1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. He did not do what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.	1 Acaz aveva vent'anni quan­do cominciò a regnare, e regnò sedici anni in Gerusalemme. Egli invece di far quel che era giusto nel cospetto del Signore, come David suo padre,
2 He followed the example of the kings of Israel, even having images cast for the Baals;	2 camminò nelle vie dei re d'Israele, e di più fece delle statue ai Baalim.
3 he burned incense in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom, caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice,copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.	3 E' lui quello che bruciò incenso nella valle di Benennom, e, secondo il rito delle nazioni che il Signore aveva sterminate all'arrivo dei figli d'Israele, fece passare pel fuoco i suoi figli.
4 He offered sacrifices and incense on the high places, on the hil s and under every green tree.	4 Inoltre sacrificava e bruciava profumi sugli alti luoghi, sui colli e sotto ogni albero frondoso.
5 So Yahweh his God put him at the mercy of the king of Aram, who defeated him and took largenumbers of captives, carrying them off to Damascus. He also put him at the mercy of the king of Israel, whoinflicted heavy casualties on him.	5 E il Signore Dio suo lo diede in mano del re di Siria, che lo sconfìsse e, presa dal suo regno gran preda, la portò a Damasco. Fu anche dato nelle mani del re d'Israele, che gli diede una grande sconfìtta.
6 In a single day, Pekah son of Remaliah kil ed a hundred and twenty thousand in Judah, al of themprominent men, because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	6 Infatti Facee, figlio di Romelia, uccise in un giorno centoventi mila uomini di Giuda, tutti uomini di valore; perchè essi avevan abbandonato il Signore Dio dei loro padri.
7 Zichri, an Ephraimite champion, killed Maaseiah the king's son, Azrikam the control er of thehousehold and Elkanah the king's second-in-command.	7 Allora Zecri, un potente di Efraim, uccise Maasia, figlio del re, Ezrica, suo maggiordomo, ed Elcana, il secondo dopo il re;
8 Of their brothers, the Israelites took two hundred thousand captive including wives, sons, daughters;they also took quantities of booty, carrying everything off to Samaria.	8 e i figli d'Israele fecero prigionieri duecento mila dei loro fratelli, donne, fanciulli e fanciulle, fecero pure gran preda che portarono a Samaria.
9 Now there was a prophet of Yahweh there by the name of Oded, who went out to meet the troopsreturning to Samaria and said, 'Look, because Yahweh, God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he putthem at your mercy, but you have slaughtered them with such fury as reached to heaven,	9 Ivi era allora un profeta del Signore, chiamato Obed, il qua­le, uscito incontro all'esercito che tornava a Samaria, disse loro: « Ecco il Signore Dio dei padri vostri, sdegnato contro Giuda, li ha dati nelle vostre mani, e voi, dopo averli trucidati con tanta ferocia, che la vostra crudeltà è giunta fino al cielo.
10 and now you propose to reduce the children of Judah and Jerusalem to being your male and femaleslaves! Have you not yourselves committed sins against Yahweh your God?	10 Volete aggiungere di assoggettarvi come schiavi e schiave i figli di Giuda e di Gerusalemme. Ciò non doveva esser fatto: in questo avete peccato contro il Signore Dio vostro.
11 Now listen to me: release the captives you have taken from your brothers, for the fierce anger ofYahweh hangs over you.'	11 Or dunque ascoltate il mio consiglio; riconducete i prigionieri che avete fatti tra i vostri fratelli, perchè l'ira grande di Dio vi sovrasta ».
12 Some of the Ephraimite chieftains -- Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechaiah son of Meshil emoth,Jehizkiah son of Shal um and Amasa son of Hadlai -- then protested to those returning from the war	12 Allora alcuni dei principi dei figli d'Efraim, Azaria figlio di Iohanan, Barachia figlio di Mosollamot, Ezechia figlio di Sellum, e Amasa figlio di Adali si fermarono in faccia a quelli che tornavano dalla battaglia,
13 and said to them, 'You must not bring the captives here, for we have already sinned against Yahwehand you propose to add to our sin and guilt, although our guilt is already great, and fierce anger is hanging overIsrael.'	13 e dissero loro: « Non dovete menare qua dentro questi prigionieri, chè non pecchiamo contro il Signore. Perchè volete accrescere il numero dei nostri peccati e colmar la misura delle antiche colpe? Questo è un gran peccato, e l'ira furibonda del Signore già pende sopra Israele ».
