1 Then Solomon said: Yahweh has chosen to dwel in thick cloud,	1 Allora Salomone disse: Il Signore ha promesso, che porrebbe sua stanza nella caligine:
2 and I have built you a princely dwel ing, a residence for you for ever.	2 E io ho eretta una casa al nome di lui, affinchè egli la abiti in eterno.
3 Then the king turned round and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while the whole assembly ofIsrael stood.	3 E il re si rivolse a benedire tutta la moltitudine d'Israele (perocché tutta la turba stava in piedi in attenzione), e disse:
4 He said, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who has carried out by his hand what he promisedverbally to my father David, when he said,	4 Benedetto il Signore Dio d'Israele, il quale ha condotto ad effetto quello, che promise a David mio padre, allor ché disse:
5 "From the day I brought my people out of Egypt I chose no city, in any of the tribes of Israel, to have atemple built where my name should be, nor did I choose anyone to be prince of my people Israel;	5 Dal giorno, in cui io trassi il mio popolo dalla terra d'Egitto, io non mi elessi tralle tribù d'Israele una città, dove si edificasse una casa al nome mio: e non elessi alcun altro uomo, perchè governasse il popol mio d'Israele;
6 but I did choose Jerusalem for my name to be there, and I did choose David to rule my people Israel."	6 Ma elessi Gerusalemme, perchè ella porti il mio nome; ed elessi David, per farlo re del mio popolo d'Israele.
7 My father David had set his heart on building a temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	7 E David padre mio avendo avuto bramosia di edificare una casa al nome del Signore Dio d'Israele.
8 but Yahweh said to my father David, "You have set your heart on building a temple for my name, and inthis you have done wel ;	8 Il Signore gli disse: Che tu abbia avuta la volontà di edificare una casa al nome mio, bene sta, che tu abbi avuto tal desiderio:
9 and yet, you are not the man to build the temple; but your son, yet to be born to you, wil be the one tobuild the temple for my name."	9 Ma non tu edificherai questa casa: ma il tuo figliuolo nato da te, egli edificherà la casa al nome mio.
10 Yahweh has kept the promise which he made: I have succeeded my father David and am seated onthe throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised; I have built the temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,	10 Il Signore adunque ha adempiuta la parola, ch'egli avea detta: e io son venuto in luogo del padre mio Davidde, e mi sono assiso sul trono d'Israele, come disse il Signore: ed ho eretta la casa al nome del Signore Dio d'Israele:
11 and I have placed in it the ark containing the covenant of Yahweh, which he made with the Israelites.'	11 E in essa ho collocata l'arca, dentro di cui sta il patto del Signore fermato co' figliuoli d'Israele.
12 Then in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, he stood facing the altar of Yahweh andstretched out his hands-	12 Indi (Salomone) si stette in piedi dinanzi all'altare del Signore alla presenza di tutta la moltitudine d'Israele, e stese le mani sue.
13 for Solomon had made a bronze platform, five cubits long, five cubits wide and five cubits high, whichhe had placed in the middle of the court and on which he was standing; he knelt down in front of the wholeassembly of Israel, stretched out his hands to heaven-	13 (Perocché avea Salomone fatta una predella di bronzo, e l'avea fatta porre nel mezzo del portico, lunga cinque cubiti, e larga cinque cubiti, e alta tre cubiti, ed egli vi stava sopra in piedi): e di poi inginocchiatosi alla presenza di tutta la turba d'Israele, e alzate al cielo le mani,
14 and said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven or on earth, you who are loyal tothe covenant and show faithful love to your servants as long as they walk wholeheartedly in your way.	14 Disse: Signore Dio d'Israele, non havvi Dio simile a te nel cielo, o nella terra: a te, che osservi i patti, e usi misericordia co' servi tuoi, ì quali con tutto il cuor loro battono le tue vie.
15 You have kept it with your servant, my father David, as you promised him you would. What youpromised verbally today you have carried out by your hand.	15 Tu, che adempisti a favore di David tuo servo, padre mio, tutto quello, che a lui predicesti: e quello, che promettesti in parole, lo eseguisti di fatto, come il presente tempo il dimostra:
16 And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep the promise which you made to your servant David when yousaid, "You wil never lack for a man to sit in my presence before me on the throne of Israel, provided that yoursons are careful how they behave, fol owing my law as you yourself have done."	16 Adesso adunque, o Signore Dio d'Israele, adempì tutto quello, che al padre mio David tuo servo annunziasti, dicendo: Non mancherà di tua stirpe chi segga dinanzi a me sul trono d'Israele: a condizione però, che i tuoi figliuoli veglino sopra le vie loro, e camminino nella mia legge, come tu pur camminasti dinanzi a me.
