NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Josiah was eight years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for thirty-one years inJerusalem.	1 - Josia aveva otto anni quando cominciò a regnare e regnò trentun anno in Gerusalemme.
2 He did what is pleasing to Yahweh, and fol owed the example of his ancestor David, not deviatingfrom it to right or to left.	2 Egli fece ciò ch'era bene al cospetto del Signore e camminò nelle vie di Davide, suo padre, senza piegare nè a destra nè a sinistra.
3 In the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a youth, he began to seek the God of his ancestorDavid. In the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the sacred poles and thesculpted and cast images.	3 L'ottavo anno del suo regno, essendo ancora fanciullo, cominciò a cercare il Dio di Davide suo padre e nell'anno dodicesimo da quando aveva cominciato a regnare, purificò Giuda e Gerusalemme dai luoghi eccelsi, dai boschi, dai simulacri e dalle statue.
4 He superintended the smashing of the altars of Baal, he broke up the incense altars standing abovethem, he shattered the sacred poles and the sculpted and cast images and reduced them to powder, scatteringthe powder on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.	4 Distrussero in sua presenza gli altari dei Baalim e demolirono i simulacri, che vi erano stati collocati; recise parimenti i boschi sacri e ridusse a pezzi le statue e ne sparse i frammenti sopra i sepolcri di quelli, che erano soliti fare ad essi delle immolazioni;
5 He burned the bones of their priests on their altars and so purified Judah and Jerusalem.	5 bruciò inoltre le ossa dei sacerdoti sugli altari degli idoli e purificò Giuda e Gerusalemme.
6 In the towns of Manasseh, Ephraim and Simeon, as far as Naphtali, and round their open spaces,	6 Anche nelle città di Manasse, di Efraim, di Simeone e di Neftali, abbattè ogni cosa,
7 he smashed the altars and sacred poles, reduced the sculpted images to powder and broke up al theincense altars throughout the territory of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.	7 e solamente dopo aver devastato gli altari e i boschi sacri e aver fatto a pezzi le statue e demolito in tutta la terra d'Israele i santuari, fece ritorno a Gerusalemme.
8 In the eighteenth year of his reign, after purging the country and the Temple, he commissionedShaphan son of Azaliah, Maaseiah governor of the city and the herald Joah son of Joahaz, to repair the Templeof Yahweh his God.	8 Nell'anno decimottavo del suo regno, purificato ormai il paese e il tempio del Signore, mandò Safan, figlio di Eselia e Maasia, principe della città e Joa, figlio di Joacaz scriba, per restaurare la casa del Signore Dio suo.
9 When they came to the high priest Hilkiah, they handed over the money contributed to the Temple ofGod and col ected by the levitical guardians of the threshold from Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the rest of Israel, from al Judah and Benjamin, and from the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	9 Vennero costoro da Elcia sommo sacerdote e ricevuto da lui il danaro che era stato portato nella casa del Signore e che avevano raccolto i leviti e i portieri da Manasse, da Efraim e da tutto ciò che restava d'Israele, e da tutto Giuda e da Beniamino, e dagli abitanti di Gerusalemme,
10 They handed it over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and these gave it tothe men working on the Temple of Yahweh to repair and restore the Temple;	10 lo consegnarono nelle mani di quelli che sovrastavano agli operai nella casa del Signore, per restaurare il tempio e riparare quelle parti che andavano in rovina.
11 they gave it to the craftsmen and builders for buying dressed stone and timber for beams, tounderpin the buildings which the kings of Judah had al owed to fall into decay.	11 Costoro poi lo diedero agli artigiani e ai muratori, affinchè comprassero pietre dalle cave e legname per le connettiture dell'edificio e la travatura delle case che erano state distrutte dai re di Giuda.
12 The men were conscientious in doing their work; their foremen were Jahath and Obadiah, Levitesdescended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshul am, descended from Kohath, who supervised. The Levites --al of whom were skilled instrumentalists-	12 Costoro agirono con grande probità. I sopraintendenti alle opere erano Jaat e Abdia della stirpe di Merari; Zaccaria e Mosollam dei figli di Caat, i quali sollecitavano il lavoro ed erano leviti periti nel sonare istrumenti.
13 were in charge of the carriers and supervised al the workmen at their various jobs, while some of theLevites acted as secretaries, book-keepers and gatekeepers.	13 Gli scribi e i maestri dei leviti portieri sovraintendevano a quelli addetti a portare i pesi per gli usi diversi.
14 While bringing out the money contributed to the Temple of Yahweh, the priest Hilkiah found the bookof the Law of Yahweh given through Moses.	14 Mentre estraeva il denaro che era stato offerto nel tempio del Signore il sommo sacerdote Elcia trovò il libro della Legge del Signore, data per mezzo di Mosè.
15 Hilkiah then said to Shaphan the secretary, 'I have found the Book of the Law in the Temple ofYahweh.' And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.	15 E disse allo scriba Safan: «Ho trovato il libro della Legge nella casa del Signore», e glielo consegnò.
16 Shaphan took the book to the king, reporting furthermore to him as fol ows, 'Your servants have doneeverything entrusted to them.	16 Questi portò il volume al re e gli disse: «Tutto quello che hai comandato ai tuoi servi, vien eseguito.
17 They have melted down the silver which was in the Temple of Yahweh and have handed it over tothe supervisors and the masters of works.'	17 Il danaro che si trovò nella casa del Signore è stato raccolto e consegnato ai capi degli artigiani e de' vari operai.