14 So in the presence of the officials and whole assembly, the soldiers gave up the captives and thebooty.	14 Dinanzi ai principi e a tutta la moltitudine, quegli uomini di guerra lasciarono la preda e tutto quello che avevano preso.
15 Men nominated for the purpose then took charge of the captives. From the booty they clothed althose of them who were naked; they gave them clothing and sandals, provided them with food and drink,mounted on donkeys al those who were infirm and took them back to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to theirbrothers. Then they returned to Samaria.	15 E i soprannominati uomini, levatisi e presi i prigionieri, rivestirono colle spoglie quelli che erari nudi, e dopo averli vestiti, calzati, ristorati con cibi e bevande, unti a causa della loro stanchezza, dopo averli cosi ben trattati, posero sopra degli asini quelli che non potevano camminare ed eran deboli di corpo, e li condussero a Gerico, città delle palme, presso i loro fratelli, e poi se ne tornarono a Samaria.
16 This was when King Ahaz sent asking the king of Assyria to come to his assistance.	16 In quel tempo il re Acaz mandò a chiedere aiuto al re d'Assiria;
17 The Edomites again invaded, defeated Judah, and carried off captives,	17 perchè anche gl'Idumei vennero e percossero molti di Giuda e fecero gran preda;
18 while the Philistines raided the towns in the lowlands and in the Negeb of Judah, capturing Beth-Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco and its dependencies, Timnah and its dependencies and Gimzo and itsdependencies, and settled there.	18 e anche i Filistei si sparsero nelle città della pianura e nella parte meridionale di Giuda, e presero Betsames, Aialon, Gaderot, Soco, Tamnan, Gamzo, coi loro sobborghi, e vi abitarono.
19 For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, since he behaved without restraint inJudah and had been unfaithful to Yahweh.	19 Il Si­gnore aveva così umiliato Giuda a causa di Acaz re di Giuda, il quale, spogliato (Giuda) d'ogni soccorso, aveva disprezzato il Signore,
20 Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria attacked and besieged him; but he could not overpower him.	20 che menò contro di lui Telgat-falnasar re d'Assiria, e que­sti pure lo ridusse alle strette e, senza trovar resistenza, lo rovinò.
21 Although Ahaz robbed the Temple of Yahweh and the palaces of the king and princes and gave theproceeds to the king of Assyria, he received no help from him.	21 Allora Acaz, spogliata la casa del Signore, la casa reale e quella dei principi, diede doni al re d'Assiria; ma ciò non gli giovò a nulla.
22 During the time when he was under siege he disobeyed Yahweh even more grossly, this King Ahaz.	22 Ed anche nel tempo delle sue strettezze, questo medesimo re Acaz crebbe nel disprezzo del Signore,
23 For he offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him. 'Since the gods of thekings of Aram', he thought, 'have supported them, I shal sacrifice to them, and perhaps they will help me.' Butthey proved to be his and al Israel's downfal .	23 e immolò vittime agli dèi di Damasco che l'avevano percosso, e disse: « Gli dèi del re di Siria vengono loro in aiuto, ma io li placherò colle vittime, ed essi aiuteranno me ». Invece furon di rovina a lui e a tutto Israele.
24 Ahaz then collected the equipment of the Temple of God, broke up the equipment of the Temple ofGod, sealed the doors of the Temple of Yahweh and put his own altars in every corner of Jerusalem;	24 Acaz, portati via e fatti in pezzi tutti i vasi della casa di Dio, chiuse le porte del tempio di Dio, e si eresse degli altari per tutte le cantonate di Gerusalemme.
25 he set up high places in every town of Judah to burn incense to other gods, thus provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of his ancestors.	25 Anche in tutte le città di Giuda eresse altari per bruciarvi incenso, e cosi provocò ad ira il Signore Dio dei suoi padri.
26 The rest of his history, his whole policy, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel.	26 Il resto dei suoi atti e di tutte le sue imprese, dalle prime alle ultime, sta scritto nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele.
27 Then Ahaz fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City, in Jerusalem, though he was nottaken to the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah succeeded him.	27 Poi Acaz si addormentò coi suoi padri. Lo seppellirono nella città di Gerusalemme, ma non lo misero nei sepolcri dei re d'Israele.