17 So now, God of Israel, let the words come true which you spoke to your servant, my father David.	17 Adesso adunque, o Signore Dio d'Israele, sia confermata la tua parola data da te a Davidde tuo servo.
18 Yet wil God real y live with the people on earth? Why, the heavens and the heavens of the heavenscannot contain you! How much less this temple built by me!	18 E' egli adunque credibile, che Dio abiti sopra la terra cogli uomini? Se il cielo, e ì cieli de' cieli non ti capiscono, quanto meno questa casa edificata da me?
19 Even so, listen favourably to the prayer and entreaty of your servant, Yahweh my God; listen to the cryand to the prayer which your servant makes to you:	19 Ma ella per questo solo è stata fatta, affinchè tu, Signore Dio mio, ti rivolga alle suppliche del tuo servo: e ascolti le preci, che spande dinanzi a te lo stesso tuo servo:
20 Day and night, may your eyes watch over this temple, over this place in which you have promised toput your name. Listen to the prayer which your servant offers in this place.	20 Affinchè gli occhi tu tenga aperti di giorno, e di notte sopra di questa casa, nella quale tu hai promesso, che sarebbe invocato il tuo nome;
21 'Listen to the entreaties of your servant and of your people Israel; whenever they pray in this place,listen from the place where you reside in heaven; and when you hear, forgive.	21 Affin di esaudire le orazioni fatte qui dal tuo servo, e di ammettere le suppliche del tuo servo, e d'Israele tuo popolo. Chiunque in questo luogo farà orazione, esaudiscilo dal luogo di tua abitazione, cioè dal cielo, e fa con lui misericordia.
22 'If someone has wronged his neighbour and a curse is laid on him to make him swear here beforeyour altar in this Temple,	22 Se uno avrà peccato contro il suo prossimo, e si offerirà di dar giuramento contro di lui, e si avvincerà di maledizione dinanzi all'altare in questa casa;
23 then listen from heaven and do justice between your servants, paying back the guilty one by makinghim suffer for his conduct, and acquitting the upright by rewarding him as his uprightness deserves.	23 Tu dal cielo ascolterai, e farai ragione a' tuoi servi, cader facendo sulla testa dell'iniquo la sua ingiustizia, e facendo le vendette del giusto, e rimunerando la sua giustizia.
24 'If your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against you, but thenreturn to you and acknowledge your name, and pray and seek your favour in this temple,	24 Se da' nemici sarà stato messo in fuga Israele tuo popolo (perocché egli peccherà contro di te), e convertiti faran penitenza, e invocheranno in questa casa il tuo nome, e faran suppliche a te in questo luogo,
25 then listen from heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them back to the countrywhich you gave to them and their ancestors.	25 Tu dal cielo gli esaudirai, e avrai misericordia d'Israele tuo popolo, e li ritornerai nella terra data da te ad essi, e ai padri loro.
26 'When the heavens are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray inthis place and praise your name and, having been humbled by you, desist from their sin,	26 Se, chiuso il cielo, mancheranno le piogge pei peccati del popolo, e faranno orazione a te in questo luogo, e confesseranno il tuo nome, e umiliati da te si convertiranno dai loro peccati,
27 then listen from heaven and forgive the sin of your servant and of your people Israel -- for you areconstantly showing them the good way which they must fol ow -- and send rain on your country, which you havegiven to your people as their heritage.	27 Esaudiscili dal cielo, o Signore, e perdona i lor peccati a' tuoi servi, e ad Israele tuo popolo, e mostra loro la buona strada, che debbono battere: e dà la pioggia alla terra data da te indominio del popol tuo.
28 'Should there be famine in the country, or pestilence, wind-blast or mildew, locust or caterpil ar; shouldtheir enemy lay siege to their territory; should there be any plague or any disease;	28 Se verrà nel paese la fame, e la pestilenza, e la ruggine, e il fuoco salvatico e le cavallette, e i bruci; e i nemici, desolate le terre, stringeranno d'assedio la città; o qualunque altro flagello, e malore li prema:
29 whatever be the prayer or entreaty of any individual, or of al your people Israel, each being aware ofhis own affliction and pain; when he stretches out his hands towards this Temple,	29 Se considerando le sue piaghe, e malori alcun del popolo d'Israele ti pregherà, e alzerà a te in questa casa le mani sue,
30 then listen from heaven where you reside; forgive and, since you know what is in his heart, deal witheach as his conduct deserves -- for you alone know what is in the human heart-	30 Tu dal cielo, dall'eccelsa abitazione tua lo esaudirai, e farai misericordia, e renderai a ciascuno secondo quello, che scorgerai nel suo cuore: perocché tu solo conosci i cuori degli uomini:
31 so that they may revere you by following your directions, which you gave to our ancestors, throughouttheir lives on earth.	31 Affinchè ti temano, e battano le tue vie in tutto il tempo, che viveranno sopra la terra data da te ai padri loro.
