1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. He did not do what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.	1 Achaz avea venti anni quando cominciò a regnare; e regnò sedici anni in Gerusalemme: egli non operò con rettitudine dinanzi al Signore, come David suo padre:
2 He followed the example of the kings of Israel, even having images cast for the Baals;	2 Ma battè la via dei re d'Israele: e di più fece di getto statue a Baalim.
3 he burned incense in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom, caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice,copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.	3 Egli fu, che abbruciò incenso nella valle di Benennom, e fece passare pel fuoco i suoi figliuoli, secondo il rito delle nazioni sterminate dal Signore all'arrivo de' figliuoli d'Israele.
4 He offered sacrifices and incense on the high places, on the hil s and under every green tree.	4 Egli parimente sacrificava, e bruciava timiami ne' luoghi eccelsi, e sui colli, e sotto ogni pianta ombrosa.
5 So Yahweh his God put him at the mercy of the king of Aram, who defeated him and took largenumbers of captives, carrying them off to Damascus. He also put him at the mercy of the king of Israel, whoinflicted heavy casualties on him.	5 E il Signore Dio suo lo diede in potere del re di Siria, il quale lo sconfisse, e preda grande porto via dal suo reame a Damasco. Fu anche dato in potere del re d'Israele, il quale gli diede una gran rotta.
6 In a single day, Pekah son of Remaliah kil ed a hundred and twenty thousand in Judah, al of themprominent men, because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	6 E Phacea, figliuolo di Romelia, uccise in un giorno cento venti mila uomini di Giuda, tutta gente di valore: perchè eglino aveano abbandonato il Signore Dio de' padri loro.
7 Zichri, an Ephraimite champion, killed Maaseiah the king's son, Azrikam the control er of thehousehold and Elkanah the king's second-in-command.	7 Nel tempo stesso Zechri, uomo potente in Ephraim, uccise Maasia figliuolo del re, ed Ezrica suo maggiordomo, e anche Elcana, che teneva il secondo posto dopo il re.
8 Of their brothers, the Israelites took two hundred thousand captive including wives, sons, daughters;they also took quantities of booty, carrying everything off to Samaria.	8 E i figliuoli d'Israele fecero prigionieri dugento mila dei loro fratelli, donne, fanciulli, e fanciulle; e fecero preda infinita, e la portarono in Samaria.
9 Now there was a prophet of Yahweh there by the name of Oded, who went out to meet the troopsreturning to Samaria and said, 'Look, because Yahweh, God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he putthem at your mercy, but you have slaughtered them with such fury as reached to heaven,	9 In quel tempo era colà un profeta del Signore di nome Obed: il quale essendo andato incontro all'esercito, che veniva a Samaria, disse loro: Ecco che il Signore Dio de padri vostri sdegnato contro Giuda, gli ha dati in poter vostro; e voi gli avete trucidati senza misericordia, talmente che la vostra crudeltà è giunta sino al cielo.
10 and now you propose to reduce the children of Judah and Jerusalem to being your male and femaleslaves! Have you not yourselves committed sins against Yahweh your God?	10 E di più voi pretendete di soggettare a voi come schiavi, e come schiave i figliuoli, e le figlie di Giuda, e di Gerusalemme: ma questo non è da comportarsi: e voi in questo peccate contro il Signore Dio vostro.
11 Now listen to me: release the captives you have taken from your brothers, for the fierce anger ofYahweh hangs over you.'	11 Ma fate a modo mio, e riconducete alle case loro questi prigionieri fratelli vostri, che avete condotti qua: perocché il furor grande del Signore sta pendente sopra di voi.
12 Some of the Ephraimite chieftains -- Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechaiah son of Meshil emoth,Jehizkiah son of Shal um and Amasa son of Hadlai -- then protested to those returning from the war	12 Si fermarono adunque alcuni dei principi de' figliuoli di Ephraim, Azaria figliuolo di Jonanan, Barachia figliuolo di Mosollamoth, Ezechia figliuolo di Sellum, e Amasti figliuolo di Adali in faccia a quelli, che tornavano dalla battaglia.
13 and said to them, 'You must not bring the captives here, for we have already sinned against Yahwehand you propose to add to our sin and guilt, although our guilt is already great, and fierce anger is hanging overIsrael.'	13 E disser loro: Voi non condurrete qua dentro questi prigionieri, perchè noi peccheremmo contro il Signore. Perchè volete aggiunger questo ai nostri peccati, e colmar la misura delle antiche colpe? perocché questo è un gran peccato, e l'ira furibonda del Signore sta sopra Israele.
