NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Josiah was eight years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for thirty-one years inJerusalem.	1 Quando cominciò a regnare, Giosia aveva otto anni e regnò in Gerusalemme trentun anni.
2 He did what is pleasing to Yahweh, and fol owed the example of his ancestor David, not deviatingfrom it to right or to left.	2 Fece ciò che è retto al cospetto del Signore e seguì la condotta di Davide, suo padre, senza deviare né a destra né a sinistra.
3 In the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a youth, he began to seek the God of his ancestorDavid. In the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the sacred poles and thesculpted and cast images.	3 Nell'ottavo anno del suo regno, quando era ancora giovane, cominciò a ricercare il Dio di Davide, suo padre, e nel dodicesimo anno cominciò a purificare Giuda e Gerusalemme dalle alture, dai pali sacri, dagli idoli e dalle immagini di metallo fuso.
4 He superintended the smashing of the altars of Baal, he broke up the incense altars standing abovethem, he shattered the sacred poles and the sculpted and cast images and reduced them to powder, scatteringthe powder on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.	4 Furono demoliti davanti a lui gli altari dei Baal, fece abbattere gli altari d'incenso che vi erano sopra; frantumò i pali sacri, gl'idoli e le immagini in metallo fuso, li ridusse in polvere, che sparse sui sepolcri di coloro che avevano ad essi sacrificato.

6 In the towns of Manasseh, Ephraim and Simeon, as far as Naphtali, and round their open spaces,	6 Lo stesso fece nelle città di Manasse, di Efraim, di Simeone e fino a Neftali, e nei territori che le attorniavano:
7 he smashed the altars and sacred poles, reduced the sculpted images to powder and broke up al theincense altars throughout the territory of Israel. 8 In the eighteenth year of his reign, after purging the country and the Temple, he commissionedShaphan son of Azaliah, Maaseiah governor of the city and the herald Joah son of Joahaz, to repair the Templeof Yahweh his God.	8 Nell'anno diciottesimo del suo regno, dopo aver purificato il paese e il tempio, incaricò Safàn, figlio di Asalia, Maaseia, governatore della città, e Ioach, figlio di Ioacaz, archivista, di restaurare il tempio del Signore, suo Dio.
9 When they came to the high priest Hilkiah, they handed over the money contributed to the Temple ofGod and col ected by the levitical guardians of the threshold from Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the rest of Israel, from al Judah and Benjamin, and from the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	9 Essi si recarono presso il sommo sacerdote Chelkia e consegnarono il denaro depositato nel tempio, che i leviti, custodi della porta, avevano raccolto da Manasse, da Efraim e da tutto il resto d'Israele, da tutta la Giudea, da Beniamino e dagli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
10 They handed it over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and these gave it tothe men working on the Temple of Yahweh to repair and restore the Temple;	10 Lo consegnarono in mano ai direttori dei lavori che erano preposti al tempio del Signore, i quali lo impiegarono per gli operai che lavoravano nel tempio del Signore, per consolidarlo e restaurarlo;
11 they gave it to the craftsmen and builders for buying dressed stone and timber for beams, tounderpin the buildings which the kings of Judah had al owed to fall into decay.	11 lo consegnarono ai carpentieri e ai muratori, per acquistare pietre di taglio e legname per le armature e le travature dei locali che i re di Giuda avevano lasciato andare in rovina.
12 The men were conscientious in doing their work; their foremen were Jahath and Obadiah, Levitesdescended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshul am, descended from Kohath, who supervised. 18 Shaphan the secretary also informed the king, 'The priest Hilkiah has given me a book'; andShaphan read extracts from it in the king's presence.	18 Poi lo scriba Safàn annunciò al re: "Il sacerdote Chelkia mi ha dato un libro". Safàn ne lesse una parte alla presenza del re.
19 On hearing the words of the Law, the king tore his clothes.	19 Quando il re udì le parole della legge si strappò le vesti.
20 Then the king gave the fol owing order to Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah,Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king's minister,	20 Egli diede quest'ordine a Chelkia, ad Achikam, figlio di Safàn, ad Abdon, figlio di Mica, allo scriba Safàn e ad Asaia, ministro del re:
21 'Go and consult Yahweh on behalf of me and of those left in Israel and Judah about the words of thebook that has been discovered: for Yahweh's furious wrath has been pouring down on us because our ancestorsdid not obey the word of Yahweh by doing what this book says they ought to have done.'	21 "Andate a consultare il Signore per me e per quelli che sono rimasti in Israele e in Giuda circa le parole del libro che è stato trovato; difatti grande è la collera del Signore, riversatasi sopra di noi, perché i nostri padri non osservarono la parola del Signore, agendo in conformità con quanto è scritto in questo libro".