32 'Even the foreigner, not belonging to your people Israel but coming from a distant country, attracted byyour great name, your mighty hand and outstretched arm, if he comes and prays in this Temple,	32 Gli stranieri eziandio, che non sono del tuo popolo d'Israele, se di lontan paese verranno tratti dal nome tuo grande, e dalla forte tua mano, e dal possente tuo braccio, e te adoreranno in questo luogo,
33 then listen from heaven where you reside, and grant al that the foreigner asks of you, so that al thepeoples of the earth may acknowledge your name and, like your people Israel, revere you, and know that thisTemple, which I have built, bears your name.	33 Tu dal cielo, dalla saldissima abitazione tua gli esaudirai; e farai tutto quello, che chiederà a te lo straniero, affinchè sia conosciuto da tutti i popoli della terra il tuo nome, ed ei ti temano come il popol tuo d'Israele: e conoscano come da te prende il nome questa casa edificata da me.
34 'If your people go out to war against their enemies, on whatever mission you send them, and they prayto you, turning towards this city which you have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for yourname,	34 Se il popol tuo si moverà per far guerra a' suoi nemici, e andando, dove tu gli avrai mandati, te adoreranno rivolti a questa parte, dove è questa città eletta da te, e la casa edificata da me al tuo nome:
35 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their entreaty, and uphold their cause.	35 Tu dal cielo esaudirai le loro preghiere, e le suppliche, e farai le loro vendette.
36 'When they sin against you -- for there is no one who does not sin -- and you are angry with them andabandon them to the enemy, and their captors carry them off to a country be it far away or near,	36 Che se eglino peccheranno contro di te (perocché uomo non è, che non pecchi), onde tu irato contro di loro li darai in potere de' nemici, i quali li meneranno prigionieri lungi, o dappresso;
37 if they come to their senses in the country to which they have been taken as captives and pray to youonce again in the country of their captivity, saying, "We have sinned, we have acted wrongly and wickedly,"	37 E nel paese, dove furon menati schiavi, si convertiranno di cuore, e faran penitenza, e nella terra di loro schiavitù ti supplicheranno, dicendo: Abbiam peccato, abbiamo operato iniquamente, abbiamo agito ingiustamente;
38 and turn back to you with al their heart and soul in the country of their captivity to which they havebeen carried away as captives, and pray, turning towards the country which you gave to their ancestors, towardsthe city you have chosen, and towards the Temple which I have built for your name,	38 E a te torneranno con tutto il cuor loro, e con tutta l'anima nella terra di loro schiavitù, dove furon condotti, e te adoreranno rivolti verso il paese dato da te a' padri loro, e verso la citta eletta da te, e verso la casa, che io ho eretta al tuo nome:
39 then listen from heaven where you reside, hear their prayer and entreaties, uphold their cause andforgive your people for having sinned against you.	39 Tu dal cielo, dalla saldissima abitazione tua esaudirai le loro preci, e farai loro ragione, perdonando al tuo popolo, benché peccatore:
40 'Now, O my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to prayer offered in this place.	40 Perocché sei il mio Dio: siano aperti, ti prego, gli occhi tuoi, e attente le tue orecchie all'orazione, che si fa in questo luogo.
41 And now Yahweh God, go up to your resting-place, you and your fortress, the Ark! Let your priests,Yahweh God, be robed in salvation, let your faithful rejoice in what is good!	41 Adesso adunque, o Signore Dio. levati, e vieni alla tua requie, tu, e l'arca di tua possanza. I tuoi sacerdoti, o Signore Dio, siano ammantati di salute, e i tuoi santi festeggino pe' tuoi benefizj.
42 Yahweh God, do not rebuff your Anointed -- remember the faithful love of your servant David!'	42 Signore Dio, non volger lo sguardo dal tuo cristo: ricorditi della benignità di Davidde tuo servo.
