1 Josiah was eight years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for thirty-one years inJerusalem.	1 Otto anni aveva Josia quando cominciò a regnare, e trentun anno regnò in Gerusalemme.
2 He did what is pleasing to Yahweh, and fol owed the example of his ancestor David, not deviatingfrom it to right or to left.	2 E fece quello, che era retto nel cospetto del Signore; e battè le vie di David suo padre, senza piegare né a destra, né a sinistra.
3 In the eighth year of his reign, when he was still a youth, he began to seek the God of his ancestorDavid. In the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem of the high places, the sacred poles and thesculpted and cast images.	3 E l'anno ottavo del suo regno, essendo tuttor giovinetto, cominciò a cercare il Dio ai David suo padre: e l'anno duodecimo, dopo il cominciamento del suo regno, mondò il paese di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme da' luoghi eccelsi, e da boschetti, e simolacri, e statue.
4 He superintended the smashing of the altars of Baal, he broke up the incense altars standing abovethem, he shattered the sacred poles and the sculpted and cast images and reduced them to powder, scatteringthe powder on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.	4 E in sua presenza fece distruggere gli altari di Baal, e spezzare gl'idoli, che vi erano stati messi sopra: e atterrò parimente i boschetti, e fracassò le statue; e ne sparse i pezzi sopra i sepolcri di coloro, che ad esse solevano offerir vittime.
5 He burned the bones of their priests on their altars and so purified Judah and Jerusalem.	5 E le ossa de' sacerdoti bruciò sopra gli altari degl'idoli, e purificò Giuda, e Gerusalemme.
6 In the towns of Manasseh, Ephraim and Simeon, as far as Naphtali, and round their open spaces,	6 E anche nelle città di Manasse, e di Ephraim, e di Simeon, e di Nephtali distrusse tutte quelle cose.
7 he smashed the altars and sacred poles, reduced the sculpted images to powder and broke up al theincense altars throughout the territory of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.	7 E dopo avervi abbattuti gli altari, e i boschetti, e stritolate le statue, e gettati a terra tutti i templi per tutto il paese d'Israele, se ne tornò a Gerusalemme.
8 In the eighteenth year of his reign, after purging the country and the Temple, he commissionedShaphan son of Azaliah, Maaseiah governor of the city and the herald Joah son of Joahaz, to repair the Templeof Yahweh his God.	8 Indi l'anno diciottesimo del suo regno, dopo aver purificato il paese, e il tempio del Signore, mandò Saphan figliuolo di Eselia, e Maasia principe della città, e Joha figliuolo di Joachaz segretario, a fare i risarcimenti al tempio del Signore Dio suo.
9 When they came to the high priest Hilkiah, they handed over the money contributed to the Temple ofGod and col ected by the levitical guardians of the threshold from Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the rest of Israel, from al Judah and Benjamin, and from the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	9 E questi andarono a trovare Helcia sommo Sacerdote: e il denaro, che ricevetter da lui (che era stato portato alla casa del Signore, e dai Leviti, e portinaj raccolto dalla tribù di Manasse, e di Ephraim, e da tutto quello, che restava d'Israele, e da tutto Giuda, e Benjamin, e dagli abitanti di Gerusalemme).
10 They handed it over to the masters of works attached to the Temple of Yahweh, and these gave it tothe men working on the Temple of Yahweh to repair and restore the Temple;	10 Lo misero nelle mani di quelli, che avean la soprintendenza agli operaj, che lavoravano nella casa del Signore, affinchè eglino facesser le riparazioni, del tempio, e rassettassero, dove avesse patito.
11 they gave it to the craftsmen and builders for buying dressed stone and timber for beams, tounderpin the buildings which the kings of Judah had al owed to fall into decay.	11 E quelli ne diedero agli artefici, e ai muratori, perchè comprassero dalle cave le pietre, e le travi per sostenere l'edificio, e pe' tavolati delle fabbriche rovinate dai re di Giuda.
