2 Chronicles 28

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. He did not do what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.	1 Tenía Ajaz veinte años cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó dieciséis años en Jerusalén. No hizo lo recto a los ojos de Yahveh, como David su padre.
2 He followed the example of the kings of Israel, even having images cast for the Baals;	2 Siguió los caminos de los reyes de Israel, llegando a fundir estatuas para los Baales.
3 he burned incense in the Val ey of Ben-Hinnom, caused his sons to pass through the fire of sacrifice,copying the disgusting practices of the nations whom Yahweh had dispossessed for the Israelites.	3 Quemó incienso en el valle de Ben Hinnom e hizo pasar a sus hijos por el fuego, según los ritos abominables de las gentes que Yahveh había arrojado de delante de los israelitas.
4 He offered sacrifices and incense on the high places, on the hil s and under every green tree.	4 Ofrecía sacrificios y quemaba incienso en los altos, sobre los collados y bajo todo árbol frondoso.
5 So Yahweh his God put him at the mercy of the king of Aram, who defeated him and took largenumbers of captives, carrying them off to Damascus. He also put him at the mercy of the king of Israel, whoinflicted heavy casualties on him.	5 Yahveh su Dios le entregó en manos del rey de los arameos, que le derrotaron, haciéndole gran número de prisioneros, que fueron llevados a Damasco. Fue entregado también en manos del rey de Israel, que le causó una gran derrota.
6 In a single day, Pekah son of Remaliah kil ed a hundred and twenty thousand in Judah, al of themprominent men, because they had abandoned Yahweh, God of their ancestors.	6 Pecaj, hijo de Remalías, mató en Judá en un solo día a 120.000, todos ellos hombres valientes; porque habían abandonado a Yahveh, el Dios de sus padres.
7 Zichri, an Ephraimite champion, killed Maaseiah the king's son, Azrikam the control er of thehousehold and Elkanah the king's second-in-command.	7 Zikrí, uno de los valientes de Efraím, mató a Maasías, hijo del rey, a Azricam, mayordomo de palacio, y a Elcaná, segundo después del rey.
8 Of their brothers, the Israelites took two hundred thousand captive including wives, sons, daughters;they also took quantities of booty, carrying everything off to Samaria.	8 Los israelitas se llevaron de entre sus hermanos 200.000 prisioneros: mujeres, hijos e hijas. Se apoderaron también de un enorme botín, que se llevaron a Samaría.
9 Now there was a prophet of Yahweh there by the name of Oded, who went out to meet the troopsreturning to Samaria and said, 'Look, because Yahweh, God of your ancestors, was angry with Judah, he putthem at your mercy, but you have slaughtered them with such fury as reached to heaven,	9 Había allí un profeta de Yahveh, llamado Oded, que salió al encuentro del ejército que volvía a Samaría, y les dijo: «He aquí que Yahveh, el Dios de vuestros padres, irritado contra Judá, los ha entregado en vuestras manos, mas vosotros los habéis matado con un furor que ha subido hasta el cielo.
10 and now you propose to reduce the children of Judah and Jerusalem to being your male and femaleslaves! Have you not yourselves committed sins against Yahweh your God?	10 Y ahora pensáis en someter a los hijos de Judá y de Jerusalén como siervos y siervas vuestros. ¿Es que vosotros mismos no sois culpables contra Yahveh vuestro Dios?
11 Now listen to me: release the captives you have taken from your brothers, for the fierce anger ofYahweh hangs over you.'	11 Oídme, pues, y dejad volver a vuestros hermanos que habéis tomado prisioneros, porque el furor de la ira de Yahveh viene sobre vosotros».
12 Some of the Ephraimite chieftains -- Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechaiah son of Meshil emoth,Jehizkiah son of Shal um and Amasa son of Hadlai -- then protested to those returning from the war	12 Entonces algunos hombres de los jefes de Efraím: Azarías, hijo de Yehojanán; Berekías, hijo de Mesillemot; Ezequías, hijo de Sallum, y Amasá, hijo de Jadlay, se levantaron contra los que venían de la guerra,
13 and said to them, 'You must not bring the captives here, for we have already sinned against Yahwehand you propose to add to our sin and guilt, although our guilt is already great, and fierce anger is hanging overIsrael.'	13 y les dijeron: «No metáis aquí a estos prisioneros. ¿Por qué, además de la culpa contra Yahveh que ya tenemos contra nosotros, habláis de aumentar todavía nuestros pecados y nuestro delito?; pues grande es nuestro delito y el furor de la ira amenaza a Israel».