18 Shaphan the secretary also informed the king, 'The priest Hilkiah has given me a book'; andShaphan read extracts from it in the king's presence.	18 Inoltre il sacerdote Elcia mi ha consegnato questo libro». Safan si mise a leggere il libro alla presenza del re,
19 On hearing the words of the Law, the king tore his clothes.	19 e questi avendo udito le parole della Legge, si stracciò le vesti,
20 Then the king gave the fol owing order to Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah,Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king's minister,	20 e comandò ad Elcia, ad Aicam, figlio di Safan, ad Abdon, figlio di Mica, allo stesso Safan scriba e ad Asaa ministro del re, dicendo:
21 'Go and consult Yahweh on behalf of me and of those left in Israel and Judah about the words of thebook that has been discovered: for Yahweh's furious wrath has been pouring down on us because our ancestorsdid not obey the word of Yahweh by doing what this book says they ought to have done.'	21 «Andate a pregare il Signore per me e per tutto ciò che rimase ancora di Israele e di Giuda, a proposito di ciò che è contenuto nel libro che è stato trovato, poichè una grande collera del Signore si è diffusa sopra di noi, per il fatto che i padri nostri non han custodite le parole del Signore e non han fatto tutto ciò che è stato scritto in questo volume».
22 Hilkiah and those whom the king had designated went to the prophetess Huldah wife of Shallum, sonof Tokhath, son of Hasrah, the keeper of the wardrobe; she lived in Jerusalem in the new town. They spoke toher about this,	22 Elcia, e quelli che dal re erano stati mandati insieme con lui, se ne andarono dalla profetessa Olda, moglie di Sellum, figlio di Tecuat, figlio di Asra, custode delle vesti, la quale abitava in Gerusalemme nell'altro quartiere e le parlarono, e le narrarono le cose che si son dette.
23 and she replied, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the man who sent you to me reply:	23 Ella rispose loro: «Questo dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: - Dite all'uomo, che vi ha mandato a me:
24 Yahweh says this: I am going to bring disaster on this place and the people who live in it -- all thecurses set down in the book read in the king of Judah's presence.	24 "Queste cose dice il Signore: Io farò venire ogni sorta di mali sopra questo luogo e sopra i suoi abitanti e tutte le maledizioni che sono scritte in questo libro che fu letto innanzi al re di Giuda,
25 Because they have abandoned me and burnt incense to other gods, so as to provoke my anger bytheir every action, my wrath is about to be poured down on this place, and nothing can stop it.	25 poichè hanno abbandonato me e hanno sacrificato a divinità straniere per provocarmi allo sdegno con tutte le opere delle loro mani, perciò il mio furore pioverà sopra questo luogo e non cesserà".
26 As for the king of Judah who sent you to consult Yahweh, say this to him: Yahweh, God of Israel,says this: The words you have heard . . .	26 Al re di Giuda, poi che vi ha mandato, per consultare il Signore parlerete così: "Il Signore Dio d'Israele dice queste cose: Perchè tu hai ascoltato le parole di questo libro,
27 But since your heart has been touched and you have humbled yourself before God on hearing whathe has decreed against this place and the people who live in it, have torn your clothes and wept before me, I toohave heard"-Yahweh says this.	27 e il tuo cuore si commosse, e ti sei umiliato al cospetto di Dio a cagione di ciò che è detto contro questo luogo e contro gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, e hai avuto rispetto della mia faccia e hai stracciato le tue vesti e hai pianto al mio cospetto, anch'io ti ho esaudito, dice il Signore,
28 "Look, when I gather you to your ancestors, you wil be gathered into your grave in peace; you wilnot live to see the great disaster that I am going to bring on this place and on the people who live in it." ' Theytook this answer to the king.	28 e perciò io ti riunirò a' tuoi padri e sarai portato al tuo sepolcro in pace e non vedranno i tuoi occhi tutto il male, che io farò venire sopra questo luogo, e sopra i suoi abitanti" -». Fu riferito al re quello che essa aveva detto,
29 The king then had al the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem summoned,	29 ed egli avendo convocato tutti gli anziani di Giuda e di Gerusalemme,
30 and the king went up to the temple of Yahweh, with al the men of Judah and al the inhabitants ofJerusalem, priests, Levites and al the people, high and low. In their hearing he read out the entire contents ofthe Book of the Covenant discovered in the Temple of Yahweh.	30 salì alla casa del Signore insieme a tutti gli uomini di Giuda, agli abitanti di Gerusalemme, ai sacerdoti e ai leviti, e a tutto il popolo dal più piccolo, al più grande; e facendosi sentire da tutti nella casa del Signore, il re lesse tutte le parole del libro.
31 The king then, standing on the dais, bound himself by the covenant before Yahweh, to followYahweh, to keep his commandments, decrees and laws with al his heart and soul and to carry out the terms ofthe covenant as written in this book.	31 Poi stando in piedi sul palco fece un patto dinanzi al Signore, obbligandosi a camminare dietro a lui, a custodirne i precetti e le testimonianze, e le leggi con tutto il suo cuore, e con tutta l'anima sua, e di fare, quanto è scritto nel libro che era stato letto.
32 He made al those present in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge their al egiance to it. The citizens ofJerusalem took action in keeping with the covenant of God, the God of their ancestors,	32 Obbligò pure a ciò con giuramento, quanti erano in Gerusalemme e in Beniamino; e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme si attennero al patto del Signore Iddio de' padri loro.
33 while Josiah removed al the abominations throughout the territories belonging to the Israelites andrequired all inhabitants of Israel to serve Yahweh their God; throughout his lifetime they did not deviate fromfol owing Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	33 Josia adunque levò tutte le abominazioni da tutte le regioni dei figli d'Israele, e indusse tutti quelli che erano rimasti in Israele a servire al Signore Iddio loro.