12 The men were conscientious in doing their work; their foremen were Jahath and Obadiah, Levitesdescended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshul am, descended from Kohath, who supervised. The Levites --al of whom were skilled instrumentalists-	12 E quelli facevano il tutto con fedeltà. Ed erano i soprintendenti degl operaj Jahath, e Abdia della stirpe di Merari, Zacharia, e Mosollam della stirpe di Caath, i quali sollecitavano il lavoro: erano tutti Leviti periti di sonare strumenti.
13 were in charge of the carriers and supervised al the workmen at their various jobs, while some of theLevites acted as secretaries, book-keepers and gatekeepers.	13 Sopra quelli poi, che portavano i pesi pe' varj bisogni, invigilavano scribi, e portinaj maggiori del numero de' Leviti.
14 While bringing out the money contributed to the Temple of Yahweh, the priest Hilkiah found the bookof the Law of Yahweh given through Moses.	14 Or mentre si cavava fuori il denaro, che era stato portato al tempio del Signore, Helcia sommo Sacerdote trovò il libro della legge del Signore (data) per mano di Mosè.
15 Hilkiah then said to Shaphan the secretary, 'I have found the Book of the Law in the Temple ofYahweh.' And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.	15 E disse a Saphan segretario: Ho trovato nella casa del Signore il libro della legge. E glielo diede.
16 Shaphan took the book to the king, reporting furthermore to him as fol ows, 'Your servants have doneeverything entrusted to them.	16 E quegli portò il libro al re, e facendogli la sua relazione, disse: Tutto quello, che è stato da te affidato al ministero de' servi tuoi, si va conducendo a fine.
17 They have melted down the silver which was in the Temple of Yahweh and have handed it over tothe supervisors and the masters of works.'	17 Eglino hanno messo insieme il denaro, che si è trovato nella casa del Signore: ed è stato rimesso ai soprintendenti degli artefici, e di quelli, che fanno questo, e quel lavoro.
18 Shaphan the secretary also informed the king, 'The priest Hilkiah has given me a book'; andShaphan read extracts from it in the king's presence.	18 Oltre a ciò Helcia sommo Sacerdote mi ha dato questo libro. E avendolo egli letto in presenza del re,
19 On hearing the words of the Law, the king tore his clothes.	19 Udite che ebbe questi le parole della legge, stracciò le sue vestimenta:
20 Then the king gave the fol owing order to Hilkiah, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Abdon son of Micah,Shaphan the secretary and Asaiah the king's minister,	20 E comandò ad Helcia, e ad Ahicam figliuolo di Saphan, e ad Abdon figliuolo di Micha, e a Saphan segretario, e ad Asaa servo del re, e disse:
21 'Go and consult Yahweh on behalf of me and of those left in Israel and Judah about the words of thebook that has been discovered: for Yahweh's furious wrath has been pouring down on us because our ancestorsdid not obey the word of Yahweh by doing what this book says they ought to have done.'	21 Andate, e pregate il Signore per me, e per gli avanzi d'Israele, e di Giuda per riguardo a tutte le parole di questo libro, che si è trovato: perocché il furor grande del Signore sta per cadere sopra di noi, perchè i padri nostri non hanno osservate le parole del Signore, e non hanno adempiuto tutto quel, che sta scritto in questo libro.
22 Hilkiah and those whom the king had designated went to the prophetess Huldah wife of Shallum, sonof Tokhath, son of Hasrah, the keeper of the wardrobe; she lived in Jerusalem in the new town. They spoke toher about this,	22 Andò adunque Helcia, e tutti gli altri, che erano stati mandati dal re a parlare ad Olda profetessa, moglie di Sellum figliuolo di Thecuath, figliuolo di Hara Guardaroba maggiore; il quale abitava in Gerusalemme nella seconda città, e riferirono a lei quello, che si è detto di sopra.