14 So in the presence of the officials and whole assembly, the soldiers gave up the captives and thebooty.	14 Entonces la tropa dejó a los prisioneros y el botín delante de los jefes y de toda la asamblea.
15 Men nominated for the purpose then took charge of the captives. From the booty they clothed althose of them who were naked; they gave them clothing and sandals, provided them with food and drink,mounted on donkeys al those who were infirm and took them back to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to theirbrothers. Then they returned to Samaria.	15 Levantáronse entonces los hombres nominalmente designados, reanimaron a los prisioneros y vistieron con el botín a todos los que estaban desnudos, dándoles vestido y calzado. Les dieron de comer y de beber y los ungieron; y transportaron en asnos a todos los débiles, los llevaron a Jericó, ciudad de las palmeras, junto a sus hermanos. Luego se volvieron a Samaría.
16 This was when King Ahaz sent asking the king of Assyria to come to his assistance.	16 En aquel tiempo el rey Ajaz envió mensajeros a los reyes de Asiria para que le socorriesen.
17 The Edomites again invaded, defeated Judah, and carried off captives,	17 Porque los de Edom habían venido otra vez y habían derrotado a Judá, llevándose algunos prisioneros.
18 while the Philistines raided the towns in the lowlands and in the Negeb of Judah, capturing Beth-Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco and its dependencies, Timnah and its dependencies and Gimzo and itsdependencies, and settled there.	18 También los filisteos invadieron las ciudades de la Tierra Baja y del Négueb de Judá, y tomaron Bet Semes, Ayyalón, Guederot, Sokó con sus aldeas, Timná con sus aldeas y Guimzó con sus aldeas, y se establecieron allí.
19 For Yahweh brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel, since he behaved without restraint inJudah and had been unfaithful to Yahweh.	19 Porque Yahveh humillaba a Judá a causa de Ajaz, rey de Israel, que permitía el desenfreno de Judá, y se había rebelado contra Yahveh.
20 Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria attacked and besieged him; but he could not overpower him.	20 Vino contra él Teglatfalasar, rey de Asiria; y le puso sitio, pero no le dominó.
21 Although Ahaz robbed the Temple of Yahweh and the palaces of the king and princes and gave theproceeds to the king of Assyria, he received no help from him.	21 Porque Ajaz despojó la Casa de Yahveh y la casa del rey y de los jefes, para dárselo al rey de Asiria, pero de nada le sirvió.
22 During the time when he was under siege he disobeyed Yahweh even more grossly, this King Ahaz.	22 Aun en el tiempo del asedio, el rey Ajaz persistió en su rebeldía contra Yahveh.
23 For he offered sacrifices to the gods of Damascus who had defeated him. 'Since the gods of thekings of Aram', he thought, 'have supported them, I shal sacrifice to them, and perhaps they will help me.' Butthey proved to be his and al Israel's downfal .	23 Ofrecía sacrificios a los dioses de Damasco que le habían derrotado, pues se decía: «Los dioses de los reyes de Aram les ayudan a ellos; les ofreceré sacrificios, y me ayudarán a mí». Ellos fueron la causa de su ruina y de la de todo Israel.
24 Ahaz then collected the equipment of the Temple of God, broke up the equipment of the Temple ofGod, sealed the doors of the Temple of Yahweh and put his own altars in every corner of Jerusalem;	24 Ajaz juntó algunos de los utensilios de la Casa de Dios e hizo añicos otros; cerró las puertas de la Casa de Yahveh y fabricó altares en todas las esquinas de Jerusalén.
25 he set up high places in every town of Judah to burn incense to other gods, thus provoking the angerof Yahweh, God of his ancestors.	25 Erigió altos en cada una de las ciudades de Judá, para quemar incienso a otros dioses, provocando así la ira de Yahveh, el Dios de sus padres.
26 The rest of his history, his whole policy, from first to last, is recorded in the Book of the Kings ofJudah and Israel.	26 El resto de sus hechos y todas sus obras, las primeras y las postreras, está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá e Israel.
27 Then Ahaz fel asleep with his ancestors and was buried in the City, in Jerusalem, though he was nottaken to the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah succeeded him.	27 Se acostó Ajaz con sus padres y lo sepultaron dentro de la Ciudad, en Jerusalén: pues no le colocaron en los sepulcros de los reyes de Israel. En su lugar reinó su hijo Ezequías.
