2 Chronicles 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Josiah was eight years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for thirty-one years inJerusalem.	1 Josías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó 31 años en Jerusalén.
2 He did what is pleasing to Yahweh, and fol owed the example of his ancestor David, not deviatingfrom it to right or to left.	2 Hizo lo recto a los ojos de Yahveh, siguiendo los caminos de su padre David; sin apartarse a derecha ni a izquierda.
3 In the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a youth, he began to seek the God of his ancestorDavid. In the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the sacred poles and thesculpted and cast images.	3 El año octavo de su reinado, siendo todavía joven, comenzó a buscar al Dios de su padre David; y en el año doce empezó a purificar a Judá y Jerusalén de los altos, de los cipos, de las estatuas y de los ídolos fundidos.
4 He superintended the smashing of the altars of Baal, he broke up the incense altars standing abovethem, he shattered the sacred poles and the sculpted and cast images and reduced them to powder, scatteringthe powder on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.	4 Derribaron en su presencia los altares de los Baales, hizo arrancar los altares de aromas que había sobre ellos, y rompió los cipos, las imágenes y los ídolos fundidos reduciéndolos a polvo, que esparció sobre las sepulturas de los que les habían ofrecido sacrificios.
5 He burned the bones of their priests on their altars and so purified Judah and Jerusalem.	5 Quemó los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre los altares y purificó a Judá y Jerusalén.
6 In the towns of Manasseh, Ephraim and Simeon, as far as Naphtali, and round their open spaces,	6 En las ciudades de Manasés, de Efraím y de Simeón, y hasta en Neftalí y en los territorios asolados que las rodeaban,
7 he smashed the altars and sacred poles, reduced the sculpted images to powder and broke up al theincense altars throughout the territory of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.	7 derribó los altares, demolió los cipos y las estatuas y las redujo a polvo, y abatió los altares de aromas en toda la tierra de Israel. Después regresó a Jerusalén.
8 In the eighteenth year of his reign, after purging the country and the Temple, he commissionedShaphan son of Azaliah, Maaseiah governor of the city and the herald Joah son of Joahaz, to repair the Templeof Yahweh his God.	8 El año dieciocho de su reinado, mandó a Safán, hijo de Asalías, a Maasías, comandante de la ciudad, y a Yoaj, hijo de Yoajaz, heraldo, que reparasen la Casa de Yahveh su Dios para purificar la tierra y la Casa.
9 When they came to the high priest Hilkiah, they handed over the money contributed to the Temple ofGod and col ected by the levitical guardians of the threshold from Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the rest of Israel, from al Judah and Benjamin, and from the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	9 Fueron ellos donde el sumo sacerdote Jilquiás y le entregaron el dinero traído a la Casa de Dios, que los levitas y porteros habían recibido de Manasés y de Efraím y de todo el resto de Israel, de todo Judá y Benjamín y de los habitantes de Jerusalén.
10 They handed it over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and these gave it tothe men working on the Temple of Yahweh to repair and restore the Temple;	10 Lo pusieron en manos de los que hacían el trabajo, los encargados de la Casa de Yahveh, y éstos se lo dieron a los obreros para reparar y restaurar la Casa.
11 they gave it to the craftsmen and builders for buying dressed stone and timber for beams, tounderpin the buildings which the kings of Judah had al owed to fall into decay.	11 Lo dieron a los carpinteros y obreros de la construcción para comprar piedras de cantería y madera y vigas de trabazón para el maderamen de los edificios destruidos por los reyes de Judá.
12 The men were conscientious in doing their work; their foremen were Jahath and Obadiah, Levitesdescended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshul am, descended from Kohath, who supervised. The Levites --al of whom were skilled instrumentalists-	12 Estos hombres ejecutaban los trabajos honradamente. Estaban bajo la vigilancia de Yájat y Abdías, levitas de los hijos de Merarí, y de Zacarías y Mesúllam, de los hijos de Quehat, que les dirigían, y de otros levitas; todos ellos maestros en tañer instrumentos músicos.
13 were in charge of the carriers and supervised al the workmen at their various jobs, while some of theLevites acted as secretaries, book-keepers and gatekeepers.	13 Dirigían también a los peones de carga y a todos los que trabajaban en la obra, en los distintos servicios. Entre los levitas había además, escribas, notarios y porteros.
14 While bringing out the money contributed to the Temple of Yahweh, the priest Hilkiah found the bookof the Law of Yahweh given through Moses.	14 Cuando estaban sacando el dinero traído a la Casa de Yahveh, el sacerdote Jilquías encontró el libro de la Ley de Yahveh dada por Moisés;
15 Hilkiah then said to Shaphan the secretary, 'I have found the Book of the Law in the Temple ofYahweh.' And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.	15 y Jilquías tomó la palabra y dijo al secretario Safán: «He encontrado el libro de la Ley en la Casa de Yahveh»; y Jilquías entregó el libro a Safán.
16 Shaphan took the book to the king, reporting furthermore to him as fol ows, 'Your servants have doneeverything entrusted to them.	16 Safán llevó el libro al rey, y le rindió cuentas diciendo: «Tus siervos están haciendo todo lo que les ha sido encargado.
17 They have melted down the silver which was in the Temple of Yahweh and have handed it over tothe supervisors and the masters of works.'	17 Han fundido el dinero traído a la Casa de Yahveh y lo han entregado a los encargados y a los que trabajan en la obra».