14 So in the presence of the officials and whole assembly, the soldiers gave up the captives and thebooty.	14 Or quegli uomini guerrieri lasciarono la preda, e tutto quello, che aveano acquistato, dinanzi a que' principi, e a tutta la moltitudine.
15 Men nominated for the purpose then took charge of the captives. From the booty they clothed althose of them who were naked; they gave them clothing and sandals, provided them with food and drink,mounted on donkeys al those who were infirm and took them back to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to theirbrothers. Then they returned to Samaria.	15 E quelli, che abbiam nominati di sopra, presero i prigionieri, e quei, che erano ignudi, e li rivestirono delle spoglie: e vestiti, e calzati, e ristorati di cibo, e di bevanda, gli unsero per sollevarli dalla stanchezza, e ne ebbero gran cura: e quelli, che non potevano camminare, ed erano deboli di corpo, li posero sopra degli asini, e li condussero a Gerico, città delle palme, ai loro fratelli, ed eglino se ne tornarono a Samaria
16 This was when King Ahaz sent asking the king of Assyria to come to his assistance.	16 In quel tempo il re Achaz mandò a chiedere aiuto al re degli Assiri.
17 The Edomites again invaded, defeated Judah, and carried off captives,	17 E gl'Idumei entrarono nel paese di Giuda, e uccisero molta gente, e fecero gran preda.
18 while the Philistines raided the towns in the lowlands and in the Negeb of Judah, capturing Beth-Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco and its dependencies, Timnah and its dependencies and Gimzo and itsdependencies, and settled there.	18 E i Filistei parimente inondarono le città della pianura, e la parte meridionale di Giuda: e presero Bethsames, e Aialon, e Gaderoth, e anche Socho, e Thamnan, e Gamzo co' loro castelli, e vi si annidarono.
19 For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, since he behaved without restraint inJudah and had been unfaithful to Yahweh.	19 Perocché il Signore aveva umiliato Giuda a causa di Achaz re di Giuda, il quale lo avea spogliato di ogni soccorso, avendo disprezzato il Signore.
20 Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria attacked and besieged him; but he could not overpower him.	20 Il quale fece muovere contro dì lui Thelgathphalnasar re degli Assiri; e questi lo ridusse alle strette, e senza trovar resistenza devastò il paese.
21 Although Ahaz robbed the Temple of Yahweh and the palaces of the king and princes and gave theproceeds to the king of Assyria, he received no help from him.	21 Achaz pertanto, spogliata la casa del Signore, e la casa reale, e quelle de' principi, diede doni al re degli Assiri, ma inutilmente.
22 During the time when he was under siege he disobeyed Yahweh even more grossly, this King Ahaz.	22 E di più nel tempo di sue angustie disprezzò sempre più il Signore.
23 For he offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him. 'Since the gods of thekings of Aram', he thought, 'have supported them, I shal sacrifice to them, and perhaps they will help me.' Butthey proved to be his and al Israel's downfal .	23 Egli stesso il re Achaz immolò di sua mano vittime agli dei di Damasco, che gli davano addosso, e disse: Gli dei de' re di Siria danno aiuto a questi, e io li placherò colle vittime, e aiuteranno me: quando pel contrario furon la rovina di lui, e di tutto Israele.
24 Ahaz then collected the equipment of the Temple of God, broke up the equipment of the Temple ofGod, sealed the doors of the Temple of Yahweh and put his own altars in every corner of Jerusalem;	24 Achaz pertanto, portati via, e fatti in pezzi tutti i vasi della casa di Dio, chiuse le porte del tempio, ed eresse i suoi altari a tutte le cantonate di Gerusalemme.
25 he set up high places in every town of Judah to burn incense to other gods, thus provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of his ancestors.	25 E anche in tutte le città di Giuda eresse altari per abbruciarvi incenso; e provocò ad ira il Signore Dio de' padri suoi.
26 The rest of his history, his whole policy, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel.	26 Il rimanente poi delle sue azioni, e delle opere sue, le prime, e le ultime stanno scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda, e d'Israele.
27 Then Ahaz fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City, in Jerusalem, though he was nottaken to the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah succeeded him.	27 E Achaz si addormentò co' padri suoi, e fu sepolto nella città di Gerusalemme: perocché non vollero metterlo nei sepolcri dei re d'Israele. E gli succedette nel regno Ezechia suo figliuolo.