23 and she replied, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the man who sent you to me reply:	23 Ed ella rispose loro: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Dite a colui, che vi ha mandati a me:
24 Yahweh says this: I am going to bring disaster on this place and the people who live in it -- all thecurses set down in the book read in the king of Judah's presence.	24 Queste cose dice il Signore: Ecco che io manderò sciagure sopra questo luogo, e sopra i suoi abitanti, e tutte le maledizioni scritte in quel libro, che è stato letto dinanzi al re di Giuda.
25 Because they have abandoned me and burnt incense to other gods, so as to provoke my anger bytheir every action, my wrath is about to be poured down on this place, and nothing can stop it.	25 Perchè essi mi hanno abbandonato, e hanno offerti sagrifizj agli dei stranieri, provocandomi ad ira con tutte le opere delle loro mani; per questo il furor mio pioverà sopra questo luogo, e non cesserà.
26 As for the king of Judah who sent you to consult Yahweh, say this to him: Yahweh, God of Israel,says this: The words you have heard . . .	26 Ma al re di Giuda, il quale vi ha mandati a me per far pregare il Signore, direte così: Queste cose dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Perchè tu hai ascoltate le parole di questo libro,
27 But since your heart has been touched and you have humbled yourself before God on hearing whathe has decreed against this place and the people who live in it, have torn your clothes and wept before me, I toohave heard"-Yahweh says this.	27 E si è intenerito il cuor tuo, e ti se' umiliato nel cospetto di Dio per ragione delle cose, che sono state predette contro questo luogo, e contro gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, e hai avuto rispetto a me, hai stracciate le tue vesti, e hai sparse lagrime dinanzi a me: io ancora ti ho esaudito, dice il Signore.
28 "Look, when I gather you to your ancestors, you wil be gathered into your grave in peace; you wilnot live to see the great disaster that I am going to bring on this place and on the people who live in it." ' Theytook this answer to the king.	28 Perocché io ben presto ti riunirò co' padri tuoi, e in pace sarai portato al tuo sepolcro: e gli occhi tuoi non vedranno tutti i mali, che io manderò sopra di questo luogo, e sopra i suoi abitanti. Eglino adunque riportarono al re tutto quello, che ella avea detto.
29 The king then had al the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem summoned,	29 Ed egli, convocati tutti i seniori di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme,
30 and the king went up to the temple of Yahweh, with al the men of Judah and al the inhabitants ofJerusalem, priests, Levites and al the people, high and low. In their hearing he read out the entire contents ofthe Book of the Covenant discovered in the Temple of Yahweh.	30 Sali alla casa del Signore, e con lui tutti gli uomini di Giuda, e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, i sacerdoti, e i Leviti, e tutto il popolo, grandi, e piccoli. E tutti essendo intenti ad ascoltare, lesse il re il libro parola a parola:
31 The king then, standing on the dais, bound himself by the covenant before Yahweh, to followYahweh, to keep his commandments, decrees and laws with al his heart and soul and to carry out the terms ofthe covenant as written in this book.	31 E stando sulla sua tribuna, fermò patto dinanzi al Signore di camminare dietro a lui, e di osservare i suoi precetti, e le leggi, e le cerimonie con tutto il cuor suo, e con tutta l'anima sua, e di fare quel, che sta scritto nel libro, che avea letto.
32 He made al those present in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge their al egiance to it. The citizens ofJerusalem took action in keeping with the covenant of God, the God of their ancestors,	32 E a questo pure obbligò con giuramento tutti quelli, che si trovarono in Gerusalemme, e nella terra di Beniamin: e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme acconsentirono a questo patto col Signore Dio de' padri loro.
33 while Josiah removed al the abominations throughout the territories belonging to the Israelites andrequired all inhabitants of Israel to serve Yahweh their God; throughout his lifetime they did not deviate fromfol owing Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	33 Josia pertanto tolse via tutte le abominazioni da tutto il paese de' figliuoli d'Israele: e fece si, che tutti quei, che restavano d'Israele, servissero il Signore Dio loro. Per tutto il tempo ch'ei visse, eglino non abbandonarono il Signore Dio de' padri loro.