22 Hilkiah and those whom the king had designated went to the prophetess Huldah wife of Shallum, sonof Tokhath, son of Hasrah, the keeper of the wardrobe; she lived in Jerusalem in the new town. They spoke toher about this,	22 Allora Chelkia, insieme con quelli che il re aveva designato si recò dalla profetessa Culda, moglie di Sallùm, figlio di Tokat, figlio di Casra, il guardarobiere del tempio; essa abitava a Gerusalemme nella città nuova. Le parlarono in questo senso
23 and she replied, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the man who sent you to me reply:	23 ed ella rispose: "Così parla il Signore, Dio d'Israele: Riferite all'uomo che vi ha inviato da me:
24 Yahweh says this: I am going to bring disaster on this place and the people who live in it -- all thecurses set down in the book read in the king of Judah's presence.	24 Così parla il Signore: "Ecco, faccio venire una sciagura su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti, tutte le maledizioni scritte nel libro che è stato letto al cospetto del re di Giuda.
25 Because they have abandoned me and burnt incense to other gods, so as to provoke my anger bytheir every action, my wrath is about to be poured down on this place, and nothing can stop it.	25 Poiché mi hanno abbandonato e hanno offerto incenso a divinità straniere, così da provocarmi a sdegno con tutte le opere delle loro mani, la mia collera si riverserà su questo luogo e non si spegnerà".
26 As for the king of Judah who sent you to consult Yahweh, say this to him: Yahweh, God of Israel,says this: The words you have heard . . .	26 Al re di Giuda, che vi ha inviato a consultare il Signore, direte: Così parla il Signore, Dio d'Israele: "A proposito delle parole che hai udito,
27 But since your heart has been touched and you have humbled yourself before God on hearing whathe has decreed against this place and the people who live in it, have torn your clothes and wept before me, I toohave heard"-Yahweh says this.	27 poiché il tuo cuore si è intenerito e ti sei umiliato davanti a Dio udendo le mie parole contro questo luogo e contro i suoi abitanti, ti sei umiliato davanti a me, hai strappato le tue vesti e hai pianto al mio cospetto, anch'io ti ho ascoltato. Oracolo del Signore.
28 "Look, when I gather you to your ancestors, you wil be gathered into your grave in peace; you wilnot live to see the great disaster that I am going to bring on this place and on the people who live in it." ' Theytook this answer to the king.	28 Ecco che ti riunirò con i tuoi padri, sarai accolto in pace nel tuo sepolcro. I tuoi occhi non vedranno tutta la sciagura che farò venire su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti". Quelli riportarono il messaggio al re.
29 The king then had al the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem summoned,	29 Allora per ordine del re si riunirono tutti gli anziani di Giuda e di Gerusalemme.
30 and the king went up to the temple of Yahweh, with al the men of Judah and al the inhabitants ofJerusalem, priests, Levites and al the people, high and low. In their hearing he read out the entire contents ofthe Book of the Covenant discovered in the Temple of Yahweh.	30 Il re salì al tempio del Signore insieme con tutti gli uomini di Giuda e con gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, i sacerdoti, i leviti e tutto il popolo, dal più grande al più piccolo. Egli fece leggere in loro presenza tutte le parole del libro dell'alleanza trovato nel tempio del Signore.
31 The king then, standing on the dais, bound himself by the covenant before Yahweh, to followYahweh, to keep his commandments, decrees and laws with al his heart and soul and to carry out the terms ofthe covenant as written in this book.	31 Il re, stando ritto sul suo podio, concluse un'alleanza davanti al Signore, impegnandosi a seguire il Signore, osservare i suoi precetti, le sue prescrizioni e i suoi decreti con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima, in modo da mettere in pratica le parole dell'alleanza scritte in quel libro.
32 He made al those present in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge their al egiance to it. The citizens ofJerusalem took action in keeping with the covenant of God, the God of their ancestors,	32 Egli vi fece aderire tutti quelli che si trovavano in Gerusalemme e Beniamino. Gli abitanti di Gerusalemme agirono secondo l'alleanza di Dio, del Dio dei loro padri.
33 while Josiah removed al the abominations throughout the territories belonging to the Israelites andrequired all inhabitants of Israel to serve Yahweh their God; throughout his lifetime they did not deviate fromfol owing Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	33 Giosia fece sparire tutte le abominazioni da tutti i territori appartenenti agl'Israeliti e costrinse quanti si trovavano in Israele a servire il Signore, loro Dio.
