemi, s’il se repent et loue ton Nom,
25 then listen from heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them back to the countrywhich you gave to them and their ancestors.	25 écoute-le du haut des cieux, pardonne le péché de ton peuple Israël et ramène-le vers le pays que tu as donné, à lui et à ses pères.
26 'When the heavens are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray inthis place and praise your name and, having been humbled by you, desist from their sin,	26 Lorsque ton peuple aura péché contre toi et que le ciel retiendra la pluie, s’il vient prier dans ce lieu, s’il célèbre ton Nom, s’il renonce au péché pour lequel tu l’auras humilié,
27 then listen from heaven and forgive the sin of your servant and of your people Israel -- for you areconstantly showing them the good way which they must fol ow -- and send rain on your country, which you havegiven to your people as their heritage.	27 toi, écoute du haut des cieux, pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple Israël. Montre-leur le bon chemin qu’ils doivent suivre et envoie la pluie sur la terre que tu as donnée à ton peuple en héritage.
28 'Should there be famine in the country, or pestilence, wind-blast or mildew, locust or caterpil ar; shouldtheir enemy lay siege to their territory; should there be any plague or any disease;	28 “Lorsqu’il y aura dans le pays une famine, une peste, un fléau ou une catastrophe, sauterelles ou criquets, lorsque son ennemi l’assiégera dans l’une de ses villes, lorsqu’il y aura une épidémie ou une maladie -
29 whatever be the prayer or entreaty of any individual, or of al your people Israel, each being aware ofhis own affliction and pain; when he stretches out his hands towards this Temple,	29 quelle que soit la prière de qui que ce soit ou de tout ton peuple, lorsqu’ils se voient dans la douleur ou la détresse et tendent les mains vers cette Maison,
30 then listen from heaven where you reside; forgive and, since you know what is in his heart, deal witheach as his conduct deserves -- for you alone know what is in the human heart-	30 écoute du haut des cieux où tu habites et pardonne; toi qui connais leurs cœurs - puisque toi seul connais le cœur des fils d’Adam - traite chacun selon sa conduite.
31 so that they may revere you by following your directions, which you gave to our ancestors, throughouttheir lives on earth.	31 Ainsi tous te craindront et marcheront dans tes chemins tous les jours de leur vie, sur cette terre que tu as donnée à nos pères.
32 'Even the foreigner, not belonging to your people Israel but coming from a distant country, attracted byyour great name, your mighty hand and outstretched arm, if he comes and prays in this Temple,	32 “Un étranger, qui n’est pas de ton peuple Israël, pourrait venir d’un pays lointain à cause de ta grande renommée, de ta main puissante et de tes grandes interventions. S’il vient prier dans cette Maison,
33 then listen from heaven where you reside, and grant al that the foreigner asks of you, so that al thepeoples of the earth may acknowledge your name and, like your people Israel, revere you, and know that thisTemple, which I have built, bears your name.	33 écoute-le du haut des cieux où tu habites et exauce en toutes choses la prière de cet étranger. Ainsi tous les peuples de la terre connaîtront ton Nom, ils te craindront comme le fait ton peuple Israël, et ils sauront que ton Nom repose sur cette Maison que j’ai bâtie.
34 'If your people go out to war against their enemies, on whatever mission you send them, and they prayto you, turning towards this city which you have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for yourname,	34 “Lorsque ton peuple partira en guerre contre ses ennemis par le chemin sur lequel tu l’auras envoyé, s’il te prie en se tournant vers cette ville que tu as choisie, et vers la Maison que j’ai bâtie en l’honneur de ton Nom,
35 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their entreaty, and uphold their cause.	35 écoute du haut des cieux ses prières et ses supplications et fais-lui justice.
36 'When they sin against you -- for there is no one who does not sin -- and you are angry with them andabandon them to the enemy, and their captors carry them off to a country be it far away or near,	36 “Lorsqu’ils auront péché contre toi - car y a-t-il un seul homme qui ne pèche jamais? - lorsque tu seras en colère contre eux, que tu les livreras à leurs ennemis et que leurs vainqueurs les emmèneront captifs dans leur pays loin ou proche,
37 if they come to their senses in the country to which they have been taken as captives and pray to youonce again in the country of their captivity, saying, "We have sinned, we have acted wrongly and wickedly,"	37 si dans le pays où on les a emmenés ils regrettent vraiment leur attitude, s’ils se convertissent et te supplient dans ce pays où ils sont captifs, s’ils te disent: Nous avons péché, nous avons fait ce qui est mal et nous avons commis un crime,
38 and turn back to you with al their heart and soul in the country of their captivity to which they havebeen carried away as captives, and pray, turning towards the country which you gave to their ancestors, towardsthe city you have chosen, and towards the Temple which I have built for your name,	38 si dans le pays de leur captivité ils reviennent vers toi de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, s’ils te prient en se tournant vers le pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, vers la ville que tu as choisie et vers la Maison que j’ai bâtie en l’honneur de ton Nom,
39 then listen from heaven where you reside, hear their prayer and entreaties, uphold their cause andforgive your people for having sinned against you.	39 écoute du haut des cieux où tu habites, leurs prières et leurs supplications, et fais-leur justice. Pardonne à ton peuple les péchés qu’il a commis contre toi.
40 'Now, O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to prayer offered in this place.	40 “Maintenant, mon Dieu, que tes yeux soient ouverts et tes oreilles attentives à la prière qui se fait en ce lieu!
41 And now Yahweh God, go up to your resting-place, you and your fortress, the Ark! Let your priests,Yahweh God, be robed in salvation, let your faithful rejoice in what is good!	41 “Lève-toi, Yahvé Dieu! viens avec l’Arche de ta puissance à ce lieu de repos! Que tes prêtres, Yahvé Dieu, soient revêtus de ton salut et que tes fidèles se réjouissent de bonheur!
42 Yahweh God, do not rebuff your Anointed -- remember the faithful love of your servant David!'	42 “Yahvé Dieu, ne repousse pas celui que tu as consacré et souviens-toi de ton amitié pour ton serviteur David.”