18 Shaphan the secretary also informed the king, 'The priest Hilkiah has given me a book'; andShaphan read extracts from it in the king's presence.	18 El secretario Safán anunció al rey: «El sacerdote Jilquías me ha entregado un libro». Y Safán leyó una parte en presencia del rey.
19 On hearing the words of the Law, the king tore his clothes.	19 Cuando el rey oyó las palabras de la Ley, rasgó sus vestidos,
20 Then the king gave the fol owing order to Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah,Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king's minister,	20 y ordenó a Jilquías, a Ajicam, hijo de Safán, a Abdón, hijo de Miká, a Safán, secretario, y a Asaías, servidor del rey:
21 'Go and consult Yahweh on behalf of me and of those left in Israel and Judah about the words of thebook that has been discovered: for Yahweh's furious wrath has been pouring down on us because our ancestorsdid not obey the word of Yahweh by doing what this book says they ought to have done.'	21 «¡Id!; consultad a Yahveh por mí y por el resto de Israel y de Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que ha sido encontrado, porque grande es la cólera de Yahveh que se derrama sobre nosotros; pues nuestros padres no han guardado la palabra de Yahveh haciendo conforme a todo lo escrito en este libro».
22 Hilkiah and those whom the king had designated went to the prophetess Huldah wife of Shallum, sonof Tokhath, son of Hasrah, the keeper of the wardrobe; she lived in Jerusalem in the new town. They spoke toher about this,	22 Jilquías y los enviados del rey fueron donde la profetisa Juldá, mujer de Sallum, hijo de Toqhat, hijo de Jasrá, encargado del vestuario; vivía ella en Jerusalén, en la ciudad nueva; y ellos le hablaron conforme a lo indicado;
23 and she replied, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the man who sent you to me reply:	23 ella les respondió: «Así habla Yahveh, el Dios de Israel: Decid al hombre que os ha enviado a mí:
24 Yahweh says this: I am going to bring disaster on this place and the people who live in it -- all thecurses set down in the book read in the king of Judah's presence.	24 Así habla Yahveh: Voy a traer el mal sobre este lugar y sobre sus habitantes; todas las maldiciones escritas en el libro que se ha leído delante del rey de Judá;
25 Because they have abandoned me and burnt incense to other gods, so as to provoke my anger bytheir every action, my wrath is about to be poured down on this place, and nothing can stop it.	25 porque ellos me han abandonado y han quemado incienso a otros dioses, irritándome con todas las obras de sus manos; mi cólera se ha derramado sobre este lugar y no se apagará.
26 As for the king of Judah who sent you to consult Yahweh, say this to him: Yahweh, God of Israel,says this: The words you have heard . . .	26 Y al rey de Judá que os ha enviado para consultar a Yahveh, le diréis: Así dice Yahveh, Dios de Israel, acerca de las palabras que has oído...
27 But since your heart has been touched and you have humbled yourself before God on hearing whathe has decreed against this place and the people who live in it, have torn your clothes and wept before me, I toohave heard"-Yahweh says this.	27 Porque tu corazón se ha conmovido y te has humillado delante de Dios al oír sus palabras contra este lugar y sus habitantes, y porque te has humillado ante mí, has rasgado tus vestidos y has llorado ante mí, por eso yo, a mi vez, he oído, oráculo de Yahveh.
28 "Look, when I gather you to your ancestors, you wil be gathered into your grave in peace; you wilnot live to see the great disaster that I am going to bring on this place and on the people who live in it." ' Theytook this answer to the king.	28 Voy a reunirte con tus padres y serás recibido en paz en tu sepulcro; y no verán tus ojos ninguno de los males que voy a traer sobre este lugar y sus moradores». Ellos llevaron la respuesta al rey.
29 The king then had al the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem summoned,	29 Entonces el rey hizo reunir a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.
30 and the king went up to the temple of Yahweh, with al the men of Judah and al the inhabitants ofJerusalem, priests, Levites and al the people, high and low. In their hearing he read out the entire contents ofthe Book of the Covenant discovered in the Temple of Yahweh.	30 Subió el rey a la Casa de Yahveh con todos los hombres de Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén, los sacerdotes y los levitas, y todo el pueblo desde el mayor hasta el menor, y leyó a sus oídos todas las palabras del libro de la alianza que había sido encontrado en la Casa de Yahveh.
31 The king then, standing on the dais, bound himself by the covenant before Yahweh, to followYahweh, to keep his commandments, decrees and laws with al his heart and soul and to carry out the terms ofthe covenant as written in this book.	31 Y puesto en pie junto a la columna, hizo el rey alianza en presencia de Yahveh, para andar tras de Yahveh y guardar sus mandamientos, sus testimonios y sus preceptos, con todo su corazón y con toda su alma, cumpliendo las palabras de la alianza escritas en aquel libro.
32 He made al those present in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge their al egiance to it. The citizens ofJerusalem took action in keeping with the covenant of God, the God of their ancestors,	32 Hizo que la aceptaran cuantos se hallaban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín. Y los habitantes de Jerusalén hicieron conforme a la alianza de Dios, el Dios de sus padres.
33 while Josiah removed al the abominations throughout the territories belonging to the Israelites andrequired all inhabitants of Israel to serve Yahweh their God; throughout his lifetime they did not deviate fromfol owing Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	33 Josías hizo desaparecer todas las abominaciones de todas las regiones de los israelitas, y obligó a todos los que se hallaban en Israel a servir a Yahveh su Dios. Y mientras él vivió no se apartaron de Yahveh, el Dios de sus padres.
